This visit came two days…read moreafter a similar visit to one of those golden arch restaurants in Farmington where I was disgusted by the condition of the restaurant and the inattentiveness of the staff who spent most of the time chatting with one another while debris and food waste remained piled on the floor. After a ten-minute wait at this "fast food" site, I was out the door for the last time! My faith in the future was at least partially restored when I visited Charlie's. While waiting for my order - taken by a cheerful and engaged worker - I observed the workflow in the restaurant and was astounded by the level of effort and competence that I saw in that short period. Although everyone remained busy taking care of the counters and tables, cleaning, tidying up and refilling dispensers, I noticed one young lady who had clearly mastered the art of multi-tasking. While moving from one end of the counter to another to take care of customers, she grabbed a cloth and wiped down the counters on her way. During a few moments of available time, a broom appeared in her hand and the floor was swept clean. As I was observing, I attempted to identify a manager or supervisor and could not do that. That suggests to me that the culture at Charlie Reidel's has evolved to a point where these dedicated employees take ownership of and pride in their jobs. They don't need managers or supervisors standing over their shoulders to force the work to be done. Oh, the food was delicious too.

I asked 'why' as she literally had ZERO customers in the lobby or in the drive up. She responded very snotty 'because it says it right on there'. Arby's has got to be the only restaurant with this ridiculous rule. Poor decision on corporate, but also - the employee shouldn't be in service. I get it's fast food and trust me, I'd rather have, at this point, purchased anything else but Arby's for my son. However, her attitude to customers vs explaining Arby's policy - was uncalled for. I assumed the server would ask if we wanted those ahead of time but that didn't happen. He also had forgotten my son's drink order and which my son actually had to ask him after some time "where's my juice?" My older son had ordered the s'mores waffles and it looked good when it was delivered but as I cut some of it for me to try later on, I soon realized the batter was uncooked in the middle of most of them. I was thoroughly disappointed he had eaten some of it before I discovered it was uncooked. The server throughly apologized and they remade the order which in the end, we ended up taking home with us. They also didn't take the order off the check for us which normally that would happen. For such a classy restaurant, we would think they would know how to make waffles and for more top-notch service. I think next time we will just enjoy the nice views and choose to eat somewhere else when we are in the area.

The employee working the protein station threw a skimpy portion of steak on top of the rice -- and it looked different than usual, so we asked about it. Since we don't eat spicy food, we asked if we could taste it first. He begrudgingly gave us a little cup with two pieces of meat in it. It was super spicy, so we told him we couldn't eat that. His response? He grabbed the bowl and flung it into the trash, turned around, and said "oh, what protein would you like now?" That's how it all started. From there, the attitude only got worse. When another staff member told him we were displeased with the service, his reply was "oh well, life goes on." But he still wasn't done. As we were leaving, he yelled "Have a nice night!" in a loud, sarcastic voice -- loud enough that everyone in the restaurant turned to look. He didn't say a word to any other customer coming or going. It was clearly aimed at us and meant to mock. For identification purposes since no employees wore name tags: he was tall, around 6 feet, with dark hair, working the protein station. The frustrating part is the rest of the staff were polite and professional. One employee shouldn't be allowed to drag down the whole team, but that's what happens when management tolerates this behavior. We won't be back until something changes.
