I think it's definitely worth a try - just don't set the expectation bar too high after looking at the pretty pictures on social media. They are indeed big, thick donuts like pictured. The fluffy & slightly chewy and doughy texture gives me a weird satisfying feeling. However, I just feel the flavors are a bit off - it's like there's just a layer of sweet glaze on the outside. The blue/green glaze in the donuts in my order is also very runny and watery. And based on my experiences, the donuts must be finished like within a day (best to try immediately) - otherwise the glaze is off the donut. We have pre-ordered the sugar box from Sugar Cube a bunch during their weekend pop-ups throughout the city and have never been disappointed! The sugar boxes are really easy to preorder through their website and pickup is pretty painless, even if its a busier one the line usually moves quickly. They have inventive and unique flavors. Some of my favorite have included the marzipan, the cinnamon roll, lavender, and the PB&J. The flavors change and often there are seasonally appropriate and adorable decorations as well. The dough of the donuts themselves have a great flavor. And they are quite hearty and filling too! We normally get the different flavors and cut them into equal pieces to share, because its the best way to try everything! Decided to try out these donuts as they were advertising $2/donut at the Milwaukee Public Market pop-up in the parking lot. The lady staffing the booth was nice, but seemed bored and was eating a sandwich when I approached-which was a turn off for someone selling a food-based product. She didn't greet me and it was almost as if I was interrupting her. There was no signage of the flavors they had for sale and I had to inquire. They had a clear display box, but then the employee grabbed the doughnuts from plastic containers behind her. The donuts were okay--they could be your thing if you like doughy and chewy. It turns out they are vegan, which explains now why they had a unique aftertaste/smell which I couldn't pinpoint. I tried the pink glazed and chocolate glazed, I was hungry so they hit the spot. I was at the Milwaukee Public Market today with a friend and had to stop at the pop up shop to try Sugar Cube Donuts. I've been hearing about them and seeing awesome pictures of them online, so today was my day. I was a little surprised to see they were averaging $4/donut, but they're pretty large and thought it would be worth a try. I ordered the s'mores donut and my friend ordered the sprinkles donut. I was really surprised when I bit into mine that it wasn't a traditional donut base, it's actually quite yeasty. The icing or glaze on top is super sweet and, I'm not really sure how to describe it, but it's a little over powering for the rest of the donut. My friend felt the same way about hers as well. These are certainly large enough to share with several people, I don't think I'd ever be able to eat a whole one by myself in one sitting. If these donuts were bite-sized and you could get maybe 4-6 pieces to a pack instead of one super large donut that would be awesome. It's certainly a fun donut stop for the novelty of it, but if I were going to buy donuts for the office or the weekend I'd rather go to a traditional bakery. read more

I finally was able to snag a box of these pop up donuts! We preordered last weekend and pick up at the Kind Oasis was super easy. The donuts are flavorful without being cloyingly sweet. My favorites were the Peach, lemon poppyseed, and an afternoon tea donut. The puppy chow was okay but I'm not a huge fan of chocolate. Fruit Loops: stale chewy cereal. Maybe stay away from cereal on donuts? And whatever cereal that was it wasn't actual Foot Loops lol. Spicy Chai: zero flavor. Tasted like a plain glazed donut. I didn't realize these were vegan donuts. They have a great texture, fun flavors, and easy way to pick up at one of their pop up locations. The icings are flavorful, the donuts are huge and fluffy, and they are great for sharing. Love how creative the menu is and they're hefty enough to slice in half to share flavors. They're also really reasonably priced for the size. Had a great experience with the gal at the pop up even when she had computer difficulties. She was apologetic and kept the convo going while we waited. The reason I took away two stars is because I taste some sort of plastic flavor on them. We got the pre-order box for 4 different flavors and each one had that same silicone after taste.
