It's seems more and more rare these days that a company performs as advertised. This is even more true when the saying "you get what you pay for" sometimes means the lowest bidder means the lowest level of service. I can honestly say that Stumpy's is the first service we've used for our home where not only was the pricing more than reasonable (we felt we got way more than we paid for), but they outperformed what they advertised to us. The process was transparent, honest, timely, and professional. What's more, not only did they complete what we asked them to do, they left the work site in a better condition than what it was before. For example, we had them remove a tree that was in the center of our patio. After having done so, they not only swept the entire patio, they even placed our outdoor furniture back in place which was entirely not expected. (They also swept it far better than we ever have). I needed 7 trees removed, including one fan palm next to my house. Not only was Stumpy's the lowest bidder of three, the job they did was excellent. I would highly recommend them. Update: I used Stumpy's to grind two tree stumps near my driveway. Afterwards, I noticed they didn't remove all of a buried root on one of the stumps. Glenn examined it and said they would remove it without charge, since it should have been removed along with the stump. Also, I asked him for an estimate to remove a surface root in another part of my yard. When he examined it, he noticed it was located near the position where one of the trees they removed sat and its end had removal debris next to it . He concluded the surface root belonged to that tree and should have been removed when the tree was removed. He then offered to remove it without cost. This is extraordinarly excellent service. He is super-responsive, professional, friendly, well-mannered----a real pleasure to deal with. I received a very reasonable estimate for the removal of two large trees (a Canadian PIne and an Orange) and the taming of two huge Mulberries. Everyone on the block, and my remodeling contractor, noted how hard Glenn and his crew worked, and how well they cleaned up following the job. He called on the same evening the work was completed to ensure it was done to my satisfaction. I only wish I had more work for him to do. I had two trees removes, shrubs removed, and 8 trees trimmed. ( not easy to get to some of them and quite tall). Glenn at Stumpy's did some more work for us by trimming and thinning out some fruitless pear trees. They were all cut very nice and shaped really well. It wasn't until this February/March that the trees now show a lot of life though and we can truly appreciate Stumpy's work. The trees are full of really nice little white flowers that they didn't have before Stumpy's trimmed and thinned them out. Our yard looks so good right now. I'm having him trim and thin the lemon tree in my front yard in a couple weeks, and will continue to use him as work becomes available. We bought our house in the spring and had a GODZILLA SIZE tree in our backyard. By the late summer, we had a number of branches spontaneously fall, no biggie right? Until one really large branch with other smallerer branches full of leaves came crashing down. Luckily it didn't hurt anyone or any neighboring properties. Due to safety concerns, we were able to get approval from the city to remove the tree, since it was considered a heritage tree. We had gotten quotes from a friend's referral and from someone who randomly stopped by (not licensed, no bueno) and I found Stumpy's on Yelp. Normally I put heavy weight on people's referrals. Not this time. Glenn responded to my inquiry promptly, scheduled a visit to see the tree and came as scheduled. Love him already. He took a look at the tree and gave us a quote on the spot. His quote was competitive, falling right where I had budgeted. I really liked how friendly and professional he was. I generally had a good feeling about him. I decided to give him my business, considering my positive experience so far and all teh positive feedback from Yelp he had received. His availability was getting limited and I wanted to secure his services as soon as possible, considering all the rainy weather to come. Last thing I wanted was another piece of that tree coming down on our house or hitting our neighbors. A couple of weeks later, him and his crew came ready to work and arrived earlier than what he said. Keep in mind, we were expecting a HUGE rainstorm that day, and he said that unless there were high winds, they were committed to get the job done. WOW! Probably due to the crazy rain storm that day, their stump grinder quit on them. He said that he would return to finish the job and he did 2 days later. I didn't mind as I was simply impressed that the whole tree was gone and they had worked in such horrible weather conditions that day. Despite all of that, they left the backyard IMPECCABLE! I don't think either one of us knew how big the stump grinding would be, it took him almost an entire work day! This tree was definitely determined to stay. Though the stump grinding was done, he said that he would come back a third time (the next day), to clean up. REALLY? I thought the area was already clean compared to how it looked before! If you could imagine a tree with over a 13' circumference of a trunk that dumped all its leaves daily on my backyard and being supplied only one garbage receptacle for yard waste... Let me put it to you this way. We hadn't seen our backyard lawn without leaves since Summer, it was completely covered! We only managed to clear the patio, and the following day, it looked as if we hadn't done a thing! Stumpy's not only cleaned up the worksite where the tree had been removed, but they took ALL THE LEAVES from my entire backyard!!! My husband and I had the biggest smiles on our faces. I can't thank Glenn and his team enough for the hard work they put into our tree removal. I don't think he realized how much it meant to us to have such a fabulous crew do such great work. I have had the best experience when working with Glenn at Stumpy's Tree Service start to finish. He started off by really trying to understand what we needed. He mentioned that the trees were hanging over the sidewalk very low and also they were getting very close to the building. They offer quality service from the estimate process to scheduling, to completing the work, and even the payment process. Glenn and Ed are always thorough when evaluating the work to be done and providing estimates. Everything is conveniently