We are new to Suffield and stopped by to set up appointment. We were turned away by rather rude desk clerks stating they do not take new patients. We have owned many animals over our 70 plus years and have NEVER had a vet refuse an appointment. We go by this place every day and never see more than a few cars in he lot. Must be walk-ins? Went to another vet to set things up and were greeted with smiles and welcome. How can Suff.Vet be so rude. read more

I tried to bring my dog back to this veterinarian after my dog condition arisen again and they said it was nothing they could do for him. They said that I should bring him some place else. I'm a pay customer just like everyone else I don't think it's fair to say that to a paying customer. They said we have discussed it with the doctors and said to me that we've done all we can do for your dog. They could have just said we are all full and not taking anymore dogs until next week. I will never bringing my dog back to them again in life. read more

I brought my cat in a couple of years ago to get mats shaved off (she is long-haired and I can't keep them under control.) I just wanted her to get a lion cut, nothing special, but she needed to be sedated in order to have this done. I left her, got a call to come get her, and when I arrived she was absolutely terrified! This has never happened before, because if she is sedated, she remembers nothing of the shaving. So I got her home and she couldn't even stand, let alone walk! She was still sedated. I am thinking that she got shaved without the sedation, they realized their mistake, then sedated her so I would not know. Well, the clues were certainly there. I would not go near that place again!! Not to mention the attitude of women in the front. Very unprofessional. read more

We took our cat in for her first vet appointment and she was very scared. Especially when a very large dog and two loud dalmations entered the waiting area (she was in a crate, but stopped meowing immediately). Dr. Rothbart and his technician could not have been friendlier and made our cat feel welcome. She was so welcome that while the Doctor and technician were out of the room reviewing medical data she surveyed the entire room just like she would at home. A first rate experience from start to finish! We look forward to our next visit (although we do not want to be regular patients!) read more

I love Suffield Vet! I wouldn't trust anyone else with my little girl. All of the technicians and doctors are always very sweet, and they take such good care of my pup. It's a really nice facility, easy to get to, and They always seem to be right on time! The receptionists are OK. One of the girls (with the long dark brown hair) is not very friendly. My roommate has also had issues with this girl being rude to her as well. I always prefer to deal with Erin or the older lady. They're always very pleasant! read more

Our chocolate lab was having some issues with diarrhea. It had been going on for a few weeks. Nothing extreme, just loose stool with her regular movment...twice a day. We called the office and asked for an appointment. You call and speak with a receptionist. I'm not sure if this person is a vet tech or a student in veternary medicine? But they gave us advice to cut back on her mix of dry and canned food and/or to try just moistening the dry food with water as it could be her teeth. Now, we had started this mix recently because she had gotten finicky about eating her regular dry food. We didn't insist on an appointment, but should have. After a few more days, we did call back and scheduled an appointment for a week later. (That was all that was available unless we wanted to just do a drop off and come back later for her.) Anyway...after a little while trying this, we again called back and the suggestion was to try the bland diet. Boil some ground beef and mix with rice. Unfortunately, she continued to get worse and idk..two days later? we had to do a drop off visit for her. They did testing, xray and labs...as well as gave subcutaneous fluids. She was discharged with antibiotics, a probiotic, instructions to give omeprezole, and increase her feeds considerably as she had lost weight. The vet said to feed her 2.5 cups of food. The instructions on the discharge sheet were...incomplete...and she was feed quite a large dinner. =( Later that night we had to take our beloved family member to the emergency vet hospital in Windsor Ct. By the next day, despite more tests and treatment we had to put her down. The Hospital in Windsor repeatedly assured us they were in contact with Suffield about our pet and her condition, as well as her demise. Imagine our painful surprise when four days after her passing, we get a phone call to remind us that she has an appointment the next day at Suffield. We got a beautiful card with a handwritten and very thoughtful message from Dr Mizlowski at the Windsor Vet Hospital. Only a painful reminder and an Oh...sorry from the Vet tech at Suffield. My boyfriend has been too sad and broken to call and complain to Suffield. I don't believe that her loss was preventable or caused by Suffield Vet. However, I believe that they lack consideration and customer service skills, as well as someone that can operate control over the office. Needless to say, we will be finding a new vet for the soon new addition to our family and I cannot recommend Suffield Vet, any longer read more

We have been utilizing the services at this practice since 2004, and we have yet to be disappointed. Although the staff did not include anyone that was avian board certified (birds), one of the vets cared for our parrot like she was her own. Then we acquired a rescue dog, who was also welcomed with open arms. No matter the issue we experienced with our little pound dog, the staff helped us in every way possible... without trying to gouge our pocketbook in the process. Eventually we acquired a second dog, who ended up having many health issues (dietary, behavioral, etc). Again, the staff worked with us and helped us approach the issues one by one, and even gave us outside-of-the-box ideas, too. This guy is still with us and LOVES to be at the vet. Seriously, he jumps up and gives them all kisses on the mouth - he loves it there! Many years later, our wonderful rescue (original dog) eventually had to be put down due to cancer, and this was the only place we saw it fitting to do so. The caring and compassion that took place during such a tragic point in our family's lives was incredible... and still unforgettable to this day (nearly three years later). Suffield Vet even asked if we wanted to bring the second dog along to accompany the sick dog during this difficult time. At first I was hesitant because this was such a difficult time for all of us, but I'm glad we did because he seemed to understand what happened. Another fantastic suggestion made by the staff. And would you know, I even received a hand-written note from Dr. Huntingdon regarding our sweet girl's passing on. It truly was like a note from our family, whose understanding of the situation was clear. Yes - we tried other practices. Some were located much closer to our home. Some had different specialties... some we just tried on recommendation. Now that we know the type of care and respect that Suffield Veterinary provides in comparison to those other places, we will never again stray from our Suffield Veterinary family. And they *really* are family! read more

