Long time listener, first time caller. This place was so good I had to join Yelp! I had the Italian cheese steak with ban pep and it was excellent. The house made chips were really good as well. Coke products a plus. After eating his kids meal pizza my 7 year old said "how do they make food this good?" The subs were good enough to bring us back by themselves but the fact that they have wings and pizza will bring us back again and again. I would go here with family or with buddies, as the bar was nice as well. The kicker for us is free kids meal between 4-8 EVERYDAY! Nothing irritates me more then a restaurant claiming to have an authentic Philly cheesesteak, because I'm born and raised in Philly and I know what the real deal is. That being said, thank goodness this place's menu does not call any of their cheesesteaks "Philly" because in no way do they resemble the beloved signature sandwich of my hometown. This place does brag on their "east coast style subs" but that's amusing in itself since no one in Philly ever uses the word "sub" to describe any sort of sandwich, let alone a cheesesteak. I was so hoping the Submarine House cheesesteak would be wonderful, because I live right around the corner and this would have become a regular place to visit. Their standard cheesesteak automatically comes on a toasted roll with mushrooms and "The Works" (way too much stuff....like hot pepper relish? WTF?!) Provolone cheese is the one and only cheese option. Here was the real shocker...no fried onions were available. How is this possible? By the time I customized my 6" sandwich to be as authentically Philly as possible, what I was served was literally about two small teaspoons of meat and a little bit of cheese on too much bread. It was truly laughable. Even with my discount coupon, I still spent too much on the sandwich for the ridiculously small amount of meat they gave me. Any dollar menu fast food burger is more hearty than this. A genuine Philly cheesesteak should be a fresh untoasted seedless Italian hoagie roll (Amoroso's is the classic brand) packed full with steak meat, fried white onions and either white American cheese or real Cheez Whiz. That's right, Cheez Whiz. Maybe a little catsup and/or mayo, that's all. Ask anyone who is a native Philadelphian and they'll tell you the same thing. When made correctly, this classic sandwich should be all about the delicious meat, cheese, onions and Italian bread....no need to bury the flavor of the meat under too many toppings. I will say though that their yummy Long Island Iced Teas are huge and a great bargain at only $5 (that's regular price, not just happy hour). The bar is large and comfortable. Staff was friendly and service was good. Hence the 2 stars rather than 0. But I would not waste my money on their cheesesteaks ever again. read more

This was our first visit, and probably our last (for food at least) for a while. Our waitress said that they had been opened now for 7 weeks, so we figured that they knew what they were doing. Well... We ordered 2 drinks, an appetizer, 2 side salads, and 2 subs that the waitress recommended. The drinks (a Cosmopolitan & the 'signature' Red Head) were awful. Both were $7. The Cosmo was about half of what you might expect for a Strip mall cocktail, while the Red Head was poorly poured. Both were sent back. If your going to offer a signature cocktail, you better know how to make it, and it should be lights out. Otherwise stick to the basics. The app were their 'Nacho Fries', which amounted to over salted fries and two small cups of pumped nacho cheese. I've had better apps served at a little league ball park. The salads looked like something smuggled in from Wendy's with plastic lids removed, including the plastic utensils. Finally, as stated in previous reviews, the subs were long on bread and short on meat. No wonder they offer a 'Super' and a 'Super Duper' with more meat. How about offering a higher quality introductory sandwich. The Steak Escape across the street offers a higher quality product for the same price or less. Dayton put out a high quality basketball team this year (UD lost to Florida while we were there). Sad to say that this export looks like it never should have left Montgomery County. read more

I just moved to this side of town and while driving around to get use to the area I ran across this place. This place is amazing! They have delicious subs and I've been told the bread is homemade. It definitely tastes like it. It's clean. Comfortable and I've since become a regular. The staff is very friendly and responsive to your requests. They have specials on drinks every night of the week and also do fun games on certain nights during the week for customers. They do have a few TVs for sport games so you can catch your game any night. I highly recommend checking this place out for the food and the drinks!!! read more

