This place is okay, the lake is nice for a swim or some kayaking/fishing etc. but the campground itself is just okay in my opinion. Also, if you like to shower or use indoor plumbing, look elsewhere. There are no showers here and the vault toilets tend to stink up the surrounding camp sites for quite a distance. i've camped here twice before and neither time was i impressed. Also, the Camp hosts (older couple) had a very rude demeanor. I will not be returning. read more

Worst campsite ever!!! The camp ranger came by and she was having a bad day and decided to be such a bitch and tell us to keep the noise down when it says on the board that when it 10 pm please to keep the noise down. But it was only 8 pm. She had the nerve to say to us that she dont care if we play beer pong and shoot heroin but to keep it down and we wasnt even playing beer pong or doing any of that. She threaten us to call the sheriff on us just because we was laughing at her. What a rude ass bitch manager. I would give this place zero stars but i am for sure never camping here again. They are also strict on us using their water and the bathrooms are so dirty and stinky too. read more

I visited the campground (but didn't camp overnight), just talked to the very nice campground manager. I spent the day at the day use area about a half mile or so from the campground. It was amazing. There was hardly anyone there. I walked around the shore for a while and found an irresistible spot to swim. The water here is clear, clean, and lovely blue. This was the best lake swim I've ever had. Better than Castle Lake near Mt. Shasta. The water isn't super cold. I felt cleaner after that swim than I have after most good hot showers. There are a few mosquitos but they didn't bother me much. There was some evidence of bear foraging near the shore, overturned rocks and dug up holes, but I didn't see any bears or tracks. Fish jump around in the lake. I saw a few fisherman catch three rainbow trout very quickly from shore. There were some fantastic and unusual birds on the water and in the trees. If you love a good open lake swim, or like to fish, or like birdwatching, Stumpy Meadows is awesome. read more

Campgrounds are super spacious surrounded by tall trees providing lots of shade. Best campsites are 14, 15, 16, 17 & 18. We tent camped and had 24 ft trailers all sites spacious. Bathrooms were cleaned often, only downfall is the trail to the lake is very far and quite a hike. It's not an easy trail for super young kids or people with babies and taking stuff down there can be challenging unless you have teenagers or adults in halfway decent shape. Going down not that bad, but coming back up is something else. Brought a boat out there and fishing was terrible. Only caught small baby bass. Other than that, we had a great time! We brought lots of teenagers and got out of there with no complaints! That just means there was enough space for everyone to enjoy them selves and not disturb neighbors. One last thing, the drive way in is VERY narrow so be cautious if you have a trailer. Super tight squeeze but take it slow you'll be ok. Will visit again! read more

The picture with the kid sliding down the waterfall is NOT at this location. It isn't too far way though; If you want to check it out look up University Falls in Quintette. The falls are three slip -n-slides. The water is freezing until late summer and even then it is still cold. It is a hike in location, 2.5 miles total, mostly a easy hike with a couple strips of very steep trail. This spot is popular with locals so the weekends are kinda crowded. read more

We had a group of 10 and stayed at sites 23, 24, and 27. There was a fire pit, picnic table, and a grill at each site. There was also a path to the water directly behind these sites. The trail was pretty easy, except for a small distance near the water, it got pretty steep. Sites 23 and 27 could fit two cars and 24 could fit one. The first car at each site is free and extra cars are $7. There is also overflow parking available. There is zero cell phone service here, which we enjoyed. These sites are very small. We out one tent at site 27 and mainly used that site to hang out and cook at. We fit 3 tents at site 24 and 2 at 27. These tents were all very close together. I noticed that there were some sites that were much bigger than ours. I'd call the ranger station if you want to get better info. on which sites have more space. Some sites could hold 3 cars and were very spacious. There were a TON of mosquitoes. You will need bug spray, citronella candles, and long sleeves to be comfortable. I would also bring calamine lotion, you will need it by the second day. I thought the bathrooms were pretty clean as far as campsites go. The manager on site was very friendly and helpful. We were not expecting the lack of cell phone service and many of our group arrived without knowing which campsite numbers we were at. The manager was very helpful in directing everyone to the right spot. The lake was quiet and beautiful. There isn't much of a beach area, but you could fit a few chairs in a row on the shore. I saw people in kayaks and stand up paddle boards in the water. We floated on tubes and it was very relaxing. Overall, I really enjoyed this campground and would definitely go again, I would just make sure I reserved one of the larger campsites next time. read more

Very dry from the fire. No access to the lake unless you go to the boat launch which you have to drive to from the camp grounds. Lake is only 5mph for boats. So no tubing or anything. No fish in the lake. We fished for over 5 hours and not a single bite at all. Camp sites were mostly in the sun and several were on slopes or small hills. We planned for a 3 day camp trip, only stayed 1 night. We got bit by so many mosquitoes i couldn't take it. Do not go by the pictures on here. They are very old. read more

