Update: So any business person who calls a potential customer a "hater" and immediately attacks their integrity should be avoided at all costs! I rarely write reviews unless compelled to do so to warn others about things to look out for or if I get excellent service that goes above and beyond (some people don't live on the internet!) This review is one person's opinion and personal experience only....nothing more, nothing less. FACT: I went to yelp for assistance in finding a company to move my table and Stu's (listed near Arena Bl. in Sacramento) was one of the closest businesses with good reviews that I could find. When I received the astronomical quote, I looked again and found Ken's which is listed in Orangeville which gives me my approximation on drive time. If Stu did not want to provide service for us in El Dorado Co., he could have just said so and not give an unreasonable quote while being unfriendly about it. There's obviously other people out there that want the work and are nice about it. (See original post below for the rest). Today I called Stu's to move a pool table from my garage to the inside of my house (approximately 50 feet and level ground) The representative at Stu's not only acted as though he was being "put out", he quoted me $800.00!!!! I was more than a little surprised, so I made another call to Ken's Pool Table Service. Ken bent over backwards to work around my schedule, offered next day service and quoted me $350. Mind you, Ken's is about 15 minutes closer to my home but does that justify a $450 surcharge?? Stu is fantastic! Our pool table is on the 2nd floor in the loft space. We recently had our floors redone so it had been moved to the garage for storage by another company, prior to the installation of the floors. I did have an appointment with that company to move it back upstairs that I had to reschedule due to a miscalculation on my part as far as the completion of the floors. We were set to have them come out on Saturday morning and at 5:30 the night before, they called to tell me that they would not be able to make it because they didn't have enough guys to do the job. They couldn't get to it until a week or 2 later. I told them I would find someone else. I turned to yelp Friday night at 9:00pm and found Stu. I sent him a message and in less than an hour he responded and put us in his schedule for that Sunday afternoon. He and 1 guy showed up, moved it back upstairs, installed and assembled it perfectly. The other company said they needed 3 (?). Stu even shined it up...it looked gorgeous against the new floors and I couldn't be happier. So thrilled to have found Stu! We already had a disassembled pool table delivered to our house and Stu came to put it together.. Nice guy, did a great job but needed to come back to finish. We paid a deposit and new felt before he came out and then we paid for a pool cover, table feet and the remaining amount when he came out first time. What a cool guy Stu is. I had known him for 5 minutes and was happy to have him in my home doing the setup for my new table (which he had to dismantle and move from 30+ miles away). Professional and unrushed service, he made sure everything was perfect before he left (level, placement, felt, etc). I even tacked on a re-felting last minute and he was happy to do it for a discounted price (the table was already taken apart by that point). As he was leaving he mentioned that he had another job lined up - so that means he'd added at least an hour to my job re-felting and didn't even think to complain that I'd pushed his whole day into chaos. I booked an appointment with pool table taxi who was charging me way more than stu and the cancelled my appointment 20 min before they were supposed to be at the location they also charged me a $75 deposit so I wouldn't flake and then they did they are a joke! I originally used Stu's competitor on two separate occasions but this time around their price was really, really too high so I started to look for other quotes. I ran across Stu here on yelp and saw all of the great reviews, yet, like many, I was still a bit skeptical. Let me tell you now, the reviews are genuine and Stu's service deserves every 5 STAR review you'll read about. I'm not sure what went wrong with some of the less favorable reviews but speaking from my own experience, Stu lived up to the expectation. The first aspect of his service I appreciated was the window of arrival, Stu gave me a reasonable 2 hour window that he would arrive, this makes sense as I figure in his line of work there is no telling how smoothly his previous customer might go so it gives him some wiggle room in the time to arrive and keeps me from thinking my pool mover is running late. Stu arrived right during the window he promised and promptly got to work on moving my table. I had an in house move, which I thought would be quick and easy. It might have been easy for Stu, but it wasn't quick, and I'll tell you why. The level of detail and care Stu puts into the move, he doesn't rush through it and just slap it back together. He even identified short comings and damage the previous movers did (and hid, unfortunately) on my table from the last move. That wasn't all, he went a step further and either repaired or adapted my table to compensate for what the previous movers did. Stu is definitely proud of what he does and I can tell he enjoys educating his customers on the assembly, care, use, and play of their tables. I also lucked out as Stu just happened to have a new, black, felt that would fit my table from a previous customer that ordered the wrong length, he charged me a very reasonable price to add/stretch this new felt which has the table looking and playing better than it has in years. I also had concerns about the size of my room which I discussed with Stu, he even left me a shorter stick to experiment with (which worked great, thanks Stu). He left my table looking fantastic, beautifully polished and the play my family had on it later in the night after he left was wonderful. I'd recommend Stu to anyone looking for pool moving, re-felting, maintenance or anything associated with Pool tables. I'd also encourage you to ask him how he got into this work, you'll learn that Stu is a genuine guy, good to deal with, and takes care of his customers. Stu is great. I bought a pool table from Craigslist and needed a temp storage for a couple of months before my home is ready for it. Stu kindly offered the moving and the storage service. On the day of moving, Stu dismantled the table professionally and efficiently. Unfortunately when I am ready to move the table out of the storage, Stu told me that my table was stolen along with many of his stuffs at home. He promised to find me a table I like, and he is willing to setup a temporary table at my home, which is 100 miles away. I ended up getting a table which seems to be in better shape than the one I bought. On the day of delivery, I wasn't home and Stu squeezed his schedule and managed to arrive my home at 8PM . They ended up spending 4-5 hours setting up the table, refelting, and make sure everything is good. When I finally saw the table, I was totally blown away. It's much nicer than I expected it to be.
