I go one day when the card reader isn't working. I hand the carhop a card and a cash tip. Immediately, she goes into a speech about not being allowed to "pay two ways". Believe me, writing this review is all I could do to keep from laughing at her. Most of the time, I will sit and eat in my car. Back in 50s, thankfully before my time, people used to do that. Now a carhop is almost guaranteed to stare at you. Let us not forget their inability to take an order. Unable to mention that the number 9 combo is no longer grilled, they are at least able to call it by its new name, Chicken Slingers. But order a burger "all the way" and you get a plain cheeseburger. Never did know when to say "all the way" or "as is". Hurry up and get in there before one of their games becomes obsolete. That is, figuring out how to get ketchup out of them. The secret is a good tip. Look, what can I say? I'll be back. I like burgers and entertainment.

As you might have guessed, it's a themed fancy hot dog restaurant. The dogs themselves are standard sized and delicious I ordered the "Hi Ho Silver" which is topped with cheese, ranch, jalapeño and bacon. My wife has the "Bandstand" which is a chili weiner. Both were served with home fries and both were $4.99. In addition to the weiners, they have burgers, sandwiches and salads. One kiddo ordered the "Wake Up Little Suzy" burger which includes hash browns and a fried egg ON the burger and the other ordered the "Lucy B" salad and they halved it with each other. The owners are a mother-daughter combo and when talking to them (they were very nice) we learned that the cupcakes and lemon bars were also made in house. We also found out why the place has such a goofy name. Seems there's a cartoon from the early 1900s about a "Gentleman Rabbit" called Uncle Wiggily. A relative suggested that as the name, they changed the spelling a little and... BobsYourUncle... restaurant named. I will say the same is perfect. The place is slightly odd, fantastically eccentric and a little goofy. And the food is priced great (family of 4 in and out for under $30) and is delicious. It's totally worth a trip from out of town to Luling just to eat here... and if you're driving through try and time your hunger right. You won't regret it.

I will say that Luling barbecue has a better selection of sides than city BBQ, but none were more than average. Unfortunately, the chicken and jalapeño sausage were both dry. The brisket was good, but not as good as City Market. The regular sausage was OK which makes it better than City Markets, which was really not good at all. Overall, if you're driving from Houston to San Antonio, you might have to just skip Luling altogether for barbecue. This is an older building, and the seating area and bathrooms reflect its age. Customer service here was average. No hello on entrance no thank you at goodbye.