The Submarine House is a hidden gem. The staff is very friendly, and the setting is very nice. The Italian Cheese Steak was outstanding, and I would recommend you get the Super version with double meat and cheese. Have been to the Submarine House twice. We went the second time(against our better judgement) thinking maybe the mediocre to terrible food the first time was just a one time thing. NOPE! It was equally awful the second time. We ordered subs and they put so much "slop" on them that you cannot even taste the meat and cheese. The buns also got soggy from all the extra crap put on them. They brought one sandwich and sides. When I informed their driver the order wasn't correct he made me call an 800 number! I have been eating Submarine House subs for 35 years starting at the Original Submarine House on Main Street in Dayton, OH. I've always said that if I had to pick one thing to eat for the rest of my life, it would be cheesesteaks from Submarine House. When I moved to Columbus 20 years ago, I would drive an hour home just to get a sub so I was thrilled to see that they opened a store here in Columbus (well, Hilliard, but close enough). The store itself is always nice and clean and the staff is friendly, attentive and quick but even it was filthy and the staff were horrible, the food would always keep me coming back. Order the cheesesteak with the works. I don't do tomatoes but if I did, I'm sure they would be delicious on the sandwich. The steak is seasoned perfectly and the cheese is melty, gooey perfection (no, it's not Cheez Whiz for those purists from Philly). Lettuce, mayo, oil and vinegar but probably the best part is the cherry pepper relish. Not too hot, but spicy enough to make a difference, it's just the perfect topping to pull all the other ingredients together. I could eat it by the spoonful. Wash it down with your favorite beer and you'll be in heaven. Eat here and eat here often. You will not be disappointed. read more

Love this place and the service is great! Everything I have ordered has been great! Known for their cheese steak subs and hot pepper relish! Love both! But I generally ask bartender what to order and she is great with suggestions. My two faves.... 1) bbq chicken bacon ranch pizza. Yummy!!' 2) Tonight I tried the chicken quesadilla with chipotle ranch dressing including the hot pepper relish. Tastes amazing and is so stinking cute. I like my food to look appetizing. We love this place. It's great. But be aware it is not just a restaurant, but also a bar. That's pretty important. This isn't like an Applebee's that also serves liquor, no. About half of the place is a bar so of you have objections to drinking or have little kids and that matters to you, there's a bar. I saw a few reviews here that were bad, but it's clear that they didn't understand that it's a real bar inside that also serves food. Anyway. We think that the food is good and fairly priced. I really haven't ever regretted going here. My oldest daughter loves the meatball sub. I love the house chips. The service has always been friendly and present. If you go between 4-8pm kids get a free kids meal with an adult meal. Can't beat that. read more

Went here for the first time tonight. Got immediate and friendly service from two great servers. I ordered the Big T Tenderloin and my wife got the Italian Sub. The food was absolutely stellar, and the portions very generous. About halfway through the meal, the manager came out and asked us how we were enjoying our first visit (our servers had communicated to him it was our first time). We complimented the food and service and he got my wife a refill on her drink. A very pleasant experience all around! We'll definitely be back! read more

This review is for the bar only. I was there last night with a group of people. We had the place mostly to ourselves, about 20 of us. I order a tall draft beer for the guy behind the bar and he brings me a glass that has 1.5" of foam on the top. I give him a 20.00 and he gets the change. I suck the foam off the top and expect him to top it off after he sees just how bad a pour it was... but no he doesn't say a thing after putting my change on the bar. I take the change and leave no tip. 1st time in 20 years that I don't tip a bartender... Friends get subs and they a mumbling about how little there is in them. They look like all bread... A new place should not skimp on the pour or the meat to save a few dimes, they will end up out of dollars instead. read more

I am originally from Dayton, so I am very familiar with the Submarine House chain throughout my life. When I found out that they had a location in Columbus, I was pretty excited to eat their food as it had been at least 10 years since I had had it. The food was ok--definitely not as great as I remembered. I got a 1/4 Turkey with the works. It was so insanely oily and wet that it was dripping everywhere and incredibly hard to hold and eat. It also had very little of the pepper relish, which I had been looking forward to. My friend got the 1/4 Super Cheesesteak. He said it was ok, needed salt, and also had very little pepper relish. We shared a basket of Teezers, which were good. They needed to be fried about 60-90 seconds longer, but we still both liked them. The service was very minimal. I'd still go back because I can't find any other place that makes teezers, and I love them. And I'd ask for the sandwich to have either the condiments on the side or to be half what they were. read more

