I've been going to Studio Reform Pilates in Hillcrest for a few weeks now after signing up for their new student 3-class package, and it's quickly become one of my favorite weekend rituals. I've been taking the Form class on Sundays with Monica, and it's been such a great entry point into Reformer Pilates. Monica has a calming presence, is incredibly welcoming, and does a great job teaching at a beginner pace without making it feel slow or watered down. She's also been really helpful in accommodating an injury I'm working through, which makes a big difference. The studio is tucked upstairs in a quiet place in an otherwise busy building, which adds to the calm, personal vibe. It's always clean and peaceful, and I genuinely love Monica's playlists -- they're relaxing, not overpowering, and really support the mood of the class. Even when classes show as full, I've had luck getting in off the waitlist -- definitely worth adding yourself if you're trying to join. Can't wait to explore more classes, especially Flow! read more

This studio is a lifesaver! I feel so much stronger, balanced and confident. Both Jenn and Jen are knowledgeable, warm supportive and push me to my best. I am a Pilates instructor & love taking classes when I travel. I was SO happy to find this rad little studio in Hillcrest recently. It is ALL about the instructor & I want to say Jen is absolutely AMAZING! I have taken classes all over the world & she ROCKS!! Jen has tons of knowledge which she integrates into every class & her training is evident. Make sure you check her out! Sam's Saturday jump class is also an awesome workout with great music selection. My girlfriend kept nagging me to try pilates for a year until I finally gave in. Glad I did because we both started at this studio a few months ago, and it feels amazing. I hadn't exercised for decades and was a bit intimidated, but our teacher Jen (who has years of experience and knowledge) took the time to make sure we felt comfortable, understood each exercise, and took into account any past injuries we had. Unfortunately, Jen couldn't teach evening classes soon after (although she still teaches during the day... highly recommend her classes if that works with your schedule), so we took a few with Paulette, another experienced and wonderful teacher. Her classes were quite a workout and I was surprised how much I could push myself. Soon after, a couple of new evening intro classes were added with Vanessa and (a different) Jen, so we tried them out and after just one class, we were hooked. They are wonderful just like "original" Jen and Paulette. After a couple of months, I feel more energetic, stronger in core muscles, and always looking forward to the next class. It's quite an adrenaline rush. If you're a beginner, take the intro FORM classes to start. Other classes are more advanced and you may be able to handle them, but they vary in intensity and difficulty. Best to contact the teacher for a specific class and ask them about the level of difficulty before you schedule their class. Lastly, all you need are basic exercise clothes and "gripper" socks. read more

I've been in search of a home Pilates studios and was drawn to Studio Reform. The prices are so reasonable for reformer based pilates and the class sizes max out at 8, which allows for really personalized attention. The instructor I had, Lauren, was really good. I really loved her sequence and thought she did a great job leading the class. She wasn't very hands on but made a lot of verbal corrections. A lot of people worry about parking in this area but I've actually never had a problem with it. It is definitely busy and populated but most cars move in and out quickly because they're going to the grocery store so it's pretty easy to grab a spot from someone coming out. The only negative I had about this studio was the actual set up. I love the single row of reformers with mirrors on both sides, but the ceiling is low and the overhead lights shine right onto the reformer. When you take a jumpboard class, the light is shining right into your eyes as you jump and it can be really disorienting. It seems like a small issue but it really impacted my workout and made it difficult. Everything else was great. read more

Awesome pilates studio! First time ever doing pilates with these machines. Lots of different moves and the machine things are utilized differently with lots of add ons like weights, boxes. balls and circle things. Nice sweat trust me some moves will have your legs shaking. Very fun. There are 8 pilates machines which makes it very small and private. Very friendly instructor/owner. It is located in the Hillcrest shopping area where Ralphs is. It is located on the second floor. Very clean very bright. Mirrors on both sides so you can perfect your technique. You will feel sore the next day. Which means its working. read more

