As an aging woman with dowdy moments, I had high hopes for some style, a makeover. The 20+ year owner of Styled Seattle, Darcy, and her talented consultant Maggie are good people who do their darndest to make things work. In my case, I must not have portrayed well what I wanted, and they did not pull the correct things. The three hour fashion show of new clothes they pulled for my new look was all wrong. That said, Darcy bent over backwards to adjust their fee and was fully apologetic and workable in recognizing this was a miss. We all wonder when we pay $450 for a service if it will be worthwhile. I worked with Maggie for an Ultimate Makeover and I had a fantastic experience. She impressed me at every stage. First, in our Zoom consult she quickly understood the gaps in my wardrobe and the aesthetic that I wanted. Second, nearly every garment she bought for me fit well, giving me a huge selection of items to choose from. Third, I appreciated the range of styles she brought. Many were just what I'd asked for, and some pushed my comfort zone a bit. Fourth, she shopped at many stores and avoided that "store mannequin" look. Fifth, she found several beautiful, quality pieces that were on sale, so my final clothing tab was well under our planned budget. Sixth, she was very efficient with the in-home closet audit. We cleared out items that I wasn't wearing or didn't match my syle, and I have new appreciation for the items that I kept. I was so pleased with Styled Seattle and working directly with Darcy. I usually spend hours of my life wandering through stores trying on carts full of clothes where only a few things fit and those are the things I purchase. I never really loved them. This habit accumulated over time to an entire wardrobe that was just meh. Coming out of the pandemic and striving for the next step in my professional career, I invested in the Ultimate Makeover Package! BEST CHOICE EVER! Darcy truly took time to understand my style vision and make it come to life. Also - never have I ever had pants fit on the first try. I mean... miracle worker! She took feedback so well - there were items where I communicated around how I liked the idea of them but certain parts of the fit were off. You know, I wonder if I could take your picture because my husband would love to dress like you!" These are just a few of the comments I've had coming my way ever since I started working with Darcy at Styled Seattle. Let me elaborate... I'm a professional man, late 40s -- great friends, great career, feeling confident and secure and full of gratitude. However, I'd let the comforts of life get to me and stacked on more weight than I was happy with, and as far as my professional wardrobe goes -- well, the best way I can describe how I was dressing each day was... "Uhm... yeah... fine. Just fine" (said with a sort-of-scrunched-up face -- not downtrodden, not enthusiastic.) Let me put it this way, sometimes my shirts looked a bit like pajama tops, and the khaki trousers/polo top combo could land me a job easy at Best Buy or Target. She pulled together great outfits and worked with me to find something that feels put together, finished, refined, age-appropriate, and makes me feel like a million bucks. We talked through the whole experience -- collaborating and looking closely at various ensembles to find clothes that fit, make me feel confident and stylish, but don't look as if I'm totally coming into an entirely new script for myself. Elevated. Classy. Not radical, but certainly transformative. Darcy's extensive experience (which very much includes male clients like myself) is undeniably valuable. I'm not trying to recapture my 20s -- but I'm not trying to look like I've given up. Darcy gave me ideas, thoughts, and perspectives throughout our time together. Getting ready for work this week has been a whole new experience thanks to Ally and Styled Seattle! I am a new mom and switched jobs while on maternity leave to a position that required a more professional wardrobe. This made getting ready in the mornings difficult and often brought me to tears with a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear. My first style session was a little off, the sizing and style was not quite right but no fault to Styled Seattle or Ally. I really didn't give them much to go on. Ally recognized this immediately and suggested we push pause, chat some more to find out what I really needed and set up a second session. After about 30 more minutes and several questions from Ally and showing her pictures of things I felt comfortable in and liked. We scheduled the second session in Tacoma which is so much closer for me being from Olympia within a week on Sunday! Talk about customer service and accommodating! I found working with Styled Seattle ok, but not something I would recommend or do again. Although someone came to my house and looked at my clothes, I don't feel like I learned much through the process. I was hoping to learn more about the types of clothes I should buy, how to wear certain items (like scarves, for example), and new ideas for style. I'd say this service was more like someone just did the shopping and I decided whether or not I liked the item. To be sure, having someone shop for you is worth something, but it wasn't really what I was looking for. Also, this service was presented to me as a shopping service that would pull together items from all over the city, but really they just shopped at Nordstrom (great for the return policy, but again, not what I was initially told). I wouldn't recommend; you could just use Nordstrom's personal shopping service, and save the money. read more

