Gary took me in at the last minute, which was so nice. I was pretty desperate, which was my own fault for not scheduling with my regular person. During the consultation he told me he was expensive, and he wasn't lying! I ordered 5 bundles of 20" Great Lengths and had him do a partial high light. Per his request, I gave him half for a deposit upfront. He made me aware that extraction was extra, which ended up being $150 for 2 hours. No issue there. The night before my appointment he had contacted me to tell me he unfortunately didn't get the hair, as he missed the delivery. He was prepared to give me a refund. Then he called me the day of my appointment and said he has the hair. Great! I go in a little later than planned, I arrived at 11:30am. I noticed at around 8pm there appeared to be still more than half the hair that needed to be installed. I asked him how much longer until he is finished. I finally got out of there around 11pm. He had originally had me booked for I believe 7, maybe 8 hours. Which I thought was extremely long. He did a good job and I would love to have him do my hair again, he gives amazing cuts! But I can't see any good reason for the whole entire process to take more than 5 hours total. (Perfectionist or not) I've gone to several Great Length technicians over the last 10 years and I've never sat in someone's chair for longer than 5 hours. And I always get the same services. Take out the old, Install the new, highlight and a cut. Gary if you find a way to match the other technicians in timing and cost, I would be a solid repeat client for many years to come - But I can't justify your prices being 2-3 times more than what I have paid over the years. Most technicians are at least in the same ball park. I think for the inconvenience of the long time in your chair you should price accordingly and at least price the hair and your services around what other technicians charge. Its too bad because you have great skill, like many other technicians out there. read more

I'll start with Gary is an awful person to go to for extensions. I have had Great Lengths hair Extensions for years. I went to him only once, the end of June 2021, to have them removed and have new extensions put in. Unlike other GL stylist he charged $100 an hour to take them out. Although all other GL stylists have removed them for free, I said okay because he didn't put them in. My appointment was at 10:00AM. When I walked in I asked if he could add highlights after taking them out. He said he had a client at 2:00PM and we should have enough time. He then stared at himself in the mirror and talked terribly bad about his ex-wife . His 2:00PM client showed up at 1:45PM. I still had 1/3 extensions on my head. At 2:00PM I mentioned his client was sitting outside the door and he said she can wait. She's been late before. At 2:25PM I still had 1/4 extensions, and I said I would come back the following day because I felt bad for the lady waiting. It normally takes about an hour and a half to remove GL extensions. Btw during our consultation a month prior, he said my hair Extensions could go 8-10 months because I take such great care of my hair( I learned my lesson the hard way a few years ago). At that time I had them in for three months and I always have them removed at 4 months. At 4 months I called and said I'd like to take them out now. I went home and my husband freaked out, I had paid him $450 for removal and I still had extensions hanging off my head. I called 4 different GL stylists and told them what happened but they were booked for at least 3-4 weeks out and my husband and I were leaving town the following weekend. I text him and told him I would go to someone else for the rest of the removal. He text me back to say he wouldn't charge for the rest of the removal and going forward he wouldn't charge. The next day he had the 1/4 out in 15 mins. I then had no other choice but to have him order them, because I had 3 days before our trip. I do 6 bundles, ash, golden blonde and a strawberry red, 2 of each. I still had at least a bundle and a half left, 1bundle of ash and 1/2 bundle of golden. I told him I would like to take my hair with me because we were planning on moving with a few months. He said he would keep them and he give his clients their hair if or when they leave him. We bought a house in Sedona and I had already talked to another GL stylist who will be driving up to see me there. I text him to let him know we close on house on September 28th and I had to stop by to pick up my extensions. He text me back saying he is allowed to keep them if I don't use them with him. HEADS UP LADIES, he's a liar!!!!! When you spend $400 a bundle on hair, don't let someone who stares at himself in the mirror and talks bad about his wife for hrs, then sends you home with hair hanging off your head. He's bad mojo!!!! I'm glad I took the time to write this review, hopefully this will detour you to another GL stylist, there are great ones out there. read more

Don't recommend for tape in hair extensions. There was a lot of pulling and not using quality materials to get the glue out. This made it a longer session - overcharged me - and gave me a massive headache. The extensions were too tight and too close to my ear which gave me headaches for a couple days. Gary charged me $413 and stood over me when I was signing so since I was actually intimidated and alone I left a tip that he didn't deserve bringing the total plus a "convenience fee" to $509.86. Most tape in move ups cost $150-300 (I'm from San Diego and I've also had tape ins for 5 years). My stylist in San Diego charges me $150 for a move up and it takes her an hour and a half. After tip it is $200 for quality work. I have 20 pieces in my hair so hopefully that gives you an idea. After my appointment, I asked if I could come next day to get them fixed as I had an event that night. He couldn't fit me in and realizing I didn't trust his work/didn't want to go through anymore tugging on my head, I went to another salon. I spent an additional $270 to get his work fixed as they were all too tight and there was still a lot of glue in my hair. I tried to get at least some of my money back but he argued with me the whole time. I provided proof with photos of the text messages so you can get the whole story and how long it took for him to give me a proper refund. When trying to find a stylist who wasn't afraid to make some big changes with my hair. Previous places were hesitant to cut my length and started slow telling me to come back if I wanted to go shorter even when I told them to keep going! I brought a few different examples of what I had in mind for Gary to see and told him to have at it, this is his profession and he's the expert. He first cut my hair which was well past my shoulders making it shoulder length, automatically making a difference in look and feel. He then worked his magic with how he was going to color my hair. Brought my base to my natural darker tone and added chunky highlights using 2 different tones. When it was all done, it looked looked amazing!!! I knew that being from New York, Gary would have both the ability and confidence to do what I've asked other stylists to do but they just couldn't give me the confident assurance that they comprehended what I was actually wanting. Gary is an awesome stylist and colorist. I have naturally curly hair that I used to straighten b/c I hated the curl. Gary cut it in a style that looks great with my curls.
