On time and very knowledgeable. My central air quit on me this week in my home in the Boston area. Quit on me on one of the very hottest couple of days this month Was not expecting a visit for at least a day To my surprise the technician showed up and problem solved. Technician Dan and Mike were superb !!!!!! Will and have recommend Suburban to my friends and family. I rarely leave reviews, but my experience with this entity was so bad I feel compelled to warn others. This is one of the worst businesses I've come across in my 30 years. In particular, the customer service is extremely unprofessional. Lisa specifically is rude, dismissive and careless. We were told that we have a "top-tier" Carrier system (they installed). Then when our AC stopped working this summer, they sent out a technician (who spent hours working on it) but was unable to fix the issue. He said despite not resolving it, he still needed to charge me for the hours (which came out to about $800). I reluctantly paid it and told him to have their customer service rep call me. They never did. Then when my wife called they said we would need a bunch of new part (new compressor, etc.) and the install would take a few hours. After expressing my frustration, their office manager (Joanne) called me and BEGGED me to come back and use their services (have emails for proof). Again, I reluctantly agreed and they came out and "fixed" the issue. 3 months later the system cranked out again. When we called Lisa, she said in her computer system there was a notice that said "Not to Service" this household. She remained silent after that (offering no assistance or remorse). When we asked what we should do or if she would help, she said "No, use someone else." Then when my wife left a review here on Yelp, which you can all see, the owner falsely said "Lisa politely told you" (NOT true) ...and goes on to even say this "confirms we made the right decision". That's how you treat customers? After they give you $800 for not completing the service? Wild. In short, these are not people you want to be doing business with. Do not be sold on their "we're a family-owned business" spiel. One of the most unprofessional I've come across. Take your business elsewhere. read more

Terrible customer service. We were told we had a "top-of-the-line" Carrier system, which they installed. Since moving into our home, we've had nothing but issues. Our AC stopped working in the summer. They charged us for an evaluation, then again to come back and "fix" the issue, but that repair didn't work. They eventually realized the entire compressor system needed to be replaced, which was going to cost thousands of dollars. I questioned why a supposedly new, top-tier system would need a new compressor after only a few years unless it was installed improperly. After a lot of back and forth, they finally agreed to replace the compressor. Now it's winter, and we have no heat. When I called Suburban to ask about service, Lisa told me there was a "no-service" note on our account and said she wasn't sure what I wanted from them. That response says everything - they clearly don't care about their customers or about ensuring a positive outcome. Instead of taking accountability for their mistakes, they refuse to help. Thankfully, we're now working with a different HVAC company that has been amazing -- responsive, honest, and professional. TLDR would not recommend. read more

I was interested in installing heat pumps for my home, mainly due to the Whole-Home Mass Save incentives of $10k rebate and interest free financing. I had contacted multiple companies to perform this work and chose Suburban. From my initial consult with Bobby, I knew they were the ones to complete this project. Bobby is the real deal. Not only very knowledgeable of these systems, but LISTENED to what I had in mind from a design perspective. ie- I wanted to have a ducted unit for my 2nd floor, which other contractors said wasn't possible, or refused to do it. Most likely, because it wasn't the quick and easy way. Luis and Nick arrived on the scheduled start date, completed the work in 4 1/2 days and always communicated and treated our home as if it were their own. My attic was not a fun place to work, due to blown in insulation and tight working quarters. I also had an idea which required them to run lines behind a finished wall in my basement which they were able to complete successfully. Jenn in the office was also terrific with scheduling and helping submit necessary paperwork to Mass Save. It was a pleasure working with Bobby, Luis, Nick, Jenn and the entire Surburban team. read more

Suburban is very knowledgable about heating systems and they have kept our HVAC system running smoothly with regular tune ups and replacing parts when necessary for many years. You can pick up the phone and call them and a person will answer, unlike so many homeowner services that make you go through a maze of teleprompts or exclusively online. Recently one of their technicians charged us 15 minutes of additional time for a routine a/c tune up. She was a new technician that we never had at our home before. We spent a few minutes chatting and she used our bathroom, and then charged us an extra 15 minutes. I called the office and Tracey arranged a refund that was sent to me within about a week. Overall I've had very positive experiences with Suburban and would recommend them because they do good quality work that will last over time. read more