I have tried many classes in the past and nothing compares to this place. All of the classes are intimate making for a very comfortable environment to relax, relieve stress, breathe, and stretch. There is no judgement whatsoever and all of the instructors are super welcoming and accommodating. I particularly find myself scheduling most often with Sam as I love her clear instructions and how she caters her classes to fit all different fitness levels. Thank goodness for Studio Reform Pilates because I almost gave up on finding a Pilates gym. After trying about five different studios, I have happily settled on Studio Reform. The instructors are so knowledgeable, friendly, and not pretentious! The latter trait is imperative for introverts and Pilates amateurs like me. The schedule offers various times in the day that are easy to work with. Although I have only done Pilates for several months, even the Pilates 2 class can easily be modified so I feel challenged but not intimidated. The owner, Amy, often teaches on Fridays and I highly recommend her classes. Autumn, Sam, and Betsy are also such tremendous instructors. A 10-pack class costs much less than what other studios command so you can easily justify paying for a fitness class that involves weight-bearing, core, and toning exercises. Parking is always stressful but that comes with the territory in Hillcrest. read more

It was my first time coming to this studio and doing Pilates and all I can say is that it was absolutely horrible. I arrived 10 minutes early hoping that I could be shown the reformer and know some of the terms before class, but the instructor Nicole was late. 5 minutes into class she goes "Is it your first time doing pilates? When I responded, Yes, she goes why didn't you tell me? Maybe if you would've shown up on time I would've been able to do that like I had planned. Throughout the class she would instruct me on what to do but I have never been made to feel so incompetent and stupid in a workout class. I have worked front desk at various workout studios and when it comes to first timers its customary that you make them feel as comfortable and as welcomed as possible. My experience was the complete opposite. Not only do I not recommend this studio or this instructor but I left feeling so defeated and like I never want to try pilates again. You are supposed to leave a workout class feeling good about yourself and empowered, even when its hard and you're just starting to learn, and I couldn't help but sit in my car and cry after class. Finding a good place with good work outs, hours, and price is really hard and can get really expensive! How to lose a new client in less than 30 seconds. Whomever was the "instructor" at 6pm on Wedesday... good job. I stopped in to check out the studio as I was at The Hub and wanted to see if the size of the class and the type of instruction would be what I was looking for. I am not a novice and have been looking for a small, local (read: walkable) Pilates studio. The instructor couldn't push me out of the door fast enough. Information is on the postcard on the door and website? Yeah, methinks not. If "first impressions are everything," then this instructor made a first impression that lost a new client and potential dollars. I hope you, the person who was teaching the class at 6pm on Wednesday, today, is not the owner. I was very interested but, as my 1 star review shows... Eek! Methinks not! I went here on a ClassPass membership and signed up immediately. Not only is the pricing super reasonable for a pilates studio, the quality of the class is top-notch. I have a shoulder injury and Lauren was incredibly patient and helped me modify movements so that I could successfully complete the jumpboard class. I've been to several pilates studios in San Diego and Studio Reform is definitely the best value! Can't wait to go to my next class. :) read more

If I could give this studio 10 stars, I would gladly. This owner of this studio Amy is amazing. She really cares about the students and teaching a challenging class, along with every instructor I've taken there. My schedule aligns with Amy and Jen so that is mostly who I take. I would also consider Jen one of the top tier fitness instructors in San Diego. The teachers are very focused on what they are doing and somehow seem to watch everyone closely. They get to know you and your body and if they see I can't quite do something, they'll give me a modification. Not only are the instructors top notch (and get ready for a true workout), but the studio is spotlessly clean, they start on time, and everyone I ever meet there is friendly. It's a very positive atmosphere while getting a true workout every time. Parking can be hit or miss, so I always try to get there a little early just in case. read more

