I love PAW. When looking for a vet I called several and PAW was the most reasonably priced (boy do we appreciate that). And they were easy to schedule with. The staff is , incredibly kind and professional. They met my boyfriend's shepherd mix when I brought her for a nail trim. Lacy was very anxious but not only did they take their time, they were so kind and truly gained her trust. I just brought her for another nail trim & a Lyme disease vaccine (several months later), and Lacy was not shaking this time. They were again patient and loving towards her. I will be bringing her again for her second Lyme vaccine next week. I recommend PAW very highly. They will love your pet and are in this for the right reasons. read more

All the staff and the Vets are genuine and caring here. I brought my rescue dog, she was 10 years old and they saw her prior, so I stuck with them and they were wonderful... even during my loss 3.5 years later. They gave me clear quotes and options. Dr Frishman and his staff were exceptionally attentive to our 7 year old pup who suffers from arthritis and excellent at explaining everything to me. It was like a spa day for our pup... manual massage, a massage gun , acupuncture and a Liberala shot. My dog felt so better the next day. He went from hobbling around on 3 paws before our appointment to practically jogging in a couple of days. This place has become garbage. My cat has been coming here for almost 9 years. I watched this vet assistant try to weigh my cat; I watched very closely. She claimed my cat bit her. He did not. Then she brought in vet who then claimed my cat has a history of biting. He does not. They wanted to make him sleep for a simple annual exam and rabies shot. Not going to happen. They even raised the price since last time. I was about to pay close to $500 for a simple check up and shot. If you're so afraid of being bitten, wear thick gloves. It's a cat you wimps. The vet was visibly shaking out of fear. How pathetic. Choose a different profession. No one else has ever said my cat bit them. I think they were lying just to charge more money to dope him up. Skilled, compassionate vets and caring techs, they are wonderful with my large and occasionally cranky cat. They don't push extra tests, but try to find out why he's feeling poorly with basic hands on exam and questions. They are also good about putting us into a room when the waiting room has barking dogs. They were also very gentle snd patient with my younger cat who is scared of everything. I don't know how that star was given but I give them 0 stars.I brought my healthy 21 month old French bulldog in for a flu shot in June of 2024 and he died in their inhumane care.While we were in the waiting room Winston started to shake with anxiety. I pointed this out to the young girl working there and escorted Winston down the hallway asking to go in the back room with him for support. I was met in the back by 2 other techs who wouldn't allow me to go in with him. I still see that vision of him looking back at me in fear before they took him in and closed that door.What I was told and after seeing the video Winston on a leash was clawing the tile floor trying to get away from the tech after that he went into the corner and urinated and defacated. He wanted no part of this and at that instance they should have stopped the appt and brought him out to us but they proceeded to muzzle him and with his anxiety and lack of air became limp. They didn't know how to administer emergency CPR and called another practice to find out. My baby was gone now. They asked us to come into a room where they told us something had gone terribly wrong, Winston had passed! To make matters worse they brought his dead body into a room and asked us if we were interested in a casket. We told them no so they put him in a temporary box and asked us if we could bring our car around the back so the other dog owners wouldn't see this spectacle.Nice place ,no to us it was an inhumane slaughterhouse. Not Meeting Veterinary Standards of Care People bring their pet to a vet for many reasons. Routine check-ups, vaccines, acute illnesses, etc. This practice needs to learn people don't bring their pet to a vet to be over-tested or overcharged. Several previous reviews have commented on the unnecessary ordering of tests. I share this impression, as well as the significant mark up of procedures as a money making venture. I should have compared to other vets before agreeing to two dental extractions which cost over $2200. Labs are meant to augment a careful history and exam. This practice is run very differently. They push for labs at short repeat intervals, and then charge a ridiculous amount. When you question them about the labs, the answers are evasive or non-explanatory. In the past I had a vet who cared for K9 police dogs. That practice was competent, fair, and trustworthy. PAW is a far cry from these standards. The front desk staff and techs are hit or miss. The vets seem kind, but sloppy medicine and overcharging should be a rare exception and not the rule. read more

This is the only vet we'll take our dog to. They are thoughtful of both the pets and the people. Our dog gets overly excited around others and they always go out of their way to make him comfortable while keeping him separate from others. They provide excellent care; they get down to his level on the floor and examine him in about as friendly a manner as can be done. We really get the feeling they care about him and he seems calm with them. For humans, they don't gouge. In general, pet care is not cheap, but we always receive competitive pricing and the staff frequently finds coupons or rebates for some aspect of medicine or treatment. They don't rush things and they are prudent in their recommendations for our dog's care. We are happy to have PAW as our dog's vet; these people are great read more

I live in east Hartford area but I'm willing to drive 40 mins to take my dog to PAW. Why? Because they are the best and I only want the best for my dog. My dog had a dental surgery at PAW and had his chipped back tooth removed. The surgery was really successful. My dog didn't have any side effects from the surgery. He runs and eats normal right after the surgery. A complementary check was provided to make sure there is no infection and the wound heals as expected. They took care of my sweet boy Chance at the end of his life and they kept us informed of everything they were doing so that we could make an informed decision. We went to PAW for the first time today, with an urgent problem. The entire staff was accommodating, helpful and genuinely nice. The doctor was a great guy, who got on the floor with our giant dog and made all of us feel comfortable, and was thorough and thoughtful. Dr. Shagensky guided my family through a difficult diagnosis with our dog. He was kind, patient and caring. Because of my dog's cancer, we have had to see multiple specialty vets in the area and I can tell you PAW has the nicest staff. I never had to wait more than a few minutes- which is no easy task to do with a young dog. They are clear and up front about costs and medicines before anything is done. Every time I bring my dog and cat there in addition to friends who have brought their dogs there - all have a greed that they run a battery of tests for no reason at all other than to make money. The owner corey shagensky doesn't even have the decency to ask if he can run certain tests and doesn't even tell you how much they're going to be until you get a big fat bill at the end. At the end of the visit you end up getting what you originally were going in for which was an antibiotic. The vet should be able to diagnose some issues without having to run several tests it's just a moneymaking office. Horrible because they know you're at their mercy and they know people love their animals. He also doesn't even look at prior office visits to make sure that the test weren't even run before and to simply understand the pets history it's just all about the money. read more

I started bringing my dog, Roscoe to PAW when we adopted him. I thought that the team was friendly, talented, and easy to talk to....everything one would want in a veterinary practice. It wasn't until my dog had a serious accident that I realized how invaluable the team at PAW really was. They took the time to talk to me about Roscoe's treatment, all the possible outcomes, and even called us often to see how he was doing. I'm sure another vet practice could have bandaged his paw and treated his illness....but without Corey, Katie and Marissa I surely would not have gotten through the health scare...they were supportive and understanding. The staff here are extremely friendly and knowledgable and always asks us if we have any concerns regarding our puppy. Dr. Shagensky is patient and takes the time to answer our questions and never rushed the visit. Unlike a lot of vets, he does not judge you and he tries to find solutions for you instead of saying you should have done this. We also like that he is constantly trying to compile a list of recommendations from their patients for the best daycare, dog trainers etc. for specific areas. Love this clinic. I recently moved to the area. My kitty (Mika) was not doing well with the two day travel and new environment. I was able to get an appointment within a day. The clinic staff were very attentive and Dr. Shagensky was very knowledgable. He helped me to understand Mika's behavior and provided potential solutions. Took my 7 y/o Labradoodle to PAW and was very pleased. They are extremely friendly and forthcoming with advice and help. They have a very impressive clinical set up and the office is very clean.