I'll write a more detailed review later - but faulty install that resulted in a month+ of basement flooding because of a broken pump they failed to diagnose. Instead told me it was the uninsulated ducting that was collecting basement moisture and I could pay them 2000~ to insulate them, and it was "my fault" that the ducting was uninsulated and "how were they supposed to know" that the aircon ducting in an unconditioned basement would collect condensation and moisture. I had to diagnose the broken pump and faulty GCI outlet they installed as part of the system myself, which the technician they sent over failed to diagnose properly. No remediation or gestures for the faulty install, weeks of flooding, mod damage. Furthermore they wanted to do it in March/April but I didn't want to be without heat for an unknown period of time they claimed would be about 3-5 days... so scheduled for May, and good thing I held off as it took weeks for them to finish the job, during which time I had to keep atop of them, often finding that follow through had been dropped - meanwhile we were experiencing lows in the 50s and highs in the 90s - freak weather perhaps but would have been awful to be without heat for weeks in March/April. They also made some awful suggestions for my the other unit in the building and other HVAC Pros (The ones who I had to bring in to properly diagnose their faulty install) were agape at (wow this was a little longer than I meant). read more

I had a problem with a residential unit recently and after coming out on an emergency service basis to look at the unit, they couldn't have been more reasonable on billing for assessing the problem. I am a homeowner. I have a 8 year old Carrier gas furnace that needed a gas valve. The system blinks code 35 which when googled confirms bad valve. Called Suburban who sent out a tech to tell me I have a bad gas valve and charged me $215 and left. Then Suburban emailed me a quote for $1,095 for parts and labor to put a new valve in. That's $1,310.00 total. No way! I looked elsewhere. The part cost me $300. My buddy installed it in 30 minutes no charge. Works like a charm. Suburban was going to charge $1,310.00 asking for 50% upfront. With help from a friend, we did it for $300. Something is very wrong with this picture. I can understand a company wanting to make a christian profit but Suburban, shame on you for trying to rip off your customers. Never again. Consumers beware. Go elsewhere. read more

Our office building's air conditioning decided to move out last week and stopped working properly. The property was sold just weeks ago and the new owners were clueless about who to call for service, even though Suburban has held the contract for this building and property for nearly a decade. We were able to scream loudly enough to get the attention of the new owners (finally after 7 days) and tell them to call Suburban. Suburban's head of service ops and a tech were here within an hour. This is incredible service! We are in the midst of a heat wave and everyone is calling for HVAC help, but the man who manages the place jumped in a truck and grabbed a tech to come fix this himself because his service people were all out and committed elsewhere. I cannot say enough good things about this company who have kept our building warm and cool for a loooong time read more

Suburban charged $80K for an HVAC system that hasn't worked properly since it was installed several years ago. But when we call for service, they will not fix it. Other HVAC folks who have come since have noted shoddy quality of the install due to Suburban cutting corners, which is likely why the system has never worked well. read more