Let me first preface this review by saying I work with dirt for a living and I've spent two+ weeks on a field course studying soils and digging holes. That being sad, I have never been as dirty or disgusting as I was after 2 days at this campground. There's nothing wrong with the facilities themselves - the picnic tables, fire rings and bathrooms were well stocked and well kept. The campground host circled the loop many times and it seemed as though it was cared for. However, this area was hit pretty hard by the King Fire in the El Dorado forest in 2014. That wildfire burned up a lot of the understory vegetation and made the soils hydrophobic. Water doesn't really infiltrate this soil, it just runs off. That + the middle of the summer for camping means one thing. DUST. There was so much dusty dirt, any time you set down a foot, your feet and bottom legs were covered in a fine silt. It was everywhere. All the time. Some of the sites are much smaller than others, our site (#38) had no flat place for a tent and it was full sun the entire afternoon. We sat under a tree at the edge of the site, basically butting up against the next site. Also a +1 to bring bug spray or citronella. The lake is nice to swim in and be in! We didn't really find any hiking trails around here, except maybe an old logging road. Overall, it has the potential to be nice, but is hard to enjoy when everything is covered in dust. read more

stumpy meadows camping was awesome! the hubby & i went up to celebrate our wedding anniversary and it was gorgeous! no internet or cell phone service so it forced us to slow down, read, hike, fish and swim! our camp site had all of the following and more. the hubby caught a rainbow trout each night to cook in addition to the food we brought and it was a nice yummy treat! we brought our dog who also enjoyed herself jumping and swimming in the lake and also loved the hiking trails. No running water for showers or plumbing for the toilet so be prepared with baby wipes and flashlights for the port-a-john type bathrooms! it was quite a relaxing trip and the camp caretakers were really nice as well; they sold firewood and were very friendly. had to take a trip back into georgetown (13 miles back) for ice and benedryl due to allergies... read more

A group of girlfriends chose this for a girls weekend and it was AMAZING!!! The water was perfect! Our site was shady and well kept. The staff was the best camp hosting I've ever experienced, and I have camped a lot!!! I would recommend this place to anyone! The reservoir is filled with trout for non-engine boats, swimming is perfect, and the bathroom/trash site is always clean. Water was easy to access and drinkable. Great for families or groups of friends. Kid friendly host staff equipped with water guns and belly laughs!!! LOVED IT!!! read more

Just camped there with some friends and our kids. I wouldn't normally write a review about a campground, but I really wish someone had written a review like the one I will write right now so it would have made me look elsewhere. Pros: beautiful campground, great camp hosts with plenty of wood to sell (although $8 a bundle was a bit steep!), gorgeous lake with clean clear water, couldn't ask for more perfect summer weather ( days are warm, but not too warm, and the nights are very comfortable), dog friendly, and for vault toilets they were kept very clean ( of course they smelled horrible, but what can you expect!). Cons: if you bring kids and want to take a quick walk to the lake, forget about it! It is a long steep walk down to the water and there isn't much of a beach, just a steep rocky area in front of the water. We tried to drive to a different spot for the kids,but there is so little real estate around the lake where you can sit, it was just too crowded! I have been camping for 30 years and have been to many campgrounds, but I must say this place is a entomologists dream! I think every insect known to man can be found at this campground! Bring plenty of bug spray and be prepared to wear it from morning to night! My kids got eaten up before we knew it! We unbelievably never saw any birds or ground critters, they must have been scared off by the insects! I don't know who posted the pictures of the beautiful rock water falls but they a NOT at stumpy meadows camp ground (maybe they are somewhere near?) but those photos fooled me into thinking they would be at out campground! So finally, I think we will stick to the campgrounds near Icehouse ( even though I hate the windy road up and down to get there!) at least water access is much closer and if you want to avoid some of the insects just camp at a higher elevation, you trade off cooler night temps for fewer bugs! I hope this review helps any campers looking for a new place to camp! read more

We visited 8/4-8/6. First time here. Site 23, full sun and a lot of loose dirt. Think sand pit, but it's camping... dirt is part of the adventure. Some sites like #11 are small. Be prepared for unpredictable mountain weather. We were met with warm rain throughout the entire weekend. Also, a thunderstorm for a hour in the middle of the night. The trail to the lake is beautiful. Don't let the fire damage prevent you from camping here. The regrowth is already abundant and the campsites are not damaged. You can see damage on one side of the lake. The wildlife was minimal (squirrels, birds, bats, and lizards) but this is bear territory so be prepared. Many thistle and nettle plants, I highly recommend long socks/pants on hikes. Water spigots, dumpsters for trash, fire rings, and vaulted toilets. No electric and limited parking. 1 vehicle included with campsite, $7 a night for an extra vehicle. Camp host will come collect or request on arrival. They're friendly if you're friendly first. Quiet hours 10pm-6am. Fishing is probably ok if your on a boat, we didn't catch anything from the shoreline. The sunsets are gorgeous here. We look forward to returning in the years to come. Love this place lots of off road trails so u can bring ur quads or off road vehicles. Not alot of campgrounds so you never need to worry about overcrowding. No showers though. People r nice and the lake is clean. Uncle toms cabin is nearby and has cold beer for sale. Its a nice historic place that has been around and family owned for years. read more

We drove up to check out the campground. It has clearly been affected by the fires. The campsites seemed very close together and a lot of dirt. I was not impressed. We cancelled our reservations for our trip in August. read more

The campground is in a secluded area and the lake is gorgeous. Do not believe the photos! There are a lot of trees gone due to the fire and the sites have not updated the photos. We had very little shade but the photo of 18 showed an enormous amount of shade. Also, they do not clean their bathrooms at all. It was horrible. They should be cleaning on a daily basis. It was worse than I've ever seen. The ones at the lake were nice but the campsites are disgusting. read more
