Great little (emphasis on "little") sandwich shop. The homemade bread is outstanding and I have always enjoyed their sandwiches. The banana pudding is also quite good. Service has ALWAYS been friendly. Depending on what time you get there, you could be waiting in line for a bit, but that's because they make the sandwiches as you order them. Also, it's a bit cramped. I wish they had more seating, but unless they were to relocate, I'm pretty sure that can't happen. I still recommend them, though! read more

We came here while passing through Montgomery on our way to Gulf Shores. I'd heard about this place's long history (open over 100 years!) and figured that combined with all the good reviews meant it had to be worthwhile. I'm glad I came! I was a little stressed about what to get cause the sandwiches in the pictures looked absolutely loaded but the menu just sort of generically lists meats (eg ham, turkey, etc) and so I didn't know what all came on them! But it turns out it's more of a build-your-own kind of deal anyway, so you only ask for what you really want on there. No need to worry about mustard if you don't like it. ;) There's pretty limited seating but there are tables and chairs both indoors and outdoors. You can order ahead, which we wished that we had, lol. The only drawback of the experience was the wait time. They were absolutely SLAMMED at around 12:15 on a Thursday. With all four lines running, it was still about a 15 minute wait to even get to the counter and order. This was made up for somewhat by the fact that the staff was so patient, kind, and considerate, respectfully answering questions, honoring requests, and providing extra napkins for our outdoor dining experience. I ordered a smoked turkey sandwich on their homemade bread with Swiss cheese, lettuce, Mayo, and banana peppers. The small sandwich with chips was more than enough for me. The turkey was super fresh tasting, no funk, and the banana peppers popped! The fresh bread was soft and chewy and lovely. Chips and a drink rounded out a fairly priced and tasty lunch. Parents split the roast beef and cheese and enjoyed themselves, too, though Mom says it's still not quite the Hill in St. Louis, lol. A step back in time is what this wonderful deli in downtown Montgomery offers. It has been here since 1901. They offer a variety of delicious sandwiches and wraps. The food is very fresh with a nice array of toppings and condiments to customize your meal. I had the smoked turkey on sliced wheat, spicy mustard, light on the mayo, lettuce, tomato, banana peppers, jalapeño peppers, onion, salt and pepper. It was a light meal with a very fresh appeal. This is the best and I mean best place in town. It tops all the high end restaurants and is down to earth and local. Their homemade bread is amazing, they are always quick, and I've never had a single issue. Their homemade cookies are also highly recommended. Subway type feel but so much better. Wow, what a sandwich! I got a small Turkey and Swiss sandwich and a chocolate chip cookie. The person with me got a sandwich as well and a banana pudding. Everything was delicious! The bread was soft and the ingredients were fresh. It was a busy lunch hour but we got taken care of as quickly as they could. Upon entering I asked my sandwich artist what the post popular sandwiches were she happily replied the Italian, the club, and the frenchelleta. All three of us ordered the most popular sandwiches. I can really only attest for the Italian but my rating for the sandwich itself is 5 stars! You are given the option between white or wheat homemade bread OR you can have regular store bought. I ordered the white homemade and HIGHLY recommend it! The bread was very light and soft. There is a generous helping of meat and your choice of condiments and toppings. Pro tip: if it is your first visit OR you a military you get a complimentary fresh baked cookie of your choice! The only reason I don't give this place 5 stars is because of their hours 10-3 Monday through Friday! However, since it is family owned I completely understand. My hubby, son and I stopped here for lunch after a morning at the museum. We heard this place was great so we thought we would give it a go. My husband ordered the Italian and me the turkey! The first time I tried Scott Street Deli, my order was incorrect. I placed my order online and indicated that I wanted onions on my Club sandwich. Not only did I NOT receive the onions, I did not receive the bacon either (how can it be called a club if there is no bacon) Fast forward a few months (today), I decided to give them another try and they failed again. I did not receive tomatoes on my sandwich, therefore, just as before, I did not enjoy my sandwich because it was not what i ordered nor fixed to my liking. I ordered the BLT and for the price I don't think this sandwich is worth it. It didn't taste bad just didn't have enough bacon. Now if you order an Italian sandwich you definitely get your meats worth. This location has 3 "sandwich chefs." One is hidden in the back right after you enter, so if you see a line head to the back. Sandwiches are one of my top 3 favorite foods. I am always looking for somewhere that does it right and Scott's Street Deli nails it. I had the Frencheletta sandwich on wheat bread and it was to die for. It was served on fresh homemade bread and had an olive relish which was very good. Also, the sandwich was loaded with meat. The service was excellent and friendly and they give you a free cookie if you are military. The restaurant is a small hole in the wall, but it is very clean and well kept. Overall this place was amazing and I will definitely be back. I just wish they had better hours. They close at 3pm and are closed on the weekends; however, this seems to be the norm for restaurants in downtown Montgomery. read more
