Lo and behold, a HD store was discovered! The store is located downtown on Main Street. It's not a big store, and it deals only in HD apparel and accessories type merchandise. Figuring this would probably be my first, and last visit here, I looked for a HD T-Shirt that symbolized the Deadwood spirit to take home as a souvenir / reminder of my trip. They had a lot of choices to pick from and it came down to two choices. I finally chose the one based on the Wild West theme (because Deadwood, right?, ha!). The employee who waited on me was friendly, efficient, and courteous. She stated she was exhausted from all the hours and nonstop sales. Nonetheless she laughed and had a good attitude about it. In preparing for our only chance at a rally in 2015 (the Menage a Trois) I had a service…read moreappointment scheduled at BMW of Utah in Sandy a couple days prior to the rally. Part of that service was to include new tires. As the riding season rolled on I realized we probably wouldn't have enough tire left to make it to SLC. With that in mind I called Sturgis Motorsports (our nearest US BMW shop) a couple weeks in advance and set up an appointment for first thing in the morning on a Tuesday. My thinking was if someone was going to destroy the TPM sensors, might as well be a place that stood a reasonable chance of having them in stock. At 0330 that morning, with both fuel tanks topped off, I turned south for Sturgis. Six hours later (yah, the nearest dealer was a six hour ride away) I was waiting at their front door for them to open (because of the time difference I got there a half hour early)... That's when the fun started. "I'm here for my 0900 appointment for new tires." "We don't do appointments. I don't know who told you that you had an appointment. It's first come, first served." Fortunately I was first come... "We will get started right away." "Where is the customer lounge and coffee pot?" "I think there are some chairs upstairs, the nearest coffee shop is a quarter-mile down the road that direction..." "Please tell them to put 38 psi in the front and 40 psi in the rear." "We don't do that. They are going to put in whatever the sidewall says to use for maximum pressure. You'll get whatever you get." TWO AND A HALF HOURS later, they finally get done and hand me a bill for $575 which included $50 for *each* tire for just the swap... I haven't ever paid that much for a swap even when I carried the wheels and outsourced tires into a random shop. Let alone when I was paying a premium price for "discounted" tires from the place that was doing to swap. Yah... he told me I received a "discount" on the tire price. Turns out their 'discount' was 20% *over* MSRP. Yah... I'll set fire to the bike and walk away before I even let them put maximum pressure air in my tires again.

It was late Friday afternoon in Deadwood and my car would not start. I opened the hood to check…read morethe battery connections. The connections were secure but I discovered that in addition to the electric fault the water pump was leaking. I called South Side Service and explained my predicament. Pat told me that if I could get the car to him he would look at it. I was able to push start the car and drive to his shop. Pat called around to locate a water pump and starter without success. There were no parts available. Not even in Rapid City. We drove the car up onto the hoist and Pat agreed to look at it Saturday. Pat called me Saturday morning and stated that he got the starter working by striking with a hammer to free the brushes. Not a permanent 'fix', but it started the car. Bravo! He was able to stop the water pump leak with a bottle of radiator stop leak. Another temporary 'fix' but good enough for me to try returning to Minneapolis. I stopped at the Chevy dealer in Rapid City to inquire about parts availability. The dealer also stated that there were no parts in the entire region. I continued on to Minneapolis without any problem. The point of this review is to commend Pat of South Side Service for doing what he could on a Saturday. Thank you, Pat. Lee
