Suburban Fence Inc did a beautiful job on our 6ft corner lot cedar fence. Rich came out to give us an estimate. He was knowledgeable, professional and polite. He even had a quote for us by the end of the day and followed up to see if we had any questions. Another company came out but didnt have the quote until over a week and didnt follow up. The team who built the fence were polite, cleaned up and the construction, sturdiness and detail was outstanding. The team was quick to put up but not to quick to compromise their work. So never mind the security camera footage showing your employees damaging my newly poured concrete, which you ignored before. The contractor you speak of was the concrete company I hired as I am not required to abide by your "estimate" for repairs. After vetting several fence contractors, Suburban Fence was the right choice for us for several reasons. The company is very thoughtful of how they run their business. They had the foresight to recognize seasonal supply shortages, especially during COVID-19 season - and stocked their inventory to be ready for bookings in the spring. Suburban Fence booked our job 2 weeks after they gave us a quote. Other contractors were not able to schedule for months. The project itself was very well run. We had one foreman begin our job, and handed over to second one to finish it, but the transition was seamless. Midway into the project, our foreman explained that the unevenness with the ground would result in gaps underneath the fence if we kept the design level. He was able to recommend a subtle slope along with the ground, to reduce the gap underneath while keeping the overall look of the fence even. The teams worked with precision and expertly constructed our fence. They were very considerate during the construction; at the end of each day, the work site was tidy and neat. They even worked through the holiday weekend to get it right. The cedar materials are top notch. We went with Postmaster steel posts, resulting in an ultra-strong fence as well as a seamless look that both me and my neighbor enjoy on both sides. I called suburban Fence for an estimate to have a 6ft vinyl fence installed in my backyard. Alex of Suburban Fence came out to give me that estimate and explained briefly how the fence will be installed. He answered all my questions I needed to know before the installation and show me the design of the fence corner to corner. I agree to the price and the crew from Suburban Fence came out and did a professional and fantastic job. The crew worked hard removing the old chain link fence as well as digging the holes for the new fence posts. They left my yard nice and clean after finishing the job. I had used Suburban Fence years ago and I contacted them to replace a fence. They couldn't get someone out to give me a free estimate for over a week, and thought they must be busy but ok. Arranged to meet on Monday and the representative showed up on time All went well and was told I'd get quote later in the day, which I did. The quote was very high which led me to believe they didn't want the job. I followed up with the rep via email later that day, asking if there was any flexibility in their pricing, and two days later never heard back. I then sent follow up to reps phone and yet another email and to date, nothing at all from the Suburban Fence rep. I would expect that a business would give a potential customer the courtesy of a response, after receiving a quote and two follow up emails. But in the case of Suburban Fence, nothing. We picked Suburban Fence because they guaranteed the work could be done by a specific date which other companies were not able to meet. On the day they work was to be done, no one showed up, no call. I eventually contacted them and was told the work was postpended and they did not know the new date. After almost 2 weeks of me constantly hounding them and many unreturned calls I got a new date scheduled which was just days before I needed the work completed. The first day of work was fine except I noticed a hole for a replacement post was not dug, I mentioned it to the crew that came back and they told me they were aware and would handle it. The crew replaced the wrong post and left garbage all over my yard. Sadly I do not think this company is what it was years ago. We will not use them again. read more

Just had my fence completed and very happy and satisfied. The crew wadded moas out in the cold and snowy weather to do the job. Being a new built home they noticed the yard was not level and some areas that my dog my have been able to get out. They added more pieces of fencing to make sure the area was secure. The fence itself is very nice. The installers were very professional and helpful. Unfortunately they were short some sections of fence and we had to wait a bit longer for this to be completed. Parts were ordered and expedited. I would probably give this company five stars but the customer service isn't awesome. One day after the job was complete our dog got caught on a prong and bent it. I emailed a few times asking if someone could come out and bend it back and Rich even asked for pictures which I promptly sent. I would have been happy to even pay someone to come out and fix it but Rich never emailed me back. We sent a couple of referrals his way but honestly I'm not impressed by the communication or lack thereof. Several emails have gone unanswered. Nice fence. Good installers. Customer service is lacking. I won't be referring others and have relayed my customer service experience to those I did refer. Beware all trusting consumers that deal with Suburban Fence. One of the most stressful experiences ever. The salesman came off initially as trustworthy and accommodating, but once they had our down payment (half of total cost), all niceties ended. Just imagine every unpleasantness you can and that sums up this company: 1. Unreachable salesperson, messages from customer ignored for days. 2. Bait and switch tactics with their materials (crew showed up with a different fence material, and we were told we should take it because it was "what they had on the truck" and otherwise we'd lose another day). We refused. 3. Unprofessionalism from salesman to workers, and no one above them to complain to. This includes: no idea when or if workers will show up, damage to our siding during post installation, bullying/yelling salesman when we finally did get him on phone (he tried to turn around their terrible work practices so that it was somehow ours- the customer's- fault), workers who may or may not ring a doorbell, and for some reason will not call you to let you know they're coming, but you still are expected to wait all day in case they show up that day, resulting in lost days as they attended to other jobs (so much for the "2-day" job). Ours was a simple and straightforward job by any standards- a 15-foot section of fence with a gate. Nothing complicated or fancy. But we lost a week of our lives on these guys, and the worst part of it was the incredible stress and the way we were treated by their salesman. We ended up canceling the job after 5 posts were cemented, and building the fence ourselves, afraid now to trust any other companies, even though we'd never done a fence before. That's how terrified we became about trusting another fence company because of Suburban Fence. I can't warn you enough not to use this company. read more