I am an existing Suburban customer for regular maintenance of my HVAC system. I also had them clean the ductwork throughout y home. I have been satisfied with their work until now. On May 2nd, 2023 I had the salesman (Ken) visit my home to see if they could ad a second zone on the second floor. He was very polite and assured me it wouldn't be a problem to do so. He took measurements and told me he would have a proposal sent to me within a week. After three weeks I followed up and he told me on May 22nd that I would have my proposal tomorrow. After a month of no response I followed up on July 10th and he told me he had my proposal and he would send it out. It is now September 6th and I have not hear or received anything!!! Little perplexed about a quote over the phone on a system that is less than 3 years old and apparently needs to be looked at. If you call during off hours it's about $300 an hour in which the time starts from the moment the tech leaves the previous job??? I'm sorry but why are we paying for that travel time? A mechanic doesn't charge me when I'm on the way to the shop. If you call and schedule during regular business time, it's about $200. I read a review in which Suburban responded to another post stating they don't charge unless you have the intent to buy something. Well I intend to have my unit up and running. Why don't you charge me for that instead off a technicians travel time? I understand it can be a 2 hour job but it can also be a 30 min job in which it would suck to have to pay $300+ an hour because of where the technician is coming from. That is unacceptable. This was a big job when I contracted Suburban and was initially satisfied with the system but didn't expect it to stop working so suddenly just before summer hits. I would think you would at least honor the work being around the corner from your office as I tried to give a local company work. Update 5/21/22 I was at work and received a call from suburban earlier in the day to say they could have a tech at my address between 12-4. Mind you I never scheduled with them. I told them I'd call to schedule if needed. I'm coming home from work and could see they are parked in my driveway through my security system. I was 15 mins away. I get home and the tech is ready to get to work but I haven't agreed to any service. I asked what he was going to do since I got my system up and running? According to dispatch he would perform the tune up and what ever the system might need additionally for $192 an hour plus material. I declined and received a cancellation bill in the mail. January 27, 2021 This is absolutely a first rate company in every aspect! Suburban just completed removal of my oil burner and installation of a new gas boiler. Without meaning to, I made mistakes almost every step of the way with things that were my responsibility- failing to sign papers on time, not having a new meter installed ahead of time and failing to schedule inspections for prior work. This meant Suburban had to stop the installation several times and it turned a one day job into a four day job, over a two week period. They never once complained, and although the extra trips must have certainly increased their costs, they never passed those increases on to me. The guys that did the actual install were just fantastic. They never complained or got upset as they hit the numerous delays caused by my errors. They were always there on the dates/times they said they'd be, they were neat, they were courteous, they were professional, they were competent and they updated me each step of the way. When the install was complete, they left the area cleaner than it was before they started! I was so impressed with them I sent the owner a note telling him I wish I had guys like them when I had my own business. Every person I dealt with at Suburban - Richard, Bobby, Mark, Phil, Sam and Beverly - was not only professional, they were also kind and understanding on a personal level. I'd never dealt with this company before and I didn't know any of the personnel before, so based strictly on how they performed their service, I can say without hesitation, this is absolutely a first rate company in every aspect. Bad service. They are not honest. Suburban condemned my heating system. The estimate for a new system was around $26k. I consulted Nicholson Plumbing which is another HVAC company I had good experience with in the past fixing my water heater. I was surprised to find out that my system did not need to be replaced. Nicholson actually fixed it for around $1300. read more

Suburban has gone down hill been a customer for20 plus,years they even installed new double units for me few years ago , but it's sad that now they are just lacking in work ethics and just money hungry ! Had this company come over recently for a quote to revamp my heating and also put in AC. The employee who came was super nice and friendly and we were looking forward to working with them. However, after the employee gave us his initial plan, when I finally spoke with him several days later (it was extremely difficult to get a hold of him) he told me instead of the original suggestion of conversion of steam heat to a combi system through the radiators, they actually couldn't use the radiators and then said they would want to do forced hot air and central AC. Totally different than the initial suggestion. What was much more concerning however was it was nearly impossible to get in touch with this individual who visited our house. After this recommendation, I sent him multiple emails with follow up questions and asked for a quote. I actually finally asked if he was still interested in the job at all because he was not responding - and I still didn't get a response. They totally ghosted. It was extremely poor communication. If they didn't want the job they could have at least let me know. I did not appreciate the way I was treated. read more

Adjust your expectations: These guys were recommended to me (and they had pretty good reviews, but this won't be one of them) so I called as I have some issues with the design of my 2nd floor HVAC system. I wanted to see if they would come out and assess how it could be improved. Called the office and explained exactly that. The response? Well your system is 15 years old and probably needs to be replaced. No, it's working fine but I need someone with some design experience to take a look, not a technician who does repairs. Ok someone will get back to you. 3 days later no call so I called again. The exact same conversation with the suggestion that the system probably needs to be replaced. Really? Apparently it's ok for someone who answers the phone to diagnose these things over the phone and that is their go to response. Re- explained the situation...... So, I was able to schedule a "phone appt" a week later with someone with design experience or so I was told. Had the conversation again, explaining what I was looking to accomplish. The response? I assume you're looking for someone to come out at no charge? Well, yes, this is for a consultation and a proposal to fix the issue. Ok, I'll get back to you. It's now been two weeks since I was told someone would get back to me. Nada. Guess they charge to make assessments of projects (new installations as well?) and if you're not willing to pay they just don't bother with you. Also very skeptical of a company where their immediate response without even seeing the system in question is that it needs to be replaced. Buyer beware..... read more

I needed a replacement AC coil and condenser. From the first phone call to Suburban through receiving the final paperwork I was extremely impressed with this company. Their quote was fair, definitely not the highest quote I received. Their staff is courteous, professional and knowledgeable. The only glitch was after 3 days, I turned on my AC and the condenser wasn't working. This happened during a hot summer weekend. I called and reached someone on the first try. Turns out they have weekend coverage, a bonus. They sent a tech out an hour later. It turns out a wire was loose. Everything worked out. I've worked with many contractors and this is the first time I feel the need to share my experience because it was as good as it gets. read more

