One of my colleagues is from Perth and when I told her my husband and I were doing a day trip to Perth as part of our staycation, she recommended we have lunch at Fieldhouse. I love bakeries, so we followed her recommendation. The place is a lot smaller than I expected. It only has seating for 8 inside (4 tables of 2) and 4 picnic tables outside (so seating for about 16 outside). I got the Chicken and Brie sandwich ($14.75) and added a side salad for my husband and I to share ($5). My husband got the Ham and Swiss sandwich ($14.25) and we also got a cruffin ($5.25) for dessert, but ended up taking it home. Before we left my husband got an Americano to go ($3). I enjoyed my sandwich. The bread was crusty and held the ingredients of the sandwich well. The peppery arugula in the sandwich went well with the chicken and Brie. I was thrilled that the chicken was real roasted chicken breast meat (and not deli meat, lol). The aioli was flavourful but a bit excessive in quantity for my tastes. It dripped onto the plate with every bite, lol. The salad was leaf lettuce, shredded cabbage and carrots. Vegetables were fresh. I asked for the dressing on the side and it came as requested. The dressing was a creamy dressing and on the runny side. I'm glad I asked for it on the side, as I used only about a third of it. I had a bite of my husband's sandwich and it was ok, but I much preferred mine. He liked his better, so it all worked out. His was on a fluffier and softer bread. The ham was deli ham, but it tasted ok. The Swiss cheese was nippy. Service was pleasant. My husband enjoyed his Americano. We had the Brownie Cruffin at home. The pastry was flakey and delicious. The chocolate filling was like a rich chocolate pudding. It was very decadent. Overall we enjoyed our meal, but I found it a bit pricey, but I guess in today's economy, this is what you pay for sandwiches. Street parking only. (125)

Lots of home cooked favourites to be had. We both had the Big Al burger platter. Delicious homemade patty lightly spiced and freshly cooked, bacon, cheese and the works. The platter comes with fries, rings and coleslaw. A very substantial meal I must say. They have a daily special so a couple days later I dropped by with my son. He had the Big Al platter and I had the special which was a chilly cheese dog. The dog was sloppy so Al brought me a fork with it but OMG it was good. Homemade chilli too. The decor is diner style with lots of antique radios, cameras and old house hold items on the shelves. Al built and raced cars in his youth and there are lots of pictures of old cars on the walls, one with him and his wife beside his 74 AMX. A great spot for breakfast and lunch. Closes at 2pm. The Long Version: District Deli opened up around March 2025 in the space that was Bismallah Pies (was Charlie's Groceteria before that). My husband and I dropped by to pick up a sandwich to share. The sandwiches are all named after nearby streets, which really gives it that neighbourhood feel. All meat sandwiches are $13.99 and vegetarian sandwiches are $12.49. You can also build your own for $13.99 where you can choose 2 meats, one cheese, and whatever vegetables you like. We went with the build your own option. We got roast beef and prosciutto cotto, fresh mozzarella and lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled onions, pickled eggplants, and roasted red peppers, with a bit of honey mustard. The sandwich was really good. The bread was fresh, as were the other ingredients. It was a bit pricey in my opinion, but this is in comparison to other similar sandwich shops with $8-10 sandwiches (like 50 Two Sandwiches or Shorty's Sandwiches), but they are in industrial parts of town, so I get it, rent in Hintonburg is higher. Prepare to be amazed............... We had heard about his place for months and how awesome it was so we finally decided to try it out. When we got there at mid-day on a Saturday there was a line up out the door. My wife suggested we go for a walk to let the line thin out a but. We got back and the line had thinned out so we went in. They have a set number of sandwiches and you can also make your own, but we decided to try their set sandwiches. I got the Parkdale and the Holland, my wife got the Bayswater, and we picked up a Scott for my daughter. When we got home, we were nothing short of blown away. The quality of the sandwich was amazing - the bread was light and fluffy, a ton of meat, fresh veggies, great sauces, just incredible quality. More importantly, fantastic value for money. Even more importantly, the staff were wonderful - they chatted with us but kept the line moving - super professional and friendly. The quality of the sandwiches here rivals Old Tyme - no word of a lie. The bread they use is very very close to what we had in Lafayette and the quality of the fillings is outstanding.
