Came in for the first time today for a cut. My old hairdresser charged less ($30 as compared to $45), but since I no longer work up the street from that hairdresser, she wasn't in such a convenient location, so I tried Style My Mop, which is up the street from my home. Gina greeted me when I walked in. I asked if Style My Mop does walk-ins, and she said absolutely, she could take me right then. I told Gina what I was looking for (a style completely different from anything I had before, I went from a medium-length one-length cut to a shorter layered cut)...she gave me suggestions, was very professional, and very friendly and engaging without being overly chatty the way some hairdressers are. When she was finished, I had the exact look I was hoping for, my hair looks great, and I've been getting compliments on it all day long. Finally took the time to check out Style My Mop after purchasing a Groupon for a "Cut, Style & Deep Conditioning treatment." Kristen worked with me - she is wonderful. Very patient, friendly and "in the know" with hair care. I never seem to be able to describe how I want my hair done, as I get it cut only twice a year and cannot for the life of me, every re-create the look after the first day - so I don't like to go to crazy. Hair is not my forte. Explaining this to Kristen, she busted out a variety of recent photos of styles on current celebrities she has collected in an album on her iPad - to help put a vision to my lack of description of what I wanted. Once we had the length and bangs settled - she made sure she created a look that I would be able to easily manage on my own. SO if you're like me & want a hair cut, but stink at doing your own hair & need help finding a managable look - ask Kristen. As I had VERY long hair - Kristen asked if I would be interested in donating my hair to a company similar to Locks for Love. I ended up donating & she took care of shipping it off. I came here to get a quick, last minute fix on a horrible haircut I had received. I didn't want to be there so I wasn't happy about it because I wasn't suppose to have gotten a terrible haircut at another establishment and I wasn't suppose to be getting a fix to it! This is my second time here now, and I have zero desire to go back to my old stylist. I'm finally going somewhere affordable and my hair has not suffered. If anything, I like it better! I have Kristen do my hair and she really takes the time to understand what you want your hair to look like. She has great product suggestions. She is working with my boyfriend on hair regrowth and he has seen amazing results in just 3 weeks. I wasn't going to write a review because my stylist was SO absolutely sweet and adorable, but after processing the "after" of my experience I wanted to - perhaps vent? I purchased a full foil, cut, and blow dry for 82 - huge savings - from Groupon (Damn you, groupon!). I was in dire need of getting a foil and definitely needed to get a cut so I figured I'd give this place a try because you can't beat that price. The place itself is nice, quiet, and wasn't crowded the time I was there. My stylist was very sweet and eager and knew a lot about product and took the time to talk through what I wanted. Unfortunately, the foils that took a painstakingly long time to put in didn't even look like I'd spent the time to get them done! As I watched what looked like only 3 strands of hair in each foil while clumps of hair remained out I started to panic, but still hoped for the best. Sadly for me, I still have a decent amount of root just about everywhere and it definitely doesn't seem like a full foil. I have been getting foiled for over a decade and have never seen such little hair actually foiled. The cut was fine, but again just seemed drawn out. For me, I feel like I spent $82 and over 2 1/2 hours in a non-busy salon for just a haircut since I'll have to get my foil done again in probably less than 4 weeks when I can usually stretch to at least 6 and push to 8. Not likely this time. My husband even commented and asked why I decided not to get my hair colored when I got home that evening. I would have been livid if I paid full price (typically 125 for foil and 45 for cut). So on the bright side, my hair isn't falling out nor do I have a hack job of haircut so the experience wasn't awful, I just wouldn't return again. read more

Anytime I have a special occasion (or I'm just feeling lazy!) I have Kristen wash and dry my hair. I really hate doing my own hair, it takes forever and it never comes out good. I am so glad I found this place because it's a short walk from my house and Kristen really knows how to style hair however I want it, which is different every time I go. Not to mention she's really friendly and fun to talk to! The salon itself is really clean and cozy. I feel very comfortable walking in here which is not always the case with hair salons! I found a groupon for Style My Mop and thought that I'd give it a try. I spent $82.00 -got a cut and foil. Looking at my hair, it looks the same as when I went in. The color is dull and my roots are still showing. I am so unhappy with the way my hair looks. I really would like to get my money back and go elsewhere. read more

this was awhile ago but I made an appt. for makeup done and hair for school dance I arrived on my time. There was only two ladies working the one with short hair was doing another girl that was supposed to be doing me. I just asked for basic curls and my hair is easy to get a curl but it was barely curled. My makeup I got home and I was orange I could see it worse at home because of the lighting. My mom end up buying a curling iron curled my hair and I wiped off all my makeup did it on my own. The curls and makeup was like $180! I did go back and got my eyebrows down by the other lady I assume she owns it and I loved that and the place is beautiful overall. read more

I tried Style My Mop because I saw a Groupon and I am so glad that I did. I have been to the fancy salons with the celeb hairdressers and paid over $200 for just a haricut and tried cost cutters where I paid $14 for a haircut. I moved to the Boston area 10 years ago and couldn't find anyone I liked enough to go back twice, until now. Kristen did an amazing job cutting my hair. I have curly hair but like to wear it straight as well. I was her last appointment for the day and she was so patient with me. I brought in a picture and she gave me her opinion. Usually you tell the hairdresser you want to go short and they just cut it all off. Instead Kristen took her time and gradually went shorter till I was okay with the length. Cutting curly hair is very tricky and to make it look good when it's curly as well as straight is even harder to do. She got it right! I paid only $25 with the Groupon but gave her a $10 tip, but I would and will easily pay the $45. For a fabulous haircut, it's worth it! I have gotten a lot of compliments on my hair and I love it. After 10 years and spending $1000's of dollars, I have finally found a salon I can make my regular now. Thanks Kristen and Style My Mop! read more