I was nervous going into this, but I had tons of random clothes that I didn't even wear. I was stuck rotating the same few safe (boring) work outfits and weekend jeans & band tees. I felt like I used to be pretty hip in college, but lost my way at some point in the adulting process. I had also moved from working for myself to going to an office everyday, and was struggling to look like a creative leader. I had to admit that I needed help, and help wasn't only for "other people." I am so glad I enlisted Darcy! Her suggestion was a more expensive plan than I had originally been aiming for, but the logic made sense and I wanted a big change! Shortly after working with Darcy, I got a big promotion at work. I won't say the polished wardrobe is the reason, but I will say it definitely didn't hurt. Being able to confidently walk into the CEO's office any day of the week is empowering. Plus, I got compliments for a month straight! Darcy was efficient, perceptive, and diplomatic. My house is modest and my bedroom closets are in a rough basement. Some of my clothes were 15+ years old. My cat even chose her visit to take the stinkiest poop ever. This is EXACTLY what I was looking for! After years of clothing rental (great, but I neglected updating the basics in my own closet) and then a hefty dose of pandemic (ahem, didn't we all live in joggers?) my closet was sorely in need of a mega refresh! I felt overwhelmed by the prospect of culling many year's worth of accumulation without a clear sense of my own style and needs. Enter, Darcy! I chose the full package - because it was all so relevant and timely! I found the initial closet review/audit and style discussion (via Zoom) to be illuminating and fun. Then Darcy spent time curating a full wardrobe for me, based on what she had learned, and we met in person for the BEST afternoon style session. I can't describe how much fun we had. I rode a fashion high for days afterwards. Darcy is fun, approachable, and so knowledgeable. She really understood what I was looking for, sometimes more than I did! She also helped incorporate several pieces from my closet that I loved, but didn't have a good idea of how to utilize, and helped build entire outfits for me to wear, and then recreate! We met up several weeks later to purge the old/tired items from my closet and incorporate the new. By this point, with Darcy's impeccable guidance, I felt like I had such clarity about what I was ready to let go of. (And it is doubly awesome that she has a separate nonprofit entity that helps to give old/retired clothes a new life!) I now have a closet that I am excited to pull from each and every day. I feel like my personal style is reimagined, and it's still me, but better. I recommend this to anyone who is looking both to reinvigorate their personal style, is open to new possibilities, and secretly loves fashion, yet would benefit from a professional to help guide them along the way (who does this not apply to?!), and is ready to take the plunge. Let me save you $475+: Don't use Styled Seattle; Nordstrom personal shoppers are free, including free tailoring, and you can return items you decide you don't like without hassle. My shopper at SS sourced 80+% of the clothes she pulled for me from Nordstrom, so it was pointless to pay a fee for her services on top of that type of laziness when I can get the service for free at Nordie's. Sherri made a lot of promises to me during my intake meeting that she did not deliver on; I felt defrauded by the end of my experience with her. When I told her so via email immediately afterward, she used bait and switch tactics to rationalize everything, rather than trying to make good on her promises to leave me as a satisfied customer. Again, I would have ultimately decided to use Nordstrom's free personal shoppers had I had all the factual information at my disposal, instead of a bunch of false promises. That said, Sherri is a sweet person. I want to give her the benefit of the doubt. However, I can only rely on the reality of what happened and the quality of her work and communication skills, which in my opinion, were not stellar and do not warrant a 4 or 5 star review. Ultimately, this service was expensive both in money and time for me, and was not worth it. I never felt like a valued client she truly wanted to forge a relationship with-- and because of that, I won't be referring her to my extensive network of professional women. If you are larger than a size 16, don't even consider SS -- Sherri does NOT know how to clothe a larger woman. I look ridiculous in 90% of my purchases (I returned nearly everything, but even the things I kept I have barely worn in the months since purchasing them because they are not flattering on my figure). The one positive is she introduced me to a brand of jeans that I do love and had never heard of...but the Nordie's shopper probably would have, too, since they carry that line there! What would have made it worth it is if: 1. ...the clothes pulled for me included more diversity of stores and had not included Nordstrom (unless I had specifically requested it). How she