BBQ is a gem of the American countryside dining. Partially, because the only other alternative is…read moretypically fast food. But, that would not be a fair description of this tradition: BBQ is an incredible style of cooking and spots like this represent this tradition well. BBQ 65 is conveniently located right off the interstate in a gas station in a saloon like building that has a beautiful character from the outside. Open since 2010s, this spot has started to earn its place in the BBQ world, albeit being newer to it. There is an indoor seating inside near the gas station shop aisles. The ribs are cooked well with a nice wood profile, but neither very delicate nor particularly notable for their flavor of the meat itself, with smoke notes dominating. The quality of pork itself and the slightly tougher preparation could be better to rival Alabama's best. The BBQ sauce is loaded up with vinegar, completely overpowering the meat if consumed together, although to be fair, this may be a matter of preference for some BBQ lovers. The star of the show is potato salad which was perfectly balanced on its acidity, sweetness and overall flavor. As a whole, BBQ 65 is a pleasant stop to experience some traditional southern cooking and support a local business instead of tossing money into another "by the exit" fast food chain.

The Brussel sprouts were way too salty for my taste and so were the green beans. The mashed potatoes and yam patties were good. I would have liked the bread to have been warm The service was good. Our server was efficient and the tea was good Would stop again if in the area at the right time. Lots of hometown people go there. It was friendly enough

I've run many trips to Montgomery Alabama, and I'm always looking another exciting way back to Mobile, mostly because Interstate 65 is some of the most boring road you'll ever drive, unless you're a big fan of trees. So I took a right turn I didn't intend and hit US 331 and found myself in a cute town called Highland Home, with "It Don't Matter Family Restaurant". I mean, with a name like that, how could I not stop?! So I parked on that very rainy afternoon, and went inside for something to eat. Now, this is exactly what you think of when you think of southern cooking. The menu was extensive and had everything you could want. Tables were spread out across the giant floor area, covered in table cloths. There is a buffet, for those with a large appetite. Very country, quaint and quiet. So I checked in on Yelp (Pro-tip: make sure you do this upon being seated). I perused the menu, and decided on the chicken dinner with mashed potatoes and fried okra. My waitress was friendly, and quickly took the order to the kitchen, and it arrived shortly after. This was a great choice! The chicken was juicy, and the breading was seasoned perfectly, the potatoes are the real deal, and the fried okra was some of the best I've ever had. The menu and the buffet were both full of choices, so I'm looking forward to going back and seeing what other southern culinary trouble I can get into.

We have tried other chicken joints in the south that have been much better. The flavors were lacking and the sauces were not very good. The hottest sauce - which you have to pay extra for any sauce above the ONE that comes with your meal, even when you order a bunch of tenders - wasn't even hot! It tasted like Valentina's hot sauce. It was fun to try a new spot, but we think better chicken is close by! :)

We placed an order 5 minutes before we got to the Zaxby's, we drove there went to the drive through and was told "it's not ready". Speaker goes silent......after I guess he realizes we are still sitting there says "it's not ready, can you go to the curbside pick up?" During our wait not 1 car came through the drive through so why could we have not waited at the window. We contemplated counseling our order and just ordering through the drive-through. Doesn't this defeat the entire purpose if I'm having to wait extended periods of time to get the same food? They weren't surprised of the order. There must have been special chicken for mobile orders that we were unaware of. I had to end up going inside after waiting 10 minutes in the curbside pickup. After finally being acknowledged by someone I behind the counter they asked my name and said I had a mobile order and it was sitting over by the window the whole time instead of bringing it out. Good business plans (mobile ordering) is only good if you have capable staff to operate them. Very dissatisfied with my experience at this Zaxbys and we be sure to avoid in the future.