Years ago, my AC didn't work at the beginning of the summer. I called a HCAC company. They sent a technician out. The man looked at my system and said that I "needed a new motor". I am no expert in HCAC but I knew that my outdoors compressor was working. So, suspicious that I would have to pay over $2,500 to replace the motor, I paid him for his service (about $80 for the diagnostic visit" and sent him on his way. I then called Suburban. Later that day they sent a young man who came and looked at my AC system for 5 minutes. He looked up at me and said, "the thermostat sensor is shot, needs to be replaced" "How much?" I asked him. He said, "about $65, and I have the part in the truck". In about 15 minutes, he had the part replaced, and the air pumping through my house became cold and wonderful. I have kept their number ever since. This summer, my AC had trouble again. The Suburban tech came out, replaced the Freon in the system, and my house was cold again. So when I woke up this morning to a hot house, my first thought was to call Suburban. My compressor was not working this time. When I called Suburban, they told me that they could send out a tech on an emergency basis, but it would be expensive since it was a Sunday. They asked if I had tried resetting the power to the compressor, turning it off and back on. I did that, and lo and behold, my compressor started back up and now my house has wonderful AC again. From my experiences with Suburban, I would say that these are honest, competent people who can help you, and are not trying to fleece you for the maximum amount of money. They could have sent out a technician today and charged me an arm and a leg. But they tried to save me the money and trouble by giving me their very useful suggestion. I think that every HVAC company out there has technicians who are trained and know how to fix your air conditioning. But I really appreciate it when I find a company which is not only competent, but honest. I give them my highest recommendations. read more

the owner which i originally spoke to was courteous. at the time they were the only company available to do an emergency repair. this was before the pandemic. the employee can by and said some to me was very rude and insensitive and i don't know how to say it in a better way but he acted like he had some screws loose. when i told the head of manager of the company he seemed to me like he thought it was funny. the worker did a good job but i tried to stay away from him because he behavior was freaking me out. I was planning to use this company again before i met this employee to replace my a/c system would have been great if i were head of the company. because as you know replacing an a/c is expensive. We had a high efficiency gas boiler/hot water combo installed about 12 years ago. We have had numerous problems... shower going cold- fire in the unit resulting in no heat/hot water for three weeks last winter... Now a leak so we called someone new. Apparently it's been leaking for a while and needed $100 in parts/labor to get it up and running. Suburban sends very nice people out and they seem to know what they are doing- they have corrected installation mistakes and done their best. But they have not maintained it properly or fixed all of the problems so we are switching to a different company. We just spent $1000 to stop the leak and repair some corrosion- we probably need a new unit soon... We won't be using Suburban, and we won't be installing another Bosch. read more

Extremely dishonest people! They are authorized Carrier dealers! I have 2 year old Carrier furnace with 10 year part warranty. Hired them (mistake) to check the unit. Tech told me that two parts need replacement. They Gave me the quote with charges for those parts that are under warranty !! Told me that even though parts are under warranty, those are not covered under warranty since Suburban did not install the unit! I called Carrier and they told me that parts are under Carrier warranty. No matter who installs the unit and who repairs it, parts are covered. This company is double dipping. Charging their customers for the parts that are under warranty and pretty sure getting those parts back from Carrier! Stay away from these scammers. read more

Had another company out who told us that it was a duct problem and that the whole lot would have to be replaced and then would not answer emails or calls (they had recently upgraded the system for the previous owners). One of the most unethical company that you would work with. Horrible customer service. They rip off their clients and don't really care. They charge by hour whether they fix the problem or not. The first time the maintenance guy came in spend 3 hours to clean up a brand new system. The second time they sent a technician because the heat shut off. He spent 2 hour to fix it. Then 2 days later the problem came back again. Called them back and they are already asking me to pay another $450 to fix it. This company charged me more than $1000 for nothing and my brand new HVAC system that they installed is a wreck and broke down after 2 years. They charge $159/ hr. They were very rude on the phone and no work ethic or customer service at all. Finally they were suppose to come in to fix the outstanding problem and no one showed up. It's freaking 10 degrees out snd we have no heat!! Shame on you !! read more

