Must-try: An Italian sandwich with all of the hots (including the red hots)…read more Would recommend?: Yes, yes, yes, and yes again. I don't understand how this doesn't have thousands of positive reviews. What if I told you that between Boston and Middlebury, VT you can find a gas station with delicious sandwiches? I told my wife that, and she had 0 interest in trying them. But then she did, and immediately her mind changed. We stop on the way up and back on any trip to Vermont. It's 2 hours from Boston, and about an hour and a half from Middlebury, so it's the perfect spot for an off-highway meal. Any trip to Vermont isn't complete without at least one of these sandwiches - and if we have to skip, it's always with the promise that next time we will make sure to stop. I'm not going to say that these sandwiches are the best in the world. They're not made with impeccable ingredients, locally-sourced from farmers who care. No, what these sandwiches are are middle-of-the-country, happened-up, secret-back-deli sandwiches that will fill you quickly and happily. You're going to order your sandwich from someone who may be slightly annoyed that you're bothering them into making you a sandwich, but don't take that as a negative - they're still going to make you the same delicious sandwich every single time, without variance. You're going to be hesitant, but that's okay. Live a little and eat a gas station sandwich.

More akin to a breakfast panini, the gooey fluffy egg and cheese, crunchy bacon, and bright onions were perfectly supported by two slices of crunchy, crusty toasted sourdough. Such great flavor! The iced maple latte was a bit on the sweet side but still very much enjoyed it. TBD on the scone, but judging by how busy it was, it is gonna be great! Service: Friendly group passionate about what they do! Ambiance: Small town, comfortable bakery where I assume all the netizens gather.

I've been a huge fan of Red Hen for years. If I could live on their baguettes alone, I would. I…read morehadn't been to the cafe in several years, but found myself close today so I stopped in for a to-go sandwich. It's always been busy when I've gone, but wait times aren't very long and the staff is pleasant. Needless to say, I got home and inhaled my turkey on a baguette. The only thing I think is a little bit of a bummer is the lack of more "traditional" topping options. I like my sandwiches with lettuce, tomato, and onion. The cafe does not offer tomatoes and only has pickled onions. Would be nice to have a little more choice when building your own sandwich. That said, I'm still a big fan and would get food from there again in a heartbeat.

If…read moreyou are going between 10am-12pm, expect a wait, and possibly to use street parking because the parking lot is rather small (not easy to turn around in if other patrons are also looking for parking). That said, the coffee, food, and service are worth it! There are two seating rooms and one of them opens out to restrooms and a very small shopping/business mall. The tables and chairs are thick, heavy, rustic wood reminiscent of a country kitchen, and the acoustics are pretty good! No echoes or a need to yell to friends or family at your own table. The service is stellar! Lots of students work here and they are top notch. The food is outstanding. Their hash browns are literally the best I have ever had. They are wispy and crispy, and will not leave grease on your plate or in your belly. The eggs are always perfect, no matter how you ask for them, and the pancakes are the best you can get without making them yourself at home. They are served with a syrup, but for $2.00 extra (at the time of this posting), you can get real maple syrup instead. By the way, their coffee is not limited to regular and decaf. There is a delightful coffee drinks menu for options to enjoy at your table or to go! Tucker's also does take out, so you really have not excuse to miss this delightful place.

We were visiting the nearby Billings Farm and a staff person there recommended that we pick up…read moresandwiches at the Village Butcher (five minutes away) and then have a picnic on one of their many tables at the Farm. This was a great suggestion. I selected the House Roast Beef sandwich ($13) - with lettuce, tomato, Vermont cheddar, and garlic aioli, served on a kaiser roll. The roast beef was rare, juicy and the other ingredients helped to make it a hardy and delicious sandwich. My wife had the Veggie Lover's Delight ($12) - with roasted red and yellow peppers, red onion, lettuce, tomato, and cucumber, served on sourdough bread with a goat cheese and pesto spread. Their refrigerator cases had the makings for a simple picnic to an extravagant spread -- and everything in between. It's called the Village Butcher because it also is a butcher shop in addition to selling sandwiches. There is no inside seating, but there is plenty of outdoor tables. This is the kind of place you wouldn't discover on your own, but it makes for a great lunch spot.

We got there pretty early and were the only ones in the store, and we do have to say that the service here is impeccable. We were greeted with such genuine warmth and kindness, and the young man helping us could not have been more hospitable. Unfortunately, there's a pretty limited selection for breakfast items, but we were happy to score a spinach-cheddar turnover that had just come out of the oven. It was BEYOND--so good with a healthy amount of spinach and flaky, not greasy puff pastry shell. We salute you! (Last year we had a mushroom turnover that was equally impressive despite not being straight out of the oven.) The egg & cheese breakfast sandwich was a little more dull in comparison--still good, but could have used more seasoning and pizzazz. Anyway, we think it's probably better to come here for lunch to get a heartier meal because sandwiches seem to be their thing. We're looking forward to trying one on our next visit. Either way, a great place worth visiting if you're in Woodstock.