Being at Studio Reform is my favorite hour of the day. I started with private lessons with Betsy for a year, then jumped into classes daily with Betsy, Autumn, Amy, and Sam. I LOVE this place. They have Balanced Body reformers which are gorgeous and smooth to work with. The instructors are TOP NOTCH. They use transitions which flow well with their thought out workouts (working the body without over working the same muscles). You can tell they are very experienced and have spent a lot of time teaching and learning by the ways they describe how to move your body and exactly what to do. Whenever I make the wrong form they are there to correct me so I protect myself from injury. This has helped me gain strength and it helped train me to be more confident. After being a yogi for 10 years I still could not do dancer for more than 5 seconds, now after pilates at this studio I can hold that pose for over a minute due to the core strength I have gained. I also went from 155 lbs to 120 lbs after 100 group classes at studio reform in 7 months. I finally have the sculpted arms, butt, legs, and abs I've always wanted but could never have. I truly believe its from the series of workouts and right amount of intensity and cool down they create. They also each pick really incredible music to move with which really matters! I love everything about this place from the excellent instructors, clean environment, their adorable glass mrs. meyers spray bottles & towels, retail space, styles of pilates, and the crowd of amazing people that are attracted to this place. They thought of all the small things which speaks to me. Ive made so many friends here that I feel a sense of community when I come in for classes and I go out of my way to come in for the experience they create at Studio Reform. Since moving 8 miles away, I still come all the way back here to take my regular pilates classes. I just cant speak highly enough about them! The parking can be busy in the evening, mid day or weekends, so make sure you come early or park a block away on tenth. I highly recommend starting with Flow 1, Classic flow, and Jump (if you want a hard exercise while you're lying down). When you're ready go to Flow 2 and Circuit. read more

I love this studio! I signed up for a trial first class with Sam and immediately went home and signed up for a membership. I've been to a few studios in San Diego but never felt like they had the right mix of friendly and knowledgeable instructors that made me feel welcome and comfortable during the classes. Studio Reform Pilates is perfect for that! The instructors have great personalities and are so motivating and fun. They're also incredibility skilled and help each person achieve the most out of class. The parking isn't an issue if you know where to look: There's a garage under the Ralphs, plus a plethora of street parking across the walking bridge. I am so happy this studio exists! read more

So happy I found this place! I worked with the owner Amy on setting up a duet session for my first class. Amy was so responsive and helpful throughout the process. After my duet session with Sam I was instantly hooked. I am starting with a class package, but I know as soon as I use all of my classes I am moving right into a membership. My body feels great after each class and I feel as if I need to take a class everyday! I also love how clean and intimate the studio is. With only eight reformers, each session feels like a one on one workout.Thank you to Sam and Autumn who have been sweet, attentive and patient instructors. I love this Pilates studio! The smaller class size (8 reformers) allow for more attention from the instructor. The reformer is nicer than I've experienced at other studios. The instructors are much better also! I've done jump and circuit. Autumn and Sam are great! They both are unique, will kick your butt and are really good with giving instructions and corrections, unlike at other studios I've been to where they just let you go. There is also parking which is nice. All around, a great Pilates studio! read more

Adorable studio; clean, bright, colorful and cozy. Really upbeat, friendly instructor (her name was Lauren, and she has an amazing personality!) Her cues were flowing, precise and encouraging. Personally, I found the exercise difficult with its heavy spring tension and long reps. It is serious ab, glute, and inner thigh burn out. I did take Reformer Flow 2, so perhaps Reformer Flow 1 would have been more appropriate for my first time at this studio. After expressing this in a more lengthy previous review, the owner sent me a n engaging, kind email. She really cares about her studio, clients, and a healthy Pilates experience. At the end of class, a gentleman was raving that it was the best Pilates class he had ever taken. By far the best group pilates studio I have ever been to...and saw the results within a week! The space is super clean and all the equipment is brand new. Amy M & Lauren A are my favorite teachers so far and they always have some new exercises I have never done before. Classes are only 50 minutes, which makes it easier to fit into my daily schedule. I sign up online ahead of time and started w/ the intro special 5 for $50! I would highly recommend this studio to anyone new or old to pilates! read more

I love the reformer 2 class and just tried the jump board class for the first time and I can already feel what it's doing for my body.
