However, I've been making regular visits out to my family in Putnam County and this has allowed me to drive by the Avon location of Raising Cane's. Today, I finally got a chance to check it out. Raising Cane's is a growing chain that specializes in chicken fingers (or tenders). That's it. That's their gig. When founder Todd Graves proposed the idea in a business class, he received one of the lowest grades because his professor said it wouldn't work. Graves persevered. Named after his labrador (literally named Raising Cane), this chain is growing with three Central Indiana locations currently (Avon, Carmel, Noblesville). As noted, Raising Cane's is based around chicken tenders/fingers in a handful of different combos. They have multiple sides, serve Coke products, and have both sweet and unsweetened iced tea. They have a two-sided drive-thru, though only one side was open at my time of arrival. You can dine inside, however, on this visit I did not. I could tell the curb cuts were appropriate, however, I won't speak to accessibility on the inside. The employees I met were friendly and helpful. I was able to upsize my drink, always a plus, and my order was accurate. I tend to prefer barbecue sauce with my tenders, however, I opted to try their Raising Cane sauce. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Raising Cane's is community minded with six areas of focus - education, feeding the hungry, active lifestyles, pet welfare, entrepreneurship, and "other" (meaning they enjoy supporting community organizations and will consider "other" ideas). While I'm not quite ready to go 5 stars here, I enjoyed the tenders quite a bit and I enjoyed the small order of crinkle-cut fries. The food quality was good and the quantity was a solid meal. Employees were great, the drive-thru went pretty darn quickly, and I have no issues with calling this a solid 4-star experience. I'll definitely be back.

It's a long post. I grew up in Chicago when I moved there in 79 a friend of mine took me to…read morePortillo's on North Avenue. Ever since that day, I have loved beef sandwiches because I moved from Georgia and it never had one I had never heard of a Chicago hot dog. Well for 30 years, I wish for a Portillo's in any of the cities I lived in. They finally started expanding and opened one in fishers Indiana. I was so excited the first six months or so it was fantastic. I'm sure a money making grubby greedy manager got in there and started cutting payroll and trying to reduce food costs. The Portillo's I knew and loved disappeared. Beef sandwiches were paltry hotdog. Dogs are being used in the morning from the previous night. It was horrible yet every time I went and had a bad experience I complained and lo and behold they would send me gift cards. I just recently moved to Orlando back from Indiana. That's a long story. I came in just last night to the airport and thought Portillo should be open and should have fairly fresh food since it's only 830. The kiosk thing was kind of hard to operate so I went straight to the counter. I ordered a big beef dipped and of course I had to open my big mouth and talk to the manager and tell them that I ate it the first Portillo's blah blah blah like these guys even care. I said I know what it's supposed to be like so make a good one dip it baby. And then, of course I added a Chicago dog for dessert. The staff at the store seemed happy. They were talking while working and it seemed pretty upbeat. My number got called. I got my package and I sat down. I ate the Chicago dog first, and I had to tell you I noticed that the wieners they're using do not have the flavor of the former Vienna, beef dogs. The flavor of the dog was about half of what I remember. Yet the Chicago dog is prepared perfectly and the wiener itself was hot and plump cold veggies, tomatoes proper mat, celery, salt I would grade it a nine out of 10. Then came the big boy. From the minute, I checked the package and started opening the plastic bag and then the wrapper this thing weighed like a pound. It was hefty. It was hot. It was wet. After peeling away the layers of plastic and cellophane there she was just a staring at me singing do wa Diddy.... Could've probably use a little more hot peppers since they charge $.99 now but you know let's try it. Lo and behold it was just like a 1979 beef sandwich from North Avenue. It was great. It was fantastic. I wish I could've eaten three but one was sufficient. This is the first positive review I have given Portillo's in probably 10 years. I don't know if it was a fluke. I don't know if they realize food portions are important. I don't know what the deal is and I don't care. All I know is it this store made that sandwich and that hotdog to the standard I've known hundreds of times living in the Chicago area. Somebody must've gotten hired or transferred to teach people the Portillo's way. I'm a very happy customer. Kudos to the young man who prepared it. Kudos to the man who trained the young man. Kudos to the manager, who has staff being happy while working. And I will definitely try Portillo's in Orlando my new again home as soon as I get back. I might even go to Fisher today just to see what the deal is and verify that things have finally changed. Good job. Now start cleaning got time to lean. You got time to clean! Thank you for one great experience out of the last 15.

I understand Portillo's is one of those fast food joints anyone is magnetized too be it for a birthday cake shake, Italian beef or even a Chicago dog. We weren't looked specifically for a Portillo's but since one just happened to pop up while driving through Avon we said sure, why not! This location is just like all the other ones. Super consistent with the general feel and the staff also did a great job welcoming us there. After grabbing an Italian beef to take a trip down memory lane, it was devoured quickly while enjoying a soda and fries. Highly recommend this location. Whether going through the drive thru or eating there the food will leave you happy.

The one important thing I would say, is that when you place an online order, they don't mark which dish is which. I had a bowl with sweet potato noodles, some veggies and the Korean crispy chicken. The flavors were good, but the thing that struck me was that some of the items were essentially cold and others were lukewarm, but none of it was really hot. I think it's an inherent property of what they do. They never "grill" or warn all these items together. It would be much better IMO if all the items were stir fried or thrown on a grill quickly together to warm up the dish and meld the flavors. That said the Korean crispy chicken was flavorful and the noodles were a highlight, and seemed to be like Thai glass noodles I've had before. My dining partner got a bowl with the same noodles, some veggies and the salmon. She really like the salmon, and said her bowl was good. The restaurant was clean, the workers were very welcoming and helpful on informing how to pick bowl items, etc. Parking was very easy. Of course they accept all the standard forms of payment, including tap to pay, etc. Overall, if you like interesting yet potentially disparate flavors together in the same bowl, you will likely enjoy BIBIBOP. We had already eaten a few bites when I remembered to take the pics (Apologies).

This location is almost smack dab on the line between Avon and Indy. It's set off to the side of Meijer's parking lot, though it has a decent-sized space once you get there. Sonic is known for its "drive-in" option - the ability to pull up with a retro-vibed ordering screen and carhops who will bring the food to your car. There's also a drive-thru, which I utilized, for those in a bit of a hurry. Because I seldom make it to Sonic, I always forget how it works. The drive-thru made it pretty simple, though in retrospect I kind of wish I'd gone for the Sonic experience. I really only wanted a snack, in this case tater tots, and a drink. In this case, I opted for a large iced coffee. While Sonic is generally known for being economical, I thought it was a bit high (I honestly don't remember the exact price - I just remember thinking it was more than expected). The employees were friendly. The line moved a tad slow, though it wasn't bad. I thought the iced coffee was a bit chintzy - yes, I'm glad there was lots of ice, however, it definitely wasn't close to filled to the top. You had to really put the straw in there to get to the coffee. The tater tots, a Sonic fave, were delicious. I ordered a medium order. Overall, this was a solid mid-range experience for me. Would I return? Sure. Would I go out of my way to return? Probably not. Sonic has a menu that is both somewhat traditional in terms of fast food and a bit unique in terms of defining its place in the fast food world. Now that I know this is here, and I missed it for a long time, I'll no doubt return when I'm in the mood for more than a snack.