thought an unemployed graduate student who is applying for jobs could afford to buy 80% of her wardrobe from Nordstrom at FULL PRICE is beyond me! I purchased the "BUDGET Fashionista" package for God's sake!!! 2. ...if she had listened to me when I said I needed her help purchasing clothes in my (plus) size for job interviews in the business management consulting field. She only pulled one dress and two blazers (one of which didn't fit), among the 30 or so items she pulled for me. In short, I did not end up with what I solicited her expertise and help with, because she didn't listen during the consultation; in fact, she did 90% of the talking and then shooed me out so she could get back to work! 3. ...if alterations, both errand-wise and cost-wise, were included in the style package price. Otherwise, seriously, just go to Nordstrom and use their personal shoppers, or if you can't afford clothes there, get some free (personalized) fashion tips from the personal shoppers at Nordstrom and then find the store that has pant inseams in your size and shop the sale racks there! Even if you need alterations, I doubt they will total $475+! 4. ...if the fee structure was explicitly clear. The style package you select only includes the things listed on the sheet. She did not take my measurements, or deal with alterations, like she said she would in the consultation. On top of the style session, there is a 6% fee to cover the extras which isn't listed on their price list. Also, I noticed the prices went up quite a bit since I used their service...The "Budget" Fashionista package requires a minimum of $1300 to spend! Crazy! read more

I am NOT exaggerating when I say that Darcy changed my life. She was incredibly professional, non-judgmental and knowledgeable about fashion. I had gained weight and all my clothes were threadbare, tight and - I hate to admit it - frumpy. When I called Darcy a couple of weeks ago, I told her that I was returning to the work force after having been on medical leave for four months and dreamed of recreating a new life with a new look, something more polished and professional. I'd had a closet full of clothes that either didn't fit or didn't go with other pieces and I was looking to incorporate those items to stretch my wardrobe. With a time frame of only a week and a half, we hit the ground running. Darcy emailed me a questionnaire to get my style profile and I met with her shortly afterwards for an initial consultation. She listened intently and asked the right questions. Afterwards there was a more thorough questionnaire regarding my current style and vision, sizing, and what I'd hoped to accomplish with this service. I met Darcy at a private boutique with the clothes, accessories, and bags, she'd chosen for me. There was a dressing room and three-way mirror so I could see the outfits from different angles. At first glance, I wasn't sure if I liked some of the pieces but as the outfits came together everything suddenly clicked. Like magic. I've always loved to shop but didn't know how to accessorize. I've used Styled Seattle 3 times now, twice for seasonal wardrobe help and once for a special occasion. Each time I used them they provided me with options I never would have come up with on my own. I am a bit of a special case, I'm over 6' tall and have trouble finding clothes at stores because of it, but they were able to find many options for me to try, and in the end, purchase. Each time I came in under what I had budgeted unlike when I have used commissioned stylists where they always push for me to spend to my budget or more. So, when my boyfriend proposed this Christmas I was super excited until I started thinking about having an ACTUAL WEDDING. I'm a tomboy through and through, with no style savvy or fashion sense, and to top it off I've never even worn a dress (unless infant baptism robes count, in which case that last bit was a lie). Add to that the fact that I'm a plus-size gal with a mild case of body dysmorphia who absolutely loathes clothes shopping, and what should have been a fun and celebratory planning process quickly spiraled into ALL. I didn't want to totally wash away my unique qualities and just get sausage-stuffed into any old dress that kinda fits, and she assured me that she could totally find something suitable for me. She even gave me a connection to help with my hair and makeup needs for the big day, and that was appreciated. Let's cut to the chase. I had my first try-on session recently and beforehand I was a bit of a trainwreck. While I had faith in Sherri as a styling professional, my basic lack of vision left me feeling like there were no options that might work for me, and my skepticism kept me up the night before. I'm so happy to report that Sherri TOTALLY CAME THROUGH with many completely awesome options right off the bat. And she had EVERYTHING: dresses, shoes, undergarments, jewelry/accessories. Ladies, I totally got THAT MOMENT. You know, when you try on something and your eyes light up and you just know you're in the ABSOLUTE RIGHT OUTFIT??? Well, Sherri made that happen for me. I've worked with Darcy on and off over the years and have always been impressed with her keen eye, However, it my my most recent experience that motivated me to write this review. BEST STYLIST EVER! Working with Sherri at Styled Seattle was the best decision I've made in probably