A war memorial isn't a celebration of war, but a remembrance of the struggle, loss, and sacrifice. This one, more than most, evokes the horrors- it's a beautiful place, but parts are jarring. I might not bring kids here till they are old enough to understand history and war fairly well- some of the sculptures are fairly vivid. I could also see a vet having flashbacks- for example, from the Huey helicopter landing (crashing?) into reeds, the sculpture of a soldier near a dead comrade, etc. Definitely not whitewashed history.

Because of those brave souls we have freedoms most other nations citizens could only dream about! We are lucky to be part of such a great nation, truly we are. On to the review though, This place is very well maintained, clean and a real joy to walk through. The brickwork on the paths is beautifully laid and has a certain elegance to it. Plenty of benches for you to sit on and think or relax. Night lighting could be better, the exhibits are lit well however, the path could benefit from a wee bit more. I do like the fact that the flag is ALWAYS in good repair, nothing pisses me off more than a tattered flag. I'd definitely recommend stopping by to see it a least once.

I found this on the internet but I couldn't find it on Yelp so I added them for the train nerds…read morelike my self. The park is relatively brand new looking on a 35 ft hill over looking six tracks in the observation area. There is wide ramps for disabled people to get up there with a covered roof and plenty of benches to sit and enjoy the action. There is a caboose and a crossing gate to build the rail theme of the park. Ample parking across the street for $1.25, park and when you leave deposit the money, even if it's one hour or five hours. You will see Amtrak trains, Metra trains and freight trains. One thing that I didn't like was the genius who put the info boards on the track side on the top of the railing which will limit the camera and video shots because they will block them, hey put them on the back side and get them off the viewing side. I actually moved to the Metra station which has better un obstructed views and more trackage in eye shot. Overall it's a nice idea for the train nerds but they obviously didn't consult train nerds who take pictures or videos which is what most of us do so the Metra station is the better option.

We were taken care of right away. The cost is about the same as everywhere else. My friend and I are experienced riders, we owned our own horses at one time. We were a little disappointed that we were not allowed to do anything more than a walk, even though the website says your allowed to canter. The guide said next time, because she wanted to see if we knew what we were doing. Afterwards, in the ring, we did a little trotting once around, and my guy did a couple canter strides.

Jackie and her employees love horses and take very good care of them. They know each of the horses so well. The horses are well fed. Jackie always watches the weather and if it's bad she will leave the horses in. Otherwise they go out every day except Sunday. The owners of the horses are very nice and we get along well. Krystal is the trail boss. She does a wonderful job with the people that rent horses for trail rides.
