Booked at appointment at 9:30 AM. Confirmed 3 times via text with the stylist. I was running late for my app and texted her. When I got there the stylist said I didn't confirm again via call. Why would I need to confirm again? I texted her letting her know that I was running late. I have no issue that she took on another client the problem is she first said that I didn't confirm when I have it in writing I confirmed 3x the date and time of my appointment. If you were confused why didn't you reach out? I'm trying to support BOBs in my neighborhood but consistently customer service tends to be an issue. I tried to explain my position and I was just told now I'm arguing and starting issues. If she just said we started someone else cause you were late that would be disappointing but understandable. I have no words. My dreads were breaking 3 years ago from a previous "loctician" who obviously didn't know what she was doing. Lisa was very professional, definitely knew what she was talking about, made me feel comfortable offered a few hair oil choices to help strengthen my hair which was breaking every time it grew longer and from since then her saloon has been my home. I left disappointed after coming in a couple months ago. There are a few reasons why. I waited 5 hours in the salon before my hair was touched and I didn't like the highlight job I paid $135 for. This amount seemed like a lot to me, since it was only about 10 strands. I had to figure out how to dye it all black myself a couple weeks later because it was SO not what I asked for, in terms of color or anything. If you go, I recommend you try to get a price estimate before if you can...(I asked on the phone and as I waited but was quoted at something like "price starts at $85"). I came with a color scheme in mind for the dye, along with some photos. The scheme contained 2 colors. But I was told that it couldn't be done. My current hair color was already too similar. So we did just a few strands with a quick bleach. Again, I sat waiting for 5 hours... I just need to reiterate that this added to why this was such a bad experience for me. I called in the day before. Sundays (the day I came in) are unpredictable, but still. I don't ever like to put down people who work hard and manage their own business, however, this is time and money I won't get back! I'm a student and I was hella broke at the time, and I left feeling sorta duped, really tired, and overall displeased with the highlights and experience. I had messed my dreads up bleaching too much back to back and was desperate to find someone to save me. She saved me and then some! The entire vibe of her shop is amazing. I feel like I made new friends just being there for the day. She is thorough and will tell you what actually needs to be and can be done. She's also just a lovely soul. Very welcoming and kind. I just started my Loc journey in January so I'm still relatively new but I'm glad I started with Lisa. She's good a building relationships which is crucial to finding a new hairstylist. She's always available by text for questions and scheduling appointments and her prices are good. I spent less than 5 minutes in this establishment and had the worst experience I have ever had in any hair salon or any business period. NO professionalism. NO manners. NO nothing. I took a 30 minute bus ride followed by a 15 minutes walk to this salon. When I arrived and entered the door everyone in the salon just stared at me. Now, I didn't expect the room to stop and for every patron to greet me however there was no receptionist to ask me what I needed, if I had an appointment - nothing. None of the hairstylists stopped to asked if I needed help. Not even the owner of the salon (and I recognized her from pictures) attempted to assist me. She and her client both looked up at me and stared. I waited for her to say hello, ask me how could she help me.. you know.. do things owners of their own businesses should do but she and her client both looked at me with a "What the fuck are you doing here" face. As if I had interrupted a private party. So I introduced myself and told her that I was interested in loc extensions and she said she couldn't give me any information because my hair was in braids. I asked if she could maybe give me some sort of estimate based on the length and size of the locs I was interested in getting and she replied with a rude and curt "No." I was astonished and livid. You mean to tell me you can't give me a mere estimate. No information on the process? You can't even say hello when I walk in the door? This is YOUR business. It is YOUR name on the sign above your store window. Don't know how this woman retains business with that customer service. Idk... maybe she just didn't like me. Where do I start? Lisa is such an amazing person and loctician. She is such a knowledgeable person and really passionate about the health of your hair. I went in the consultation as I had my locs interlock and they were improperly done and she told me all I need to know about how to maintain my locs and repaired the damage that I had in my roots from improper interlocking technique and what needed to be done. She showed me during my consultation how it would be corrected as well as what products she uses in my hair. She is such a pleasure to know and definitely so professional, she is such a blessing. They are both good people and experienced stylists--locticians. She sees clients via appointments and walk-ins. Although, walk-ins may include a wait. I read the reviews of others not to mention I saw a picture of Ava Duvernay who received services from this salon, so I decided to give it a try here. I have experienced poor services with stylists whose sole focus is on the money aspect and not the quality of services. I believe this salon is very good with palm rolling techniques and styling. I was satisfied when I walked out of the salon that day. However, interlocking is over priced for the service I received. I washed my hair a week later and it completely unraveled. It was not done to my expectation nor properly. I have been interlocking my hair for 5 years. This is the first and only time that it unraveled after washing it. When hair is interlocked properly you can wash it the same day or a week later. Mrs. Mulzac was very kind and cordial, but the procedure for weekend services are not efficient or considerate to customers. I will not patronize the salon again, but I believe if you are accustomed to palm rolling. This may be a salon that meets your needs. So very happy I decided to try styles by Lisa. Highly recommended by Yelpers & various other social media sites. Second time interlocking( different than the regular palm roll, I 've done for 16 years) Let me say I am not easily impressed but the interlock I sat in her chair & the interlock I left with....miles apart. I am extremely happy with styles by Lisa. I got so many compliments the next day. Now I am happy I choose to interlock my locs I instead of continuing with palm rolling. Lisa gave me advice on my dry hair & when to return to her. So very happy, can't say that enough!!! I had been looking for a new loctician for a very long time....for me it was hard living in the Bronx. I didn't want to take that long ride to bklyn like I did when I first started my locs but here we go again. It was worth it!!! The shop is small in my opinion but it works well. I'm very happy I came to Lisa today. I was overcharged by another loctitian to start my locs an to maintain them. I wasn't satisfied with the way my locs were coming along so I decided to look around for another loctitian. A fellow yelper highly recommended I try Lisa and I wasn't disappointed at all. Lisa is very friendly and experienced. There's even a barber in her shop so I was able to get a shape up after my locs dried. The prices are more than fair and her service is awesome.
