Good coffee and good pastries. However, the chicken samosa I had tasted like used gym socks.

    Haggis Farm Bakery

Having been a fair few places and to a fair few bakeries... I can now honestly say that no where is…read morebetter than little Haggis Farm Bakery on Saturna Island! I will be the first to admit that Saturna is not a great place for the casual visitor. It does not have any public camp grounds and it is one of the smaller Gulf Islands with few places to go that aren't forest, park, or striking sand-stone cliffs. That being said, give it a try! The locals are friendly and the holiday home owners are lovely people (in my unbiased opinion). The island itself offers a lot as well, not the least of which is this bakery and the amazing things it pumps out. How do I describe the thrill of being able to walk into a bakery, pick out what you want, drop some money by the door and head on out. The reason why this experience is so novel is that there is rarely anyone else in the building. The bakery is attached to a farm and so I presume the owner is out working all day and doesn't really have time to deal with drop in customers. You can also get a lot of things at the general store and can even find the baker there many days. Now... what to buy. Where do I start... for me the nettle pasta tastes like home and is a rare local treat that I can never turn away, the chocolate chip cookies are legendary and my brother and I can crush a bag of them in under 2 hours, the spelt cookies are a perfect chewy treat, and the Butter and Mince Tarts are the perfect end to Christmas lunch (or any other meal for that matter). No matter what you get I promise you this, from that point on out, you will get cravings for it that nothing else will satisfy. I dream of Saturna chocolate chip cookies! So my advice to you: hop on a ferry, get to Saturna, find your way to the bakery and get something to go... before I eat it all!

Great find in the cute little burg of Sidney. Fairly extensive selection of handmade pastries,…read morecookies and savory sandwiches. They even sell dog biscuits that are baked in-house. Everything looked tempting so we purchased a lot: a fig tapenade Brie sandwich (wonderful flavours, a little heavy on the bread and light on the cheese); a mango danish (delicate, crisp pastry strewn with baked mango chunks); a vegetarian pizza (cheesy and flavourful); and my favourite, an oatmeal fudge bar (like the one Starbucks used to sell, but with higher-quality ingredients and most importantly, more chocolate!). We also got a salad as a nod to nutrition, which was fresh, contained a surprising amount of bocconcini and came with a tasty vinaigrette - a little overpriced for the portion tho. Service was friendly and prompt. No seating inside, but there are a few benches outside where one can enjoy the treats if the weather's fine--and it was. 4.5

The Fickle Fig Express is a cute little bakery serving up some fabulous pastries, along with friendly service with a smile. Located on the central high street core of Sidney, make this bakery one not to miss. I was lucky they had anything left, getting here at 3pm. Cause you know how it is when it comes to bakeries - the early bird gets the worm. The Cinnamon Bun was very good & the Chocolate Almond Brownie - sensational.
