It's been 13 years since my last review; they're so good that they deserve an update! Such a lot has happened in that time: they were hit by a tornado, and a few years ago, the derecho ripped through the area. Jim and his wife helped hold things together in the town by doing what they do best: feeding people. They were closed for a spell until they could get things under control, then they came back! Reservations are recommended, especially on the weekends and for larger groups. Now that we are retired, we can go during the week, so we went on Wednesday. Service was great, and the food was delicious, and so is the coffee! Jim is a fount of information! We will go back. read more

Quirky little place with lots of pizazz! Wow, these guys know what they're doing! We went for brunch on a Sunday and from the first coffee they had me at hello. So friendly, and so accommodating. They even offer to make what you don't see on the menu. Lots of regulars so be sure to make a reservation. Breakfast was so tasty and you didn't need to ask to a thing. I had a Mexican breakfast quesadilla and they just brought me three different kinds of hot sauce. It's like they were in my head. Definitely worth the drive to Dunrobin. This is family run and the couple is so sweet. I took a giant curry to go for my family and we loved it. Great to have them in Dunrobin!

The heart and soul special is a great breakfast. It's large with a good variety of items. It's not your typical greasy spoon breakfast. You get grilled potatoes, fresh fruit, pancakes, excellent bacon and sausage. Their coffee is also quite good, they serve equator coffee roasted out of Almonte. Staff is always friendly. It's a fairly small place and it fills up on weekends for breakfast so call ahead to reserve a table. It's also a good place to stop for your morning coffee on the way into work. read more

If you are in Ottawa, stop by Heart and Soul Cafe! We have dreams about their heart shaped pancakes. Light, fluffy, crispy on the outside, and adorable hearts! I do not know how they do it but these are the best pancakes I have had in the states and Canada. We come from Baltimore to visit family every year and always request stopping by this cute neighborhood joint. The family run staff if always friendly and welcoming, the gift shop is eclectic, and the food cannot be beat. They even have different kinds of jam, butter, peanut butter, milks and creams on the table. Great prices and quantity. Cannot wait to come back next year! read more

Very small rural place. Welcoming service and an interesting menu. Rustic decor; some old wood flooring, tin (?) ceiling and lots of interesting things placed around to look at. Very quiet; the noise from a large group in the main room wasn't overwhelming and actually kind of welcome. Food was good, portions were decent. Mashed potatoes were very, very good, green salad was fresh and flavourful; one if the best I've ever had. We wouldn't make a special trip out here for it, but definitely a good place to eat if you're in the area. But that's just my opinion I could be wrong. read more

Super busy place, so make a reservation if you can! Amazing breakfast, I highly recommend the Mexican crepe! Chalk full of goodness, with a healthy dose of salsa and sour cream on top. Whatever you chose, the portions are huge and you won't walk away feeling hungry. Comfy atmosphere and friendly staff! And the coffee is the best I've ever had served to me in a cup (organic free trade stuff). I think you can buy a bag to brew at home! read more

I have not had their breakfast but the chicken is dry and the day I went they only had one server who was brand new. She was slow which I understood but she was very rude and so was the owner. read more

The Heart and Soul has some of the best pancakes I've ever had! They're thick, fluffy and heart shaped. It's often hard to pick what kind to get because they're all super tasty. I would strongly recommend that everyone gives them a try! read more

Just an FYI, we ordered a whole carrot cake for the holidays (hubby loves a good carrot cake, as for me, not personally my favorite cake) and WOW! I would hate to suggest they are undercharging for their holiday cakes, but they are. I'm officially a carrot convert. The actual cake was out of this world moist, and stayed that way till the cake was finished yesterday..we picked it up on the 24th, do the math. Icing was fabulous, portion was gargantuan! Great out of the way spot for lunch. Had a huge plate of steak quesadillas ($10.95) with an awesome salad. Food is very high quality but not expensive. Highly recommended. Super friendly service too. Hours are odd so check ahead of time. read more

Excellent place to go to for breakfast/brunch. Coffee is good, and plenty of refills available. Food is good and plenty of it. The breakfasts come with fruit and hash browns but the potatoes are more like small halved red potatoes. Very filling! BLT is excellent and even in winter, the tomatoes have been very flavourful. The cafe is very busy on weekends so a reservation is probably recommended. We have usually just dropped in, but this was over the winter so maybe not as busy as other times of the year. read more

I just cant recommended this place. It took over an hour to recive our food even though there were only 2 tables occupied. Once our food arived bits of it was cold and our "home fries" were just potato halves , raw potato havles. The rest of the food was tasty but nothing special and after finishing our drinks we were offered a refill that we never received. What more is there to say, okay food with a super long wait. read more

We went there for breakfast with some friends and had the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant. The service was slow, the wait staff rude. We waited over 1.5 hours for our food and when we got it is was only ok. The restaurant used to be good, I won't be going back and will not suggest it anymore either. read more
