There wasn't one available in that space, so we simply asked if we could borrow a table from the adjacent banquet hall. That room was wide open, with dozens of empty tables, no signage, no setup, and nothing to suggest it was reserved or in use at any point that day. The staff refused. No explanation. Just no. We asked again. Same answer. Interestingly, another group nearby ended up with an extra table. I don't know where it came from, but it raised questions about how decisions were being made. Here is what made it hard to ignore. I have lived in Wisconsin long enough to know what normal looks like in places like this. My family does not quite match that mold. The refusal did not come with a reason. It came with a shift in tone. A kind of quiet gatekeeping that did not feel like policy. It felt selective. I am not here to accuse.