My dog is petrified of going to the vet (he's a rescue & we don't know what happened to him in the past) and it is always an obstacle to have to bring him in (he won't let anybody touch him or look at him, starts flailing uncontrollably, etc.). All of the vets at Suffield Veterinary Hospital have been more than accommodating in terms of understanding this about him, working with us to find ways to treat him, and getting him the help that he needs in a way that isn't traumatic for him. They have also been really great all of the times that we've called in with questions/special situations. I highly recommend Suffield Veterinary Hospital. read more

I don't even know where to begin. I brought my cat, Nina, in today for an appointment because she was having trouble going to the bathroom- she keeps re-visiting her box to go no. 2. It takes a couples times of visiting the box and she is able to go. Well, I go in with my cat, and check in after speaking with a nicer older woman that is sitting closest to the door (I've spoken with her before and have always really liked her). I sit down and attend to my cat who is really crying. Another women comes in after me and is waiting to pick up her pet. The receptionist (vet tech?) with the long blonde hair, seating in the middle chair at the desk, precedes to watch a video on YouTube with another coworker on their cell phones, making the woman wait! Are you kidding me?! Meanwhile the girl all the way to the left, with the long brown hair, gets off the phone with a client and starts trash talking the client, calling her crazy. (So if you called this afternoon to Suffield Vet to talk about reproductive options for your pet, I hope you're reading this, because apparently they honk your nuts and don't want to fedex anything for you, whatever that means). Where am I? This is not the Suffield Vet I've gone to before. So they call me in (late) and I go in. They don't introduce themselves and proceed to yank my cat out of her carrier. I can't believe what I'm seeing, but she's fine when she gets out. Let me stop here and say why the hell wasn't I scheduled with the vet I've seen five times before and knows my animal? Isn't that the point of a vet instead of using a walk-in clinic? We move on with the appointment. I explain to the vet the problem- that I think it's taking longer than usual for my cat to go to the bathroom. Instead of focusing on her digestive tracking the vet starts talking about her joints, suggesting X-rays and recurring anti inflammatory prescriptions. I said what are you talking about, she's agile and fine. The vets says she's not moving around much right now. She's terrified! You just yanked her out of her warm carrier! So, the vet, seeing that I'm not buying her joints being the issue, starts pushing prescription food on me. Hold up- are you interested in my wallet or the root of the problem? The vet dismisses me, tells me to change her food, and puts me on my way. Doesn't cut her nails or take a fecal sample. What is there is a larger problem her instead of her food? You're not going to check and see if she has a bacteria problem, infection? Okay, great, nice meeting you Dr. Whatever-Your-Name-Was. So I leave the room and I'm face to face with the snotty receptionist again. While I'm standing there waiting for them to finish gossiping and typing away, they check in two people that walk in while I'm waiting, and check out someone who finished after me. My cat is crying again because this huge dog is barking and I'm fuming. I said to the girl with the long brown hair, excuse me, can I please check out and pay? And she's like I just got your chart, one second. Right, so the guy who walked out of his room with his huge dog just gets to leave without the nurse walking up his chart up and I have to stand here being ignored? Nice. All and all I paid $59 for a sick visit consultation that lasted less than ten minutes, my cat is traumatized and not properly treated, I caught attitude from two know it all receptionists, and was pitched a bunch of expensive shit for no reason. So if that sounds like a good time to you, and you don't want to be valued as a client, bring your pet here- I give you my blessing. read more

I will start off saying that it is really rare for me to complain or write a negative review. But, I must express that I will never bring my pets back to the Suffield Veterinarian Hospital ever. The veterinarians that I saw lack compassionate, and have a dictator type of style (very cold and black or white strategy). Not all dogs (or people) respond to this. They do not listen to the client, who lives daily w their dog & is advocating for their dog that can't speak. Instead, they focus on what the they believe it is or isn't. No follow up. Could care less. The instructions on the medicine was different that what the vet tech told me to do. They noted every little "behavior" my dog and/or I made in my dogs file. Their priorities are not about helping the animal. I have since brought my pet back to its original vet, and it was such a wonderful relief to know I was in good hands again. My dog now has to overcome the fear of veterarians, but my old vet made him feel very comfortable. And we hope we are now on the right track of him healing. Which is what really matters. read more

Brought our dog there for a second set of shots, saw an assistant mentioned an issue to them about our dog thought maybe one of the doctors could stop in for a minute to look at something nope make another appointment. Well that would be okay but you can never get an appointment that's coninsides with your schedule....... Hardest place to get an appointment. Always an issue....and the individuals who answer the phone, no personality and I have to agree with another review some of the doctors are cold. read more

We've used Suffield Vet since moving here 5 years ago and I wouldn't go anywhere else. Our dogs receive the best care here. The vets and techs are always available to answer questions. I can't say enough about the empathy and care we received when it was time to say goodbye to my old dog. read more

Very rude receptionist. I called (on a Thursday) to make an appointment for my bunny (she needed to have a lump removed). I asked if the vet can see my bunny next day (Friday). She said that the doctor is not in, but on Monday the doctor is. Then I asked if i can set up an appointment for an exam on Monday. SHe said let me talk to the doctor and i'll give you a call back. I WAITED AN ENTIRE DAY TO GET A CALL BACK, BUT SHE LIED, NEVER CALLED BACK. So i had to find a different doctor. I called Bolton Veterinary Hospital that turned out to be very professional. In conclusion do not use Suffield Veterinary Hospital because they are not even capable to make an appointment or call you back. read more