the last decade. Before I called Styled, I had a closet full of clothes that most people would say are "fine." But I wanted to look better than fine! I tried shopping on my own, but what usually happened was that I wasted a whole day (and $$$) at the mall buying three or four things--and I felt worse than before I went. I went in for a first consult thinking I would just do the Styling Session, but I "upgraded" to a bigger package and I'm so glad I did. Sherri came to my house before we went shopping. I was worried she would throw everything away or be critical, but she actually made me feel better about what I owned. We set aside some things she wanted me to bring to my styling and she even put together an outfit for me to wear to work the next day (and I got more compliments than I ever had before, and I hadn't even gone shopping yet!). The Styling was great. I went to a private area filled with clothes and accessories, Sherri had gone to at least four or five stores (some of them were at a totally different mall than we were at, it clearly took a lot of time). If I'm being honest, I didn't love the first few outfits I tried...I had a moment of panic when I was worried it wasn't going to work for me. But Sherri talked me thru it. The more we talked, the more comfortable I felt. Soon, it started clicking and I started loving everything. She taught me how to accessorize, she helped me find the right shoes (which had been a problem for me always). At the end, I had tried on so many outfits, I started to forget them all! Sherri helped me put together everything I wanted to buy. I spent a little more than I was planning, but I was happy about it and I didn't feel pressured, it was my own choice. I had a few alterations to do on some Nordstrom items that would have cost me about $100, and Sherri covered that expense with her company's Nordstrom card. A few days later she came back to my house and took photos of all my new outfits, it was like falling in love with my wardrobe all over again. We purged my closet and she donated items to Goodwill for me, except for a few things we set aside to take to consignment and she gave me a recommendation (pro tip: don't try to sell fall items in the summer and always pack things nicely in a garment bag so they seem more valuable!). Anyway, I am very thrilled. It's been about 5 weeks since I worked with her and I still get excited every day when I get dressed, there are still outfits I haven't worn yet. I have so many! I thankfully found Jenna through Styled Seattle when I decided that I needed assistance giving away clothes from my closet. Jenna arrived on time and actually made getting rid of clothes fun and easy! Thanks to her help I was able to donate about 10 bags of clothes/shoes/handbags in just a couple of hours. Jenna has great style and so I really trusted her when she thought an item was not cute or did not look good on me. After the session I felt so much lighter and could actually see what I had in my closet. Jenna helped form some cute basic outfits for me from my remaining clothes in addition to help plan specific outfits for a trip. She taught me many basics that have made putting together outfits a lot quicker and more enjoyable. A couple of months following my closet overhaul I scheduled a session with Jenna at Nordstrom to supplement my closet at home. After only meeting me once not only did Jenna remember what I had in my closet but also nailed my style and challenged me with some items she pulled. I do not love to shop or try on clothes but had a blast with Jenna with no stress. After 14 years without a real closet clean out I was in need of a serious purge. Also, having 4 kids in 7 years I need to keep things simple. My husband gifted me a complete package from Styled Seattle after our 4th child and Jenna was amazing. My clothes were in 3 different closets in the house and I still had stuff from high school. She helped me purge everything down to the bare bones and then identify what I really needed to replace and some fun new pieces I could get. We met up after the closet clean out at their downtown location and she had pulled clothes from all over with really reasonable priced stuff and I got to try on everything in a comfortable, well lit dressing area. I went with Darcy for a style session because I felt clueless about what to wear. No I wasn't wearing mom jeans, but I just didn't feel that good about what I had on most days. After about 4 hours and 5 stores, I love my new wardrobe! The whole experience was fun too. I tried mostly clothes I wouldn't have tried on my own in stores I wouldn't have thought to go to (who knew J. Crew wasn't all preppy? I didn't!) and found several wonderful things at each one. Now I feel like I can at least figure out the accessories part, which used to be completely over my head. Today I even went out in one of my new outfits and picked out a belt in an opposite color (see, I learned something!) to wear with it. She figured out exactly what I like very quickly -- and after a quick look through my sparse closet, she went to work. My clothing try-on session was so fun -- mostly because everything fit -- I don't know how she did it! I had tons of great options to choose from and I ended up with a great new wardrobe -- love all of it -- and have never had so many compliments from so many people about how great I look.
