I recently hired Air Duct Kings to clean our dryer vent after seeing their good reviews on Yelp. While the experience wasn't terrible, I wouldn't rate it 5 stars. Juan, the technician, was polite, but the overall service felt a bit amateur. When clearing the dryer line, they used a leaf blower, which sent tons of dust and debris flying all over our backyard and into the neighbor's area. Maybe this a common practice for everyone but blows my mind that you want all that dust and debris flying everywhere. A simple solution, like attaching a large bag or a containment system, could have prevented this mess. Additionally, after finishing, they used a shop vac and while he did his best to get most of it. Some debris was tracked back into the house from shoes and even opening the inside of the shop vac inside, spreading more dust into the air. After everything was done I had to do a deep clean of the floors and back patio. The vent is cleared and cleaned but I thought a few things could have been done a tad better. I was also quoted $1,100 to clean eight vents, which seemed high. When I hesitated and said I think it's too high. He immediately dropped the price to around $800, which felt still overpriced. Before the new machines get delivered and installed tomorrow I wanted to get the dryer vent cleaned, if possible. (It's now or never since the old w&d are already disconnected and the dryer vent is easy to access in the empty laundry closet with the old appliances out of the way.) I called Dryer Duct Kings in the morning and spoke with Adi. He said he did have availability for that day and explained that once a technician arrives he'll be able to assess the job and give me a price estimate. Estimates are free. I asked for ballpark pricing and he said the minimum job is $150.00 and takes about 45-minutes. When it didn't I was stumped. Those dryer vents on the outside must belong to other units, not ours. Benjamin quickly assessed the situation, and, being that we're an end-unit condo he said he'll check inside the attic to see what he finds. He asked to borrow our 8-foot ladder in the garage and carefully carried it upstairs. He took his time looking around the attic and even took photos of our duct work to show us. He came back down (covered in insulation) and said that our dryer vent ends somewhere on the roof. Even though he can't go on the roof he said he can still scrub then blow the vent from inside the laundry closet for $150.00. I agreed and within 20-minutes or so the work was done. Even though our clothes dry just fine, and our condo is only 12 (or so) years old and we don't have any kids, AND we always clean the dryer filter after each load of laundry, still a significant amount of debris came out of our dryer duct. We called Air Duct Kings after we were scammed and overcharged by another company (let's call them company F because they get a failing grade). Company F claimed to have properly cleaned out our dryer vents and tubing in the attic , but we were getting a new error code that our flow sensing was blocked by 90%. Buyer beware - These are the facts: I was quoted $129 for dryer vent cleaning over the phone and $199 for air duct cleaning for up to 10 vents - the equivalent of 3 hours of labor. Also claimed that they used a "negative air pressure" system for the most thorough cleaning possible. He also tried to sell me on carpet/upholstery cleaning (they have an associated business called "Carpet Kings") and quoted me $25/dining chair and $150 for our sectional. Salvador comes to our home (walks through the front door without ringing the door bell or knocking first) and says that the dryer vent is $250 now because he claims that the dryer vent is 25 feet long (not true) and is "twice the work" (also not true). Also says that each return vent is now $199 and that each individual vent is $35 per vent. I go ahead with the service for the dryer vent and return air ducts since at this point, I have taken a day off from work to do so. The work is just okay - they had to take the return air grille off the ceilings to attach their negative air pressure system to the HVAC ducts and the reattachment of the grilles was mediocre with a messy recaulking of the grille which makes me wish that we never did the air duct cleaning. There was no "negative air pressure" cleaning of the dryer vent - just a standard brush on a drill just like other dryer vent cleaning companies we have used previously. When I ask him about the upholstery cleaning he quotes me $810 for the sectional! Clearly, they did not want to do the upholstery cleaning or were just looking to get more money out of us. This is a dishonest bait and switch operation and I would look elsewhere for dryer/air duct/carpet cleaning. We certainly will NOT be using them again. UPDATE: The owner called me after this review and instead of being apologetic or trying to listen, he started talking over me about how this review is ruining his day when he is celebrating someone's birthday, how committed he is to customer service, and how long he has been working with this particular technician. He probably talked for about 24 out of 26 minutes on this phone call despite claiming that he "wants to hear your side" - not sure how that was going to happen when he rarely gave me a chance to talk and continued to cut me off mid-sentence. With regard to the upholstery quote, instead of an actual apology, his response was "It's a mistake. It happens. What do you want me to do? I take full responsibility." While I appreciate his offer to come take a look himself and to measure the dryer vent and look at the grilles, I did not appreciate his tone and it was clear that another meeting was not going to be productive. read more