I just had a new gas furnace and central AC installed. I started with calling for an estimate. I first spoke with Beverly who answered the phone. Beverly was very courteous and took her time in answering a few questions before scheduling an appt. with Kenny for an estimate. Kenny arrived on time with a face mask and gloves on since we are in the covid pandemic. He was very pleasant and courteous. He explained the whole process to us. There was no heavy marketing involved with his visit. We received an estimate a few days after Kenny's visit. I found Suburban HVAC estimate to be reasonable and a good product. We hired them and an appt was made within 2 weeks. The day of installation the two installers came wearing masks. They were here for about 7hours/day for 2 days. They were quiet, courteous and left each day with a clean work area. I am very pleased that I chose Suburban both for their product and professionalism. Extra thumbs up to Kenny who stuck with us from the beginning to the end of the project. I feel comfortable calling or texting him if I have any future problems which I don't foresee. read more

I have had the best experiences with Suburban! Last winter they came urgently in the middle of a snow storm to try and fix my gas furnace. The part was not readily available due to the age of my system. They were able to get the parts ordered from somewhere in MA and were back at my house first thing the next morning to have the issue resolved. They couldn't have been better! This year I bought a new gas furnace and central AC through the Mass Save program. Bobby was my salesman and he was great. I loved his personality. He was a real person. No scripts. I hate scripted salesmen. He was super helpful with all the paperwork I needed to fill out for MassSave and he was always available to answer questions. The technicians were wonderful! Clean and efficient. Kenny even helped move stuff in my garage (which had nothing to do with his job) so that i could pull my car in for the impending snow storm that day. Used Suburban for business purposes for several years. They were, at first, fast, efficient and reasonable. As the years went on something changed, there seemed to be a concerted effort to maximize billing. Guys would show up long before our business opened, and they would bill us for the time they sat in the truck. They would never tell us that their guy would be there early, if they had we would have made sure someone was on site to let them in to begin working. When challenged, their mindset was pretty much "that's the way we do it" without a care for our concerns of being overbilled. That's just a small sample, but there were other instances that would take too long to convey. read more

I asked Suburban HVAC in Westwood to repair a failed controller board in a York AC air handler. The air handler fan would not turn off and I knew it was a stuck relay on the control board. I even identified the control board part number which could be bought online for $150. But I called Suburban HVAC to come and fix it. So they sent a technician who spent over an hour diagnosing the problem and they charged me $295 merely for diagnosing . Understand that I was able to diagnose the problem in less than an hour. Then they quoted me $870 to replace the controller board and install a float switch. The controller board can be bought for $150. I bought the controller board for $150 online and installed it myself in 2 hours. I didn't buy a float switch but those cost $25 and are easy to install. So Suburban charged me to $295 to diagnose a problem I was able to diagnose myself and then they quoted me $870 for a job that I did myself in 2 hours with a $150 part. So I am very disappointed in Suburban HVAC's predatory pricing. read more

I had another local company (no names) come and service my Carrier HVAC unit and they couldn't figure out the problem - visit after visit... got left with a quote for $1,400 for some duct work that 'may NOT fix the issue entirely but will help the issue'... that's when I looked for a Carrier specialist and found out they were a Carrier 'President's Club' company.. Rich Vito is the MAN!! the whole team took care of me and did the duct work for much less and sent their commercial expert at one point to even diagnose the problem...these guys work as a team to SOLVE your problem and not just quote you on work that won't solve the problem!! It was winter and my two young children were saved from the cold because of this business... I had to walk up and down the stairs for about two weeks to reset my system until they came... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED these guys are honest!! hard to find these days!! read more

We worked with Suburban on two occasions. The first time we were unable to replicate the issue while the technician was onsite so we paid the $149 fee without resolution. The second time, giving the company the benefit of the doubt, we called again assuming that perhaps they would be able to resolve our new problem and revisit our initial issue. The technician was able to resolve the new issue but the 3 hour visit felt like he was maximizing billing time as he was waiting for a phone call for 45 minutes to an hour of the time on site. This call was to give the technician approval to do a "work around" until a new part could be ordered. The old issue still unresolved. This visit cost over $300. I then called the manager the next day to explain my frustration and how I felt "swindled" and he was offended by my expressing this. Then hours later I received an estimate for over $300 to replace the part, which was under warranty, and complete the job. When I asked over email what the estimate included the response was: "We do not breakdown proposals for our customers." Ironic.
