After explaining the stylist cut one side of my bangs and put 2ish foils in my hair at this point I asked to use the restroom because I felt unwell all of a sudden. I was only in there for about 5 minutes. Enough time to allow the unwell feeling to pass. When coming out of the restroom all the hair stylists were gathered at the front desk talking until they saw me and got very quiet. I felt intimidated and that it was very rude. Quite unprofessional if you ask me. At this point my hair stylist came up to me and said she wasn't going to be continuing with my appointment and that I still have to pay for the all services I scheduled for. Not even asking if I was okay or felt well enough to continue. No concern or compassion for how I was feeling. It felt very cold and money hungry. I was fine and able to continue the appointment, but she already made her mind up about me and that she was going to cancel the appointment.She then rinsed my hair out and cut the rest of my bangs to make it even but my hair was still wet when I was directed to the front desk to pay for the services I ordered but, again, did not receive. She then said when I was feeling well I can come back and reschedule another appointment (which would mean paying AGAIN) Leaving with wet hair was humiliating. I have never been treated so poorly. Here's their policy (copied from their website) Cancellations - A minimum of 48 hours is required to reschedule or cancel an appointment. There is a rebooking fee if the cancellation is done within the 48 hour window. Deposits - Some services require a non refundable deposit prior to booking. Pricing - Prices are based on stylists experience and are subject to changes. Damaged or misplaced belongings - We are not responsible for items left behind or for damaged clothing/jewelry due to a salon service. A robe will be provided at your request to protect clothing. Refunds - Due to the nature of the business, we do not offer refunds on services rendered. It wasn't a cancellation. I didn't pay a deposit. What they charged me was not a "change due to the stylist's experience" I'm not asking for a refund on services rendered. The stylist chose to cancel the appointment. The stylist charged me for what I initially scheduled the appointment for and left me with wet hair. To top it off I wasn't feeling well. I then called to express my dissatisfaction with my experience in hopes that it would somehow be made right. I was told that just this once they would offer me an appointment of their choosing and that I could not be late. No grace, just this is what you get. Take it or leave it. I accepted this "oh so gracious offer" simply because I didn't want to just waste 356 dollars. Of course as I was on my way to the appointment I was held because of a car accident. I then called Max and Ro to explain the situation but because they were overbooked there wasn't room for being late. I was FIVE minutes away. Their reply? Okay we will cancel your appointment. I asked if they could get me in at another time. I was told no. That was it. That was my chance. They didn't have to help me. What hurts the most is how dismissive the experience felt. I expected to be treated with care and respect, but instead I walked out feeling unseen and taken advantage of. I hope the salon takes this feedback seriously and remembers that clients deserve to feel heard and appreciated, not dismissed and disrespected.

It's been many months since I've been here but my daughter, D., wanted to get a haircut so we…read morestopped in last week. The stylist, Maria, looked at my daughter's hair ("D." is half Samoan) and said,"I used to work in Cali and have lots of experience cutting black girls hair." This woman went on to yank a brush roughly through D's hair as she went on to say that most stylists in Salem would take one look at D's "black girl's hair" and refuse to cut so it would be best to just come back to see her. D's money fell out of her pocket onto the floor so she leaned forward to pick it up. Maria grabbed the apron/smock that was tied around D's neck and pulled backwards, instructing D to sit up. This resulted in D getting choked a bit. At this point, I was starting to wonder what Maria's problem was. We had asked for hair thinning and long, angled bangs. Maria thinned D's hair and when D asked that it be thinned more, Maria used the thinning scissors about 2 inches from the scalp. Now, I'm no hair stylist but it seems to me that if you cut very curly, kinky, frizzy textured hair that short it would just curl up and stick out, right? Then Maria chopped D's bangs. It was awful. I have pictures of the uneven, choppy, and very ugly job. D. paid and left then sat in the car with me and started crying. She felt so horrible about both the way her hair looked and for being told that no one would want to cut her "black girl's hair". Since Maria had given me her card with her cell number, I called and spoke to her when I got home. She apologized and said she would refund my daughter's money the next day. I took D. in the next morning and Maria handed us a refund as soon as we walked in. I thanked her for the refund and told her I still needed to speak to her. She had a customer in her chair but I had to let this woman know that what she said, how she treated my daughter, and how badly she cut D's hair was just so wrong. She did apologize repeatedly to my daughter although she insisted that she did cut properly. I thanked her for apologizing to my daughter and then left. I am posting pics so you can all see what I am talking about. The pic on the left is after Maria cut D's bangs. Pic on right is after my friend, who is not a stylist, trimmed and cleaned up Maria's work. I would caution anyone with non-Caucasian hair from getting a haircut from this person. This was a very bad experience for my daughter.

Pros: The salon is very cute and the staff is pleasant…read more Cons: I called and asked specifically for an appointment with someone that "really knows how to do color." That is definitely NOT what I got. My appointment was at 10am. The owner showed around 10:05am and unlocked the salon, which was supposed to be open at 9am according to the other stylists that were waiting outside in the rain. Once we were inside the owner told my stylist to go make coffee. Once I was finally seated I explained what I wanted. - I said I wanted a two color weave with caramel colored highlights and slightly darker low-lights. - I very specifically said more than once that I did not want light or yellow blonde highlights. I pointed to the blonde in my hair and said it was too light. - I said multiple times that I did not want to have to have a toner or all over color put on my hair after the weave. That I I did not want there to be a grow-out line due to there having to be an all over color or toner, and that the double color processing completely fries my curly hair. - I said that my hair lifts very quickly and easily and again, I did not want light blond bits in my hair. I explained that on a woman my age light blonde bits in darker hair read as gray. What I got was platinum blonde highlights. When my stylist started removing the foils she said, "Your hair lifts really quickly." I said, "That's what I said." She also put color on every single hair on my head - blonde in the foils and dark on all hair between. Since what I had at the point was already an all over color, but with platinum streaks, I explained that since the blond was too light, and since she had put color on everywhere and I would have a grow out line anyway, could she go ahead and do a toner. She rinsed out the color she used for a weave and said to me rather angrily, "The darker color will make the blonde look darker." Um, no - tiny bits of very light colored hair in with dark looks like grey on a 50-year old woman. She then used a permanent all over color. I was then charged extra for the additional color she used. Nice, huh?

Taking to yelp and reading the reviews for JB Salon I decided to take a leap and make an appointment. I called a little before 9 AM when they opened and was lucky enough to get a same day appointment on a Friday afternoon with Christa. When I walked in, the salon had a very cute and trendy vibe to it. All the salon chairs were full, but I was greeted immediately and even offered coffee, tea, ect. Christa invited me to take a seat in her chair and asked me what I had in mind for my hair cut. I showed her a few different pictures on my phone in hopes of giving her an idea of what I wanted. Being nervous about such a big change Christa assured me that everything would turn out great. My hair was shampooed, and we had friendly chatter while she cut. She checked in often with what I was thinking (lengthy checking, how short I wanted my layers, bangs ect.) I felt completely comfortable with the process and the direction she was going with my style. After about 40 minutes I had a new cut, and she even styled my hair as well. I am in absolute love with my new hair and I thank Christa for it and would reccommend her to anyone! The hair cut was $40, Im not sure if this is a flat rate, or how the pricing goes but it was well worth it, for the great new style I now have.