Our small yard took 2 days longer than it was supposed to because the workers took a 4 hour lunch break the 1st day and disappeared for 5 hours another day. Got a quote for 2 chain link gates to be installed at my tenant's house - 1 over the driveway and 1 small passage gate. Quote was a little pricey, but several other companies either didn't do small jobs or didn't show up for the estimate appointment. After getting the quote and putting down the deposit, it took almost 2 months for them to start the work. During that time, there was no communication from them and I had to call to get a status. They would not return my calls, texts, or emails until several days later, if at all. Each time, they couldn't tell me when the fence would be installed. Very poor customer service. When they finally "installed" the fence I found out that they would only install the posts that day. After that, it was another 2 weeks of no communication until the panels were installed. They finished the job without telling me, and the quality was very poor. Then of course the communication improved drastically. They began calling me every other day. They left a message in which they demanded their money and accused me of swindling them of their $400. This accusation came because apparently I was supposed to pay them when they finished installing the fence, which they never told me they did. I guess I was supposed to sit at my tenant's house all day every day for an indefinite period of time waiting for them to complete a 2 hour job so that I could pay them on the spot. I wonder what they would have done if I had dropped off the radar for 2 months like they did when I was waiting for my fence to be installed. I recommend looking elsewhere for fence work. read more

The only reason I gave an extra star was cause the fence installers were great. The management doesn't care about the timely manner of your project. It took them 15 days to complete my very small project. They are no cheaper than the other companies. You will have to play manager of your project, no one will no anything. We are simply writing this review for the work they performed on the neighbor's house next door to us. She installed a huge fence between our homes, which at the beginning started out without issues. However, upon finishing their work, they left our property full of mud, they actually used one of our picnic chairs to climb on. The chair was left full of mud, they did not even take a moment to clean their mud tracks off our backyard concrete. We are appalled at the way they treated our property while placing the fence for the next door neighbor. No regard for the properties next to the work they are performing. We called on various occasions and not once have we received a call back. Definitely going to call the Better Business Bureau. read more

There are no half-stars, or I would have rated Suburban Fence 4.5 stars because, although I was satisfied with their work, they have areas that need improvement. I contracted Suburban Fence twice, once in 2017 and another just this past month. Rich, the person that came to my house for the estimate is very nice and answered all my questions, and I had a lot. He also provided good alternatives for a couple spaces we had issues with. Once we got the permit and set the start date, the workers came and did the work in a timely fashion - the second time we sat outside while they worked and they are pleasant. The fence is very nice. The only reason why I say they need improvement is because of Donna, their receptionist. She just does not answer the phones, respond to messages or keep any type of electronic records for the jobs (who does that in this day and age?). I would have had them come back to do the second job last year, but I just was not able to get Donna live on the phone, nor to get her to call me back. I am sure there are a lot of people that just don't bother calling back. Very respectfully, the receptionist situation needs to be addressed, it is very frustrating. read more

