Ordered from the app 3 times this past week and 2/3 times the order was wrong. Unfortunately, this is not uncommon.

It's always been clean and tastes just right to me. Nice to have an option for something semi healthy and quick!

"Food, Glorious Food, Going to a deli…read more It makes me feel good, It makes me feel selly." (well, "silly" didn't rhyme, so if Ogden Nash could mangle words to make them fit his poems, then so can I) Oliver Twist from the crappy musical "Oliver!" would have a good time here. The menu has several selections of sammys for sale, both meat and non-meat. You can also pick out what extras you'd want: mayo, pickles, hot peppers, garlic, or oil (likely not 5W20). Location: On the road to Kountze. Too far to walk there from the high school, but close enough to the hospital. Several fast food restaurants within close distance. Parking lot is only one lane wide, but you should still be able to find parking. Know your limits. There are three sizes: 4 inch Skinny, 8 inch Original, 12 inch Big. The Hunny had a Chicken Club, I had Mama's Meatball. I marked mine down to 3 star because I had multigrain bread, and the strange grain taste overwhelmed everything else, and I've had better meatballs. The Hunny liked hers, and was pleasantly surprised to see bacon in there. For the less important things: Decor didn't really stand out. Service was with a smile. I joked about getting multigrain bread ("can you tell I'm from California?"), and the girl said "so's my boyfriend. He loved this one sandwich shop where he came from, and he said that Potbelly is better!" I doubt that anything can beat Capriotti's, but maybe there are selections at Potbelly that do. I'll need to investigate, heh heh. I ate at Firehouse Subs some time ago, and I think their food is better. I may have just gotten a raw deal at Potbelly this time, or maybe I should get white bread instead. Whatever. Potbelly Sandwich Shop is an option if you're in the area.

We arrived just a couple minutes after their 11 a.m. opening, and the place was already packed, a good sign in itself. Luckily, with only three of us, the hostess got us seated at a table right away. The exterior isn't much to look at, but stepping inside tells a different story. The interior has a sports bar meets old school diner vibe, with decor that gives the whole place a nostalgic, lived-in charm. We all decided on the Darrell's Special sandwich with jalapeño mayo, and it did not disappoint. Our waitress was fantastic the whole meal, constantly checking in, keeping our drinks filled, and making sure we didn't need anything else. Despite how busy the place was, our sandwiches came out in a surprisingly short time. The sandwich itself is a beast! A toasted, loaded bun stacked with ham, turkey, and roast beef (which I hear is made in-house), all topped with roast beef gravy, American, Swiss, and provolone cheeses, lettuce, mustard, and your choice of regular or jalapeño mayonnaise, of course we had the Jalapeño Mayo. The first bite reminded me of a warm French dip, but that impression quickly gave way to layers of different meat flavors, rounded out by the subtle heat of the jalapeño mayo. It practically melted in my mouth. Honestly, I wanted to finish the whole thing, but I didn't want to need to be rolled out of the building, so I boxed up the second half and enjoyed it again for dinner. Great food, great service, and now I understand what all the buzz was about.

My father was a true grillmaster. But I learned what good grilled meats should taste like. For me,…read morebuying grilled meats has always felt like a foreign concept. To my mind, it was always a DIY endeavor--partly because a host of culinary sins can be hidden under those ubiquitous, heavy-handed sauces. That said, a recent stop in li'l ol' Buna, Texas, introduced me to Black Gold Barbeque, a spot whose work stands among the best I've ever tasted. They serve it right--no sauce involved, brave enough to let the meat stand entirely on its own merits. Their sides are solid, too; you don't need fancy, overloaded sides when you're doing this well on the pit. The atmosphere hits a great balance: it's not too polished and not a hole-in-the-wall, striking that sweet spot that says they're fully okay with you making a mess while you enjoy the grub. Top that off with genuine Texas hospitality, from a fun crew behind the counter who clearly enjoy each other as much as they do welcoming first-timers. They were featured in Texas Monthly back in April 2025, which, in a state practically built on the altar of smoked and grilled meats, is more than enough to earn my attention. You can check out that article here: https://www.texasmonthly.com/bbq/black-gold-barbeque-buna/. A word of advice: it hits you with a paywall if you aren't quick with the clicks, but I've got a downloaded copy, so let me know if you run into the wall and I'll make sure you get to see the writeup. Nowadays, barbecue isn't cheap, so it's important to get a leg up on a good place to chow down. Do yourself a favor and make the trip.
