If you like the cliff notes, the jump to the end of the review...A+, don't hesitate to book them! As an avid review reader myself, please allow me to elaborate. I am a woodworker, and started the task of finishing my basement. The company was among the first few I called to discuss my needs. Owner Hugh was on time for our appointment, and spent over an hour with me discussing my renovation. We negotiated special circumstances such as vents for my wood shop, a future man cave storage areas. In the beginning of my journey, I was sold on the idea of a mini split unit. But after...a second site visit a few weeks later to yet again discuss my needs, Hugh presented us with a very fair scope of work. As we live in an HOA, we needed to get board approval to do the work. We needed to hire an electrician to install the drops. And I had some rearranging to do for the workers. Not once did I get a high pressure sales call. I didn't feel put on the spot. And he did professionally follow up on two occasions to check in with us...as any good business owner should. After we completed the prep work and gained approvals, the crew showed up EXACTLY on time, and walked the job with me. We ensured we were all aligned. I was so happy with the crew that I bought their lunch. The job carried over to day two. Again on time, and professional. When the job was complete, we walked it again. The crew cleaned up after the selves. Nice touch! Not everyone does. So there you have it. A bit verbose? Sure. However, with a significant investment like this, it's important to be comfortable with your tradesman. Company is no longer family owned. It was sold to two guys who have another company in Chicago…read more Guys lied to the old owner about being family oriented and customer forward. They are price gouging like crazy. Jacked prices up to 3x or more than they were with Hugh. They do not care that the locals have been loyal to Cheshire for so many years. They're changing everything from trying to turn service techs in to robots to somehow trying to create Cheshire as a brand. They try to cut corners and order cheaper parts to make more profit. Only for the parts to be wrong and it take even longer to do a repair. And then the best part is if an employee has an opinion about the way they're making changes, they're fired. Tommy is no longer a tech here. Jeremy is gone. Matt quit. I'm sure Sam is next. These guys are also operating on paper as Cheshire home services because they do not have proper certifications and licensures to operate a HVAC company. Pretty sure they're trying to create their own supply house where they will sell their own units and have people to service them. Do not trust these new owners. They're nothing but liars and they will rip you off. Parts that cost maybe $100 l- you're gonna be charged over 5 times that cost. For example- the customer who had a system still under warranty. But the new owner, Josh, decided he wanted to push a new system on this guy. Like. The unit is still under FACTORY warranty. Not even into the extended warranty yet. He's a SCAM. They're gonna run the Cheshire name into the dirt because of the scam they are running in Jasper

I called them up today to have my heating system repaired and they were very helpful over the phone. Jeremy called me up right away and after I explained to him the problem, he knew exactly what to do. He told me to replace the filter and to reset the heating system. If I ever have any problems with my air conditioning or heating unit again I will definitely call them up and have them repair it. "Got no heat or air? Don't delay, call up JF Maxwell now!"

The technician came promptly and assessed the situation. He said that the refrigerant was low, which is what I suspected. He told me that it required R22, which is obsolete and very expensive. I asked if there was an alternative that would work and was assured that there wasn't. We were on our fifth day without air conditioning so I agreed to pay $1,125.00 for three pounds of R22 to be added. Afterwards I checked with two reputable HVAC companies and was informed that there is an alternative to R22 that could be used which is much less expensive. Also, I found R22 online from several sources for less than $50.00 per pound. I feel taken advantage of and will use someone else in the future.

I decided on a second opinion and called Denson (who originally installed the unit). The tech popped the panel and said the pressure, etc. looked fine! He went downstairs to the electric panel and found the probable culprit right away. He suggested I call an electrician and if there were still issues, to give Denson a call back. The house call was priced reasonably for the awesome troubleshooting he had to do. An electrician was called, arrived, and fixed the issue in an hour!