Hands down the worst Italian sub I've ever had. The sandwich was mostly bread, at least it was good bread. Barely any meat at all. Ham and salami, paper thin serving. No mortadella, no pepperoni, no capicola, no prosciutto. If you're going to call your place Submarine House you need to brush up on your recipe. Have some respect. read more

I've frequented this place at least 5 times since they opened last year, having been recommended by people familiar with their Dayton locations. I really wanted to like it. It would have been a good alternative to the nearby dive bars or Roosters or Luckys. But the food in my opinion fell far short of the reputation I had heard about at the other locations. And the bartenders attentiveness and knowledge also were disappointing on more than one occasion. My first visit shortly after they opened was encouraging. I stopped in late and the bartender or bar manager had a variety of bottles and microbrew drafts. But with each subsequent visit it seems the microbrew taps have been replaced with more domestic beers. Good for some patrons I'm sure but I like a nice varied beer menu. Another stop was happy hour and the bartender offered the Margarita special. Short glass, weak, standard sour mix, nothing special. Another stop in was during some promotion during a weekend day and I've never seen the place as filled. I took a seat at the bar, there were a few bartenders working yet it still took 5 minutes for me to be greeted. I asked for a domestic bottle. Wasn't offered a menu. Next trip was in the evening during the week. One bartender behind the bar as I walked in and took a seat at he bar. She never came over to me. I eventually left right after she greeted a couple that sat down after me. Last trip was late around 11. I was hoping their kitchen was still open but I had just missed last call for the kitchen. Thinking just a quick beer would suffice, but I was told I had missed last call for that too. Too bad I thought, wishing they would do more to grow a clientele. It's a nice space inside. Probably good for the after softball game crowd. Regarding the food , I thought the subs lacked enough toppings and the pizza was by no means anything special. I may try to visit one more time. Again I'd really like to see this place succeed. I hope they can do something to bring me back. But I'm afraid this place won't be around in this location if the service and quality I've received is par for everyone else. read more

What a great place tucked into a strip mall. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in and saw it was not just a sandwich place. Great decor, very nice bar, and great service. I got the cheesesteak sub as I figured it was a safe bet for my first time. It was excellent and the hot pepper relish is a unique addition. They have numerous TVs playing a variety of sports. As I live close this will be undoubtedly become one of our frequent stops. I can't wait to try the rest of the sandwiches! read more

Its also clear that business is not doing well as they were doing Movie trivia DURING dinner rush. Ended up having to walk over to get a booster seat for my toddler because the wait staff didn't think to ask. Ok, so this place opened about a month ago. I figured that was a good amount of 'break in' time to get into the swing of restaurant operation. We walked in just as they were opening on a cold Sunday hoping to be transported to the equally cold cheesesteak haven of South Philly. We should have driven the 9 hours. I ordered the 8" super cheesesteak which was described with double meat, cheese, and mushrooms and a side of onion rings. My wife got a regular 8" cheesesteak, fried pickles and my daughter got the chicken fingers with fries. The chicken, fries, pickles, and onion rings were your standard frozen food supply variety. Nothing special. My sandwich came out without the extra meat or cheese and no mushrooms. Our server fixed the problem immediately and brought me a new sandwich. In my opinion the overall steak lacked for the price. Barely any mushrooms, a mediocre meat (even as a 'super' portion) to bread ratio and heavily peppered. Very cool atmosphere and terrific staff but the food could use some work. read more

This was suggested to us since it's kids eat free from 4-8 daily. They had a nice selection of expected bar food and I noticed they had one of my favorite vodkas, Watershed, at the bar. While we didn't drink, it was still a nice, clean atmosphere to take the kids early evening. I had the pork tenderloin and it was great! My husband really enjoyed his gyro. It wasn't bad, but I can make a better sub at home. The onion rings were frozen. How hard is it to whip up some batter and slice an onion. Again nothing I couldn't get at home. My first draft beer tasted like the tap had not been cleaned in a while so I switched to bottles. If you want a casual place to watch a game or have a beer this is the place. Basically a steak-um with lettuce, tomato, no feta, and low grade tisiki sauce...that's right I can't spell the sauce but I know a Gyro and this place sucked. Wife had an Italian sub, below par.
