I feel like I'm not always picky, but can be with smoothies. I hate springing for a "healthy" option and winding up getting a sugary sweet beverage. This place is legit--whether you try an obviously healthy sounding option like the Vegan Healthy Smoothie (Apple, celery, kale, almond butter) or more adventurous titles like the Eye of the Tiger (strawberry, raw cacao, almond or peanut butter) or my personal favorite The Amazon (blueberry, baby spinach, peanut butter), you're getting something healthy, delicious and incredibly satisfying for a liquid meal. In short, product is excellent. Really just a takeaway stand but a couple of outside tables if you want to sit and linger. Only occasionally frustrating thing is access--it seems like a 2-3 person team, they are only open 12-6 Wednesday-Sunday, but I have even dropped by on those hours a day it has seemed closed. Guess it's the price you pay for a small and friendly and authentic experience--I'll enjoy their smoothies whenever I can get them!

I mentioned being new to the area and one of them immediately went off on this loud awkward tangent about how NYC is like being in an abusive relationship, which involved several jokes about domestic violence and how stupid women are who return to a partner who abuses them. And, well, I'm a domestic abuse survivor and didn't exactly find it funny. Now, I'm not one of those 'the whole world should be my safe space' people, but I felt that was an incredibly inappropriate conversation to be starting. I go to a yoga studio to feel happy and at peace, not so that some wannabe-special-snowflake can make people uncomfortable. It was incredibly off-putting, and it pretty much guaranteed I wouldn't be back because I don't want to run the risk of encountering those studio groupies again. I feel terrible saying this, but while Grace is amazing and I was really happy with the classes I took, the thought of navigating those people means I will not be back here.

The practices are done on carpet and most people know that carpets and gyms / studios do not match - people sweat on it, walk their bare feet on the ground and then onto the carpet, and studies have shown that carpets attract about 200,000 bacteria per square inch, which is over 2,000 times grosser than your toilet... and carpet carries the most bacterias that are resistant to antibiotics. The studio has mats available for $1 rental if you choose to use but unfortunately mats don't do much especially when it's on top of the carpet. Also the mats are not even wiped down after each use. Instead they are folded back and placed nicely on the benches ready for the next use. Nevertheless, the staffs here are great!! I'm a long time practitioner of kundalini yoga and I feel the practice here are just okay but could be more effective... also not all classes here end with a gong savasana and not all kyrias are completed with a root lock / seal. This studio is located right next to Om Yoga Factor and it has one of the highest male to female ratios.

The studio is small yet spacious for everyone to practice. Always clean and spotless! They have everything in the back storage room; yoga mats, blocks, straps and blankets. You can also leave your yoga mat there or use there mats. Every teacher at this studio is great and they know what they're doing. They also help you out in certain poses and encourage you to push yourself more. I've been doing yoga for 8 years, been to plenty of other yoga studios in the city. This little gem of a studio is my go to place because they help me to push myself beyond my limits. If you're a beginner or advanced, go here! This is the place to learn and to grow!

I had a lovely experience at Ishta Yoga with Stephen! The space is clean, calm, and well-located…read more(do note there are stairs -- unsure if there's an accessible entrance!). I appreciate all the natural light that came in over something more harsh like overhead lights. I tried out their restorative yoga class and had a great time. Stephen's voice and personality is so calming and genuine! He also helped adjust me during an exercise which I appreciated, as it was my first ever restorative yoga session. During the class, he also shared some interesting facts about yoga as a practice and the cultures from which it originated. Unfortunately, I bruised my forehead a bit because the blanket didn't quite cushion my forehead properly against the block unless I moved my head up and squashed my nose, and we remained in that pose for 10+ mins, but that was my only qualm while in the class. After the class, all mats and blocks were wiped down prior to being returned to their place :). One thing I wish I would have known is that there's a mat rental fee ($4 I believe), which I didn't previously know about and felt a bit out of the ordinary in my experience? However, because it was my first time, they offered one to me for free without me having to ask. Very kind customer service! While the yoga room itself is very spacious, the check-in area is itty bitty and I could see it getting cramped during peak hours, but I kinda wanted to get in and out haha! I'd recommend not hanging around too long before or after class to avoid cramping. I recommended a friend try out Ishta Yoga for herself to see how she liked it too. She informed me she tried out an "All Levels" class with Douglas. She mentioned him being supportive, calm, and patient, though she didn't quite know what was going on regarding the terminology. Overall, I'd love to do more restorative yoga here when I can find the time! Note to self: bring your own blanket and mat!

Janaka (steve lorand) is back regularly on the schedule which = a really reliable consistent traditional IYI hatha yoga class; every week, he's leading a 90 minute and also a $10 60 minute class, he's also sub'ing often. Chandra came back for several weeks and as Janaka said, "she instructs a class exquisitely." her classes are a real traditional IYI hatha yoga = thorough class. I hear - but won't believe it until I see it- she may be back on schedule regularly in person in October :-)

There are locker rooms and showers on site. The front desk offers mats, mat towels, face towels, shower towels, and after class chilled lavender towels that are passed around the room. I really love the variety of classes here, including a sculpt class I took, HIIT with weights (like this but less yoga and more cardio bursts), the classic ID, and more. I wish they had more variety in class lengths as sometimes I'm really just feeling a 45 minute, but nonetheless this has become one of my go-to studios in Manhattan. The instructors are really cool here as well!

The studio is on the 3rd floor and has two fitness rooms and locker rooms by gender. Only downside, there are two showers, so there was a wait after class for the shower. I say this more as a heads up than a deterrent. The studio has an intro special going on right now - two weeks of unlimited classes for $95 (mats and towels included) or one intro class for $20. Try it out!
