Today -when the guy who made my sandwich called my name to pick it up, he was so nice and said thank you so much I really hope you enjoy it and let me know if I needed anything - (again, it took over 20 minutes to decide) I just found out , the guys name is Nick because as he was walking passed my table, he just asked how everything came out - That's some really great service - Also everything I have ever ordered is so fresh and tasty with so many diffrent flavors. (I LOVE THAT) - so I'm not a big review person but just wanted the managers to know they have great staff and they are doing something right to keep good staff. Lots of NH themed gifts and cards etc. This is a quintessential little town market and deli where locals can run for a quart of milk or whatever. They offer bubble tea, smoothies, Vietnamese coffee, bahn mi, fresh rolls, bun (vermicelli bowl), pho and ramen. I ordered a chicken bun, my friend got a Cajun chicken banh mi and we both got Vietnamese coffee. You can watch the bahn mi being made and when the fresh roll is cut open you can see the steam come out of it from still being warm. All the ingredients are very carefully placed into the roll and it's wrapped to go. My friend ate hers while we waited for my bun so she could enjoy the fresh warmth of the roll. She loved it! My bun was great too with fresh, crisp veggies, chicken, vermicelli, basil, cilantro and topped with chopped peanuts & Sriracha because I wanted it spicy; it also came with a yummy sauce on the side. The asparagus were blackened. After being sent back twice, the salmon was warm, not hot. The pub food may be good. They looked like little hot dogs. We go to a ton of breweries and this is the worst pretzel experience we have ever had. Also, the waitress told us the mustard was the beer cheese and vice versa. The fish was crisp, flaky, and satisfying--the kind of pub meal that's hard to improve on. The service added just as much to the experience as the food. Our waitress was also tending bar and happily shared the story behind both the historic inn and the restaurant's unusual name. As we learned, "Onion" is actually an affectionate nickname for Bermudians, a nod to the island's once-famous onion exports. Since the owner is half Bermudan, the name fits perfectly. She was one part bartender, one part server, and one part docent, and it made the whole experience that much more enjoyable. Onions is a little quirky in all the right ways, with good food, welcoming people, and a setting that feels like it has stories to tell. If you're in the area--whether you're heading to a concert or just passing by on I-93--it's well worth the stop. Five stars.