emailed to me and with a few clicks the proposal is accepted and scheduled. Catherine is always available by phone if I have questions and they send a follow up email when the job is completed to ensure satisfaction. I do not view these emails as spam or annoying, but as an example of good personal customer service. We contracted with Stumpy's Tree Service in Livermore for removal of 7 stumps in our back and side yards. Glenn came by and bid on the work (--a very reasonable bid, I might add), and I then scheduled it to be done about 2 1/2 weeks later. Chad and Glenn arrived at the appointed time with all the necessary equipment. Chad did the work on the project, while Glenn went on to other work sites. I was very impressed with the way Chad took great care not to damage plants or nearby fence. in addition to removing and grinding down the stumps, at several of the sites he also extracted nearby (associated) volunteer shoots that had spread from the underground root system. He consulted with me several times during the course of the job, ensuring that i knew what he was encountering and what would be required for him to remove the stumps. He also took me on a walk-through when the work was done to explain exactly what he had done. The cleanup job was stellar. Holes were filled in and recovered with mulch. If you didn't know there had been stumps that had been removed, you'd never know that Stumpy's had been here. All the branches and green waste were removed, and the yard looks great! I'm very relieved to have this work completed (in only about 3 1/2 hours from start to finish), and in such a competent, professional, and courteous manner. I will gladly hire them again if I need to have other tree work in the future, and I certainly recommend them to others. read more

10 Stars please!!! I needed to have an Adler tree removed from my backyard as well as a small tree next to it, have both stumps ground down, and have all the debris removed. After looking at Yelp and some other places, I decided to have 4 shops come out for an estimate. By far, Stumpy's was the most professional of them all. Admitted, I was nervous as I was expecting over $1K. Glenn came out to give me a quote. He was extremely polite and knowledgeable. He made sure his equipment would fit through our small gate without causing damage to the gate or the gas meter. He told me exactly how the job would be done. I received the quote. It was slightly higher than the cheapest quote I received but I felt confident that the work we be done right. They were hired within the hour and scheduled to come out the following week. During the week prior to the appointment, I called Glenn and told him I would like to get some additional stump grinding on a root that extended off the tree I wanted removed. I did not think this was included and it was a necessity to remove since it was pushing up on my pavers. I wanted to make sure they allotted the time for it and was aware. He told me not to worry they would get it done. Not only did Glenn and the team show up on time, they were a bit early and waited until closer to our appointment time to come to the door (they made sure we were ready for them). Glenn made sure everything of mine was out of the way before starting. This team cleared out my patio (sorry, I would have done it if I knew it would get in the way) and made sure everything would be safe. I showed Glenn the additional root I wanted removed. He said no additional charge as it was traditional to remove all surface roots as part of the job (maybe for Stumpy's it was because other places said it would be a lot extra!) By the time Glenn and I talked about the job, the team of 7 people were ready to get to work. The tree was down in no time! The stump grinding took some time but I don't know if that was usual or just because I had difficult stumps. Glenn told me the stump would be ground down to about a foot below the surface. These guys took it down over two feet which was great since I am putting fruit trees in its place. In any case, these guys hauled A$$ and did an IMPRESSIVE job. They not only cleaned the street where the chipper was at, they cleaned my neighbors yard and blew all the debris from the walk way. And they did not just blew it into the side, they scooped it all up and took it away. My house looked ten times cleaner than it did before they arrived. Glenn and Stumpy's will be the first place I turn to for any of my tree needs. Glen from Stumpy's came out to look at our tree in April, 2010. It was a large evergreen too close to our property line. Our neighbor wasn't happy with the amount of sunlight he was missing because of this tree. Glen gave us two options: taking it out or trimming branches, with prices for both. Obtained several quotes for removal and stump grinding of a chinese tallow tree. The tree roots had broken my waterline twice in 23 years so it was time for the tree to go! Stumpy's pricing was very fair. The work crew was on time and performed the job safely and professionally. Grinding the stump was delicate work as my gas, electric and cable lines were also nearby. The crew paused several times to remove the grinding debris so that they could clearly see the remaining stump and roots before performing the final grinding. Excellent job! I always thought my evergreen tree was a Blue Spruce. Glenn immediately identified it as a Blue Atlas Cedar. I love my tree but it had become very large. Great value, service, and expertise! Just used them again to trim trees in front of our house. We had moved and had two trees which hadn't been trimmed in years. Glenn and his team were fabulous. They raised the canopies and thinned them. I was very nervous after they left because the trees looked barren but when the leaves came in they had a beautiful leaf pattern and just the right amount of shade - as promised! We hired Stumpy's to do an enormous project for us: the total removal and stump grinding of an 80-90 foot ash tree that was too close to our house and was causing extensive damage. They also trimmed two other ash trees that were just as large in the back of the house. Everything, from the initial contact through to completion was outstanding. I was very nervous about the project given the size of the tree and how close it was, not just to our house but also our neighbor's. I needn't have worried. Wow! He is a great Arborist, I get lots of compliments on a big Magnolia he worked on. Great attention to detail, when he climbed the Magnolia he climbed it so I wouldn't ever see the spike marks!
