Don't buy bags of stone or mulch at national chains. It's much less expensive to buy at your local landscape company. Suburban has a good selection, good prices and helpful staff. I ordered a truckload of mulch at noon today and it was delivered by Ron at 3pm. Now looking for someone to spread it! LOL read more

I ordered my mulch Saturday morning at 9:00 AM during Memorial Day weekend and they promised me I would get it by the afternoon after lunch. It showed up two hours later at 11:00 AM. Ted, the guy who delivered the mulch, poured it perfectly into my driveway. He left enough room for a car to get by and did not get one piece of mulch on the grass. I had a landscape project that required a dingo to move 60 yds of dirt over 2 weekends. The second weekend, I decided to rent the trencher attachment as well to install 150 feet of drain tile. Unfortunately, we could not get the trencher to attach because of mechanical issues. Dave Schmitt came out on Monday morning, confirmed there was an issue, fixed it in 30 minutes, and then actually did the trenching himself! Since I'd never used the trencher attachment myself, I'm sure he saved me hours of work. Suburban thus turned what might have been a disappointing experience into a great one! When I was building my raised bed gardens I needed literally tons of soil to fill them. I looked around at all of the local suppliers and decided on Suburban because they were the closest and I was to haul the soil myself in several loads. I showed up and all of these guys in there are really cool and helpful. I ended up getting 2 yards of top and 2 yards of Michigan peat for a reasonable price. We figured out what I needed and they filled up my truck and I drove it home to shovel out into the garden, went back and did it again over and over until I was done. I dealt with them all for about 8 hours that day and it was a good experience. So, when I just rebuilt the front flower gardens and needed some stones I knew where I was headed. I went back to Suburban and checked out the supply of different landscape stones. I loved the black obsidian but it was crazy expensive. I ended up getting the beach stone for around $90 and it was more than enough to fill all of my beds. Again, the guys were very helpful, walking out to the yard with me and discussing all of the different stone options. I've been nothing but pleased with them and for me, there is no other place I'd go for my landscape needs. read more