The two guys were wonderful to work with - very professional, charming, and intelligent. I loved that they were such perfectionists and always asked such clear questions with problem areas to make it work for us! A couple of months ago, I would have given this firm 5 stars. Unfortunately, they're more interested in SELLING fences than they are in customer service. Attention to detail leaves a lot to be desired, and getting them to answer a call after they install the fence is next to impossible. An entire section of fence was left unnailed and the gate on the fence was not hung correctly. Their response. "We didn't build the gate." But dudes..you built the fence and had to rehang the gate. One thing nice about this company is someone answers your call, if not, returns your call. I ordered vinyl fence. The only thing I didn't like about it is that the installed product was different from my choice. The sales rep said that it was the correct product when in fact I clearly marked on the catalogue what I wanted. Anyhow, the installed design was still satisfactory. After they have installed the fence, there was about almost 2 feet gap from the ground to the base of the fence. I would not recommend Suburban Fence to anyone. The customer service experience with the company is horrendous. The fence itself is ok. Thankfully it isn't too bad now that it is finally done (although it is a different fence than what we asked for). Here are the issues we had with Suburban Fence: We were told to go get the permit anytime after Wednesday (because Suburban Fence needed to file paperwork with our village). We went on Friday (gave them an extra two days) and we could not get our permit for another week after that because Suburban Fence did not file the necessary paperwork with the village. During this time, they had no issues cashing our $2,774 deposit though. We were told that the fence would be installed by Mid May. The installation was not complete until June 7th. We were given an installation date of May 31st. Mid way through the day on 5/30/17 we got a call from the office saying that jobs got pushed back and they would not be coming until 6/1/17. My husband had already rearranged his work schedule to be home on 5/31/17 and was given less than 24 hours notice that they weren't coming to make other arrangements. The initial crew came on 6/1/17. The old fence was removed and the new fence posts were installed with cement. At the end of the day we were told by the foreman that we would get a call when someone was going to come back. When we questioned what that meant he said that it would be at least 24-48 hours before someone would be back because the cement would need to dry. While that is completely understandable, this is something that should have been communicated up front. We had no idea that it would take days to have the fence installed. My husband contacted our salesman, Alex, to question this since we were not told this initially and we have 2 dogs, and our neighbors have 2 dogs so waiting days would be an inconvenience for everyone. The salesman Alex said that he would see what he would do to get a crew there the next day. My husband stayed home from work again on 6/2/17 because he thought a crew was coming. Mid way through the day my husband reached out to Alex to determine what was going on. Alex said that a crew would be coming to our home "early" on 6/3/17. On 6/3/17 we waited around all morning for a crew to show up. When nobody had come by 9:30am, I called Alex and left him a voicemail. He called me back and said that unfortunately a crew wasn't coming and that they would be coming tomorrow. I explained to him how unprofessional it is for a company to say they are going to come do work and then not show up and not call. I asked for a time that I could expect the crew to show up on 6/4/17. He said that he would get back to me but never did. I finally texted him at 8:30pm to find out a time and his response was: "I just spoke to my boss he said unfortunately not till Monday morning. If you have any further questions, please feel free to call the office tomorrow morning." At this time I told him that this was unacceptable and I wanted to speak to his boss. On 6/4/17, I called the office a few times throughout the day and only got a voicemail. In the afternoon I texted Alex after no response or answer from the office to confirm if the company was planning to come on 6/5/17. I got no response from Alex or the office. On 6/5/17, I called the office again in the morning and again there was no answer. At about 7:45am a woman from the office called and wanted to know when I wanted to set up an estimate. I explained to her that I do not need an estimate and that I wanted to know if the company was coming to install the rest of the fence that day or not so my husband would know if he could go into work or if he was going to be staying home again. Her response was "well, I wouldn't know that, you would have to talk your salesman." I told her that we did try to contact our salesman about this and have gotten nowhere. My husband reached out to our salesman, Alex that morning and finally got a response saying that they would be there between 9a-11a. At 11a, they were not there so my husband had to call again to question what was going on. Alex said that there truck was near our home and would be there soon. They arrived at about 11:30am and started installing the fence. The crew worked until about 7pm and had to stop because they didn't have anymore good lumber on their truck. They said that what was left was bad lumber and that when they nailed it, it would just split. So another day without a completed fence. On 6/6/17 the crew came back again with better lumber to finish the fence. The finished the fence that day and cut the top of it the opposite way of what we asked for. When we signed our contract we asked for the fence to look like our next door neighbor's fence that they had installed last fall. The salesman, Alex wrote down scalloped. I'm happy to see that MOST reviews are positive. However, my experience with these guys was absolutely AWFUL after their first visit. Very poor communicators internally and externally. They closed my job when it was 30% done, so I had to call multiple times to get it going again (they are slow to return calls). Then they delivered the wrong materials for a gate, so I had to send them back. Then, after having to leave an embarrassingly angry phone message, the lead guy called me. They came out the next day, and promptly built two parts of my job not to spec. They even moved part of my landscaping to make the wrong build work (which I had to fix by myself). Long story short, if you are a micro-manager who loves to pay people for a job you have to oversee yourself, these are your guys. Very disappointed because they had several jobs in our neighborhood. I used Suburban Fence several years ago and they were terrible! They installed cedar planks that had some sort of fungus or something and they started to deteriorate right away. I called to have them replace the planks that were damaged and they didn't return my (many) calls until the warranty period was over, and then they said "sorry, the warranty period is over." Now one of my posts is tipping over, as well. I will have to call another fence contractor to fix it. I can't believe these people are still in business. They said that my neighbor said to do the damage and she did not. They left pieces of wood all over the yard, spilled cement on the grass, and left trash all over the yard.
