So I am not exaggerating when I tell you that the trip-tip sandwich is fantastic! The meat is…read moretender and well-seasoned, quite lean but still unctuous. One gets a generous portion and the sandwich was big enough for my husband and I to share with a side of tasty sweet potatoe fries (a bit extra - or you can get plain potato fries for no extra charge). We also got a side of the creamy coleslaw which is ok and even better if you add salt and a dash of malt vinegar (it needs acid imo). I didn't take a photo of the sandwich because so many other yelpers have already done so. But trust me it's worth the stop. Service is super warm and friendly, the place is spotlessly clean, and I am a fan. We liked the sandwich so much we ordered another to go for lunch the next day. I only wish I had room for pie! They offer a wide selection of pies and I've gotta think they are yummy too. Next time.

On a road trip, my friend Denise and I were looking for a convenience store in roads that were not…read morepaved with cement nor were they in the center of a chic boutique and a hits-the-spot every time boba shop. Yes, we were basically on dirt roads that saw a few scattered homes here and there, and visible old school phone towers (the brown kind) connected with wires (where crows sit on a row) existed, and not much else. We drove around in some circles, looking for this fabled store and found nothing, not even a Bigfoot. We noted how the moment felt like we were on an Iowa highway because we saw expansive fields and experienced a Middle-America atmosphere. I wanted a small stalk of wheat in between my teeth. As we drove, we saw this place and decided that this joint would replace the store we were looking for. At this point I started to listen to Carry on My Wayward Son by Kansas. If you know, you know. As soon as I entered I felt like I had stepped into a diner in the middle of nowhere, the type of spot where brothers talked about saving people, hunting things, you know the family business. My friend Denise did not know what I was talking about and when I tried to introduce the world to her with corny prompts she decided not to play along. Still for a fan the experience was nothing but a win!(chester). I cannot remember the person who helped us but she was a server who reported that she had lived in the surrounding area for most of her life. She was deepening the believe that we were on a route diner neglected by city reality. During this visit, I had fried okra for the first time in my life. It was weird to taste but not in a bad way. More like I had never tasted this texture before in my life. The texture that I had not tried before in my life was a gooey vegetable. Like the texture of the outside was exactly as advertised--- fried goodness. The actual okra was the gooey part. I do not want to sound crass, truly, I do not, but it did feel like enjoying something slimy, and I will leave it at that. Again, not wrong, just weird But I will not get it again. The server- the homegrown one- gave us fried pickles and these were much more to taste. Like, I i have had fried pickles before and I loved them but I had some that were not for me. But these, these, were pickle spears fried to brown goodness, and the mixture hit green- which does not mean go, more like Hulk enjoys, instead of smashes. It was a simple dish yes- green spear pickle fried but sometimes the goodness of a county fair is exactly what a roadtrip snack should be. The fair came to my table and I am not mad at that. On this trip I did have the Willow Dip which I feel is a close cousin to a french dip. What this place did well, at least I think, is putting it on an onion baguette. I am not sure if onion baguette is a middle-of-nowhere bread, but, I allowed it because the taste of the bread was, like tailored made for me, I am a sucker for onion, and not just because it gives me sexy breath. The food was standard, solid fare. Everything was just good nothing wrong with it, all good with it. The sauces were tasty, and added smoky sweet flavor that was welcomed. So this elevated the dish by addding a hickory taste. It did not save the dishes, but did make them better. The decorations were texas heavy. I should have taken more pictures. But sometimes the imagination allows for a space to feel more than at it is.

I arrived around 5:15pm and there were a couple of cars in the parking lot. I expected to see patrons in the seating area however, it was empty. Their hours are 6am to 6pm so I felt kind of bad showing up 45 mins before closing. The staff was very kind and friendly and didn't show any signs of being bothered that I was there. I was out by 5:30 to take my food home. I ordered a Jr. Cheeseburger for my son, nothing on it, just meat and cheese. I didn't specifically say "no sauce" so it did have some thousand island type sauce on it. Honestly, my son had no idea and ate almost all of it before he opened it and saw it and suddenly didnt like it. (He liked it, he just doesn't like things to be different) perfect size for a child's burger. A little bigger than a McDonald's burger. My husband ordered the pastrami which comes with pickles and mustard. He added Swiss cheese and says it could have used a little more than what they added. According to him it was good, but nothing remarkable and it had plenty of meat. No negative comments. I had the bacon cheeseburger which came with chopped lettuce, tomato, pickles, and that Thousand Island type pink sauce. The burger was good, it had the taste I was craving. That flat grill char really hit the spot. My burger was drippy. There was one large tomato slice that fit the entire burger. I had to drop some of the lettuce out because it kept falling out anyway and I wanted to have more of the other flavors pop. There was about two slices of bacon and only 3 pickle chips. I personally love pickles so I would ask for extra next time. I also ordered a large fry and large onion ring to share. I preferred the fries over the onion rings but both were good. I like BBQ sauce with my onion rings but I was not a fan of their BBQ. I don't know how to explain the flavor. It was a runny sauce and had almost this Mexican spice flavor to it. I mixed some ranch with it and I liked it better that way. I also ordered a piece of baklava. They said they get other from someone who makes it at home. Risky? Maybe. Worth it? Oh yeah.

Whenever I drive to Los Angeles, this is the one place I look forward to stopping at for delicious, homestyle food. It has become a tradition for me to visit both on my way to LA and on my return to the Bay Area. The staff is always warm, polite, and welcoming--they truly make you feel at home. There is usually a bit of a wait, but that's because they prepare the food fresh, and they never disappoint. The quality, taste, and consistency make the wait worthwhile. I only wish they would open a franchise in the Bay Area! Until next time, keep growing and serving the same fresh, delicious food. Please continue maintaining the excellent quality that makes this place so special. My rating of this establishment is 10 STARS

On the road between the Bay Area and LA, I found a perfect excuse to get some "unhealthy" food because this restaurant is located conveniently off the freeway. The interior is nicely decorated: cheerful colorful, spacious, and clean. Bathrooms are close by and pleasant. I ordered with the app about ten minutes ahead of arrival and my order was ready when I got there. The lady at the counter was friendly and welcoming. So I'd say service was excellent. The two of us shared two items from the $6 menu: a 3-piece spicy chicken (two thighs and a breast) and a spicy chicken sandwich. Food was hot and fresh and delicious. The sandwich came in a soft, light bun; and the piece of chicken breast was scrumptious, moist, and tasty. The spicy fried chicken was meaty and tender. At $6 each, I would say that it was a very good value. Will definitely stop by again next time I drive through this area.

The Location: Perfectly situated at the Buttonwillow gas station hub. It is incredibly convenient for a quick transition from the highway to a comfortable seat. The facility is a great place to take a rest and make sure your "tummy is comfortable" before the next leg of the trip. The Food: The food is consistently good--hot, fresh, and exactly what you crave during a long drive. My only piece of advice is to double-check your bag before you pull away from the window or leave the counter. While the food is "yummy," they occasionally mix up the specifics. For example, if you prefer all dark meat, you might find a piece of white meat in there if you don't check. Also they just swapped the chicken piece even though you have taken your order to your table. They should not do it as they won't know what customer has done to the food. Overall: A nice, reliable place to have a meal and a necessary break during a long trip. I'll definitely be back on my next drive down south or North!
