When in New York I do impulsive things lol. I needed a trim on my natural 4a/3c hair but when I called I said "I'd like to go brown" lol. I was just thinking about it, I wasn't going to do it...right??? Wrong. Walked in at 9:59, walked out at 1:15. Brown. Curls intact. Fabulous trim. And my hair did NOT feel like straw. The location is great if you have a car. If not, it's about a 10 minute walk off the Q from Dekalb. Overall, the neighborhood is nice and quiet, but parking is bad everywhere. Myrtle has parking only one one side of the street so that's a bit rough. Come early if you're driving. The color was a lot brassy for me at the roots and I had to ask for a root shadow to bring them down. I'm grey so pretty sure that's what it was, but don't be afraid to ask them to fix it if it isn't what you want. The ladies were LOVELY. And TBH, I have so missed an old school hair salon experience. I have a salon in DC but not for color. I can't be the only one sick of salon suites smh. There are some power issues in the area, but despite technical difficulties the ladies were attentive and friendly. Healthy hair is my jam, so I encourage anyone looking for a transformation to try them out. Loved it!!! This was a glorious experience and if you're looking for a local spot where they will CARE for your hair, this is it. My hair has never felt so good after color. 10/10 for that alone. read more

I've been going to this salon for a couple months now, and normally I only go for natural styling, or washing sets and cornrows for under my wigs. I wanted to try an actual style. I'm only used to ms.carol handling my hair mainly. This time I went, ms.carol was too busy to do My hair, so her employee took me instead. As soon as she touched my hair , I wasn't really interested in sitting in the chair or getting my hair done once I felt how rough she handled my hair. ms,carol is just more gentle. I'm not tender headed I just felt like my hair was being pulled out more than combed. The washing set was crazy too, I get ear infections easily, I can't just let soap get in my ear, so I warn her once . And have to keep reminding her to block my ears so the soap doesn't get in... ms.carol blocks the soap so I never have that problem till now. As for the styling , okay so boom, It LOOKED so decent the day she finished putting my locks in, but there should be no reason I'm 2 days in and I already lost around 6 locks in the middle of the street. So either she didn't make sure My locks were properly secured , or she was just doing stuff to my head without making sure my hair was good. I went through my hair and I feel how some of the locks hair is ripped, it's like some of locks are barely in my head. Overall not gonna stop going . I was very hopeful coming to this salon. Hoping to find someone who could take care of my hair since my stylist moved to LA... I visited the salon twice and for the most part satisfied with how my hair turned out. I came to the salon on two different occasions with my mother...the first time I did a full head sew in. It turned out really nice.... The problem was the price... Now I am not rich, nor am I cheap. I just wanted to find out and budged the cost of my hair. Don't get me wrong. I am not the annoying cheap client that no stylist wants to do... I simply ask what is the price so I when I book my appointment I can bring the right amount of money. Fair enough right? Well when I asked Donna how much it would be she gave me one price...I was there in person, she was able to see and touch my hair. Next thing you know when I was finished with the service I was given a completely different price! I was never told this or that is going to be extra... she pretty much did whatever and up charged me without telling me. She did the same thing to my mother as well. This happened to me and my mother both times when we came to the salon. The first time we both shrugged it off and paid the price without bringing up the up charge...because again we are not cheap! The second time we came to the salon, we said well this is the price she quoted lets see what happens. Well again, we were told one price, then next thing you know we are paying another price. I work in a hair salon as well but we do not specialize in my type of hair, otherwise I would just get my hair done at the salon I work at.... But we don't just add on services without informing the client of the price increase. I have a budget that I want to stick with... I am late writing this review because I know how much reputation matters... but I am still extremely bothered and want to let others now. read more

I am a really hard sell when it comes to my beauty routines. I came here for a relaxer; I get them about 2x a year. Carol was great; I was the only one in the salon during my appointment time and after asking me about my hair history and what I preferred, she started on the relaxer. I'm not sure what brand she uses, but my hair came out great. I don't like my hair bone straight; just straight enough to manage the curl and it turned out extremely well. I got a rollerset after the relaxer because I didn't want to subject my hair to all the heat that would come from a blow dryer and flat iron. Overall, impressed and great job. Oh, she also gave me a trim and she didn't cut off all my hair so kudos to her. I would give the place 5 stars if I had been able to use my YELP deal. I guess she gave me some other discount where the price didn't amount to what the YELP deal was offering (it would have without any discounts) so now I have $115 just sitting there waiting to be used, meaning that I have to go back to this salon at some point to avoid losing $100+. I couldn't of had a more lovely salon experience. Really. No joke. Based on a recommendation from a friend, I made an appointment at Just Because to chop my hair off. I have super curly, natural hair and NEVER go to salons out of fear of overzealous stylists and the fact that many do not know how to handle natural hair very well or at all. So to say that I was a bit nervous, is a total understatement. However, Carol and the familiar vibe of the salon put me at ease. I showed are a picture of the cut I had in mind and did the classic "I want that," to which she made some minor adjustments to due to the texture and fragile state of my hair... a really good sign of a woman who knows what she is doing. And she really does. I left the salon with a dopeass cut and my hair felt so healthy and fresh. That was a month ago and I am STILL loving it. I decided to try this salon on a whim based on my own research and information on their website. I am glad that I trusted my instinct. I have received nothing but compliments since I've stepped out of their shop! I have natural hair and went in to have my color refreshed and made lighter. My hair was cared for like a baby; well pampered. The scalp massage was excellent and lasted so long I wondered if any color was left in my hair. When I finally caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror I was in awe. I couldn't quite describe the lighter color I wanted but Carol did a great job creating a blended look. Carol was gentle, not pushy (we both knew I needed a trim; but she didn't force it) and well informed. I've been going to Just Because Hair Salon for a few years. The services have been the same; AMAZING! I go to get my natural hair wash, treated, and sometimes trimmed. They do wonders to my hair while handling it with a tender touch. The staff is very friendly and courteous and greets you with a welcoming spirit. Had a Color Service by Carol.... ... I showed her pictures of the color I was going for... She asked questions to better understand what I wanted... The Results: Walking out of the salon I hated it... ( My First Dramatic Color and my first Twist Out) but after a few days, I was New and Fabolous... I get alotta compliments on my Color I even purchased a St. Charles Leave In Conditioner, $24, a lil expensive but.... I like it... I just wished she informed me of the products she used on my hair for the color... I did let her know I was newly natural from relaxers and needed to know what products I should use. So the damage was as bad as I thought. I had to cut about two inches off of the top half of my hair and about an inch off the back. I had been growing out my hair over the summer, but it's back to the same length it was in the spring. The heat damage from the excessive blow drying fried my ends to a crisp. I am really sad and disappointed, but learned a valuable lesson. Never try a different stylist!!! i went to this salon based on a yelp review and i'm so sorry i did :( i have been natural long before the trend (1996 to be exact) i HAD a pretty sizable afro before visiting this place. i wanted a small taper on the sides and back to give my fro some shaping, mind you, i NEVER go to salons, EVER because i've always been pretty good at DIY styling/maintaining. i decided to go here to treat myself to PROFESSIONAL styling. BIG MISTAKE! this place adverts as a natural hair salon, however the owner wears weaves/wigs and all the clients that came in on the day of my appointment had relaxed or processed hair. sign #1 to leave. i expressed to the stylist that i prefer only natural plant based products to be used in my hair because i'm a strict vegan and the owner insisted i drink animal stock as my body needed the protein. sign #2 to leave. i showed the stylist a pic of the style i was looking to achieve and she said, no problem. she washed and dried my hair. then she combed the tangled knots out so rough and aggressively that i thought i'd cry. sign #3 to leave the stylist then got scissor happy and chopped off 3/4 of my big fro!!! i looked to see the majority of my hair on the ground. my hair wasn't shaped, wasn't cut in the style i asked for, was lopsided and WAAY TOO SHORT!!! i left the salon feeling fugly and cheated and mad at myself for ignoring all the warning signs and not trusting my gut. i paid $126 to have someone make me look a hot mess. guess i'll be wrapping my hair up all summer. i will have to wait 6 months to get my length back. i will never let ANYONE TOUCH MY HAIR AGAIN!!! once bitten, twice so shy read more

I was a bit nervous, as I usually am trying a new place, but received a good deal on Groupon for shampoo and box braids and wanted to give it a try. I booked my appointment and arrived a few minutes early. There were a few people already in the salon. A few minutes after arriving I asked for an approximate wait time. The person I spoke to did not like this, claiming that I made the client she was attending feel rushed. I just asked a simple question. When it was my turn just a few minutes later, I let her know I would be forging the shampoo, I just wanted the braids. I had already washed my hair myself. She then claimed that it was the salon policy and she does not know the products I use. It is my hair, I need to worry about the products, not her. I decided it would not work out since they were insisting on washing my hair. She then said they would not be able to help me because I was causing problems. She was unprofessional and rude. I had my hair trimmed by Nahomie last Saturday and it was fantastic! This is honestly the best trim I've ever had. My hair falls perfectly and when I looked on the floor after she was done, I can't even see where she trimmed but my hair looks great. A true professional. In addition, I only came to this salon about a month ago and after 1 visit I saw a difference in my hair. Equally, when Nahomie was off, the owner did my hair and same great results. I am not writing this review because I have known carol for about 24 years from Strategy Salon on Vanderbilt, but because of how knowledgeable she is about all types of hair, hair situations and what to do with it! You don't have to waste your time waiting, as she is very punctual on her appointments and the girl who washes your hair is fantastic, she puts me to sleep every time with the massage and the scalp scrubbing.
