Great place to be when its not overly crowded, otherwise the place can be short- staffed and poorly serviced. Come here for dessert as the savory food isn't nearly done as well. One exception is their popcorn chicken, which I loveeeee. The dessert selection is huge in my opinion, averaging around $6 each. My favourite here is definitely their sago. Decided to try something new and got their Mixed fruit pearl delight The mochi was drowned a little too much in sugar and was too sweet. Good variety of fruit though: papaya, mango, strawberry, honeydew, watermelon. Overall a good place to hang out with a few friends over dessert.

Stopped by while downtown. I had the F3 and E2. The F3 was a grass jelly based mango + tapoica type of thing and the E2 was a mango based tapioca with ice cream dessert. Wasn't a big fan of the grass jelly but the ice cream dessert was good. Service was very fast, the buttons were nice at the table. They have an accessible washroom! Update: from 3 stars to 2. I had a chance to try their food menu. I had the spicy curry mix balls, their sweet salt and pepper wings, and popcorn chicken. The quality of the food was probably one of the worst I've ever experienced. For the price of around $8-9, there wasn't really any meat in the popcorn chicken- just bread crumbs and it was super oily. Would not come back for their food again.

Sugar Marmalade is so much of a hit or miss, even in Toronto. The one located in Hamilton is passable but ONLY for desserts. For actual meals, PLEASE go elsewhere. The service is always on point; consistent refills on waters, greeting you when you walk in, waving when you exit. [PLUS] They have a button available at the table you can push when the wait staff isn't around and you need something. My friends always get the mango shaved ice - it is literally bottomless and always good. I switch between the Macau Pudding for a heavier, sweeter dessert and the mango sago coconut milk soup for something lighter. DO NOT GET: - Meals - The "waffle" bubbles - they were not not not not not good at all. - The drinks are actually no good too - go to Coco's or D's The washrooms are also clean and the place is big enough that there's usually never a wait time to be seated. One star off for the fluctuating wait times for food.

Been to the Mississauga location and was disappointed, but a friend recommended this location. It was a better experience (still some complaints but I'll talk about that in a sec). Some really good things about this place, but some just ok. This place is clean, and the staff were quite attentive. Our drinks were very tasty and our apps were hot and freshly made! Really liked the kimchi fries! They were crispy and didn't get soggy from the sauce. The Taiwanese popcorn chicken was good too. It was served with sweet chili sauce which is ok, not my favorite, but went well together. The squid tentacles were really tasty too! We ordered a Japanese curry rice dish, that was NOT good. The curry was chunky and tasted old. The cutlet underneath was fine but I could not continue eating it due to the poorly made curry gravy. The dessert my husband has was F2, vanilla and chocolate ice cream in coconut milk with grass jelly... It was just ok. We weren't blown away. We ate it but could have also just left it. Would come here again for apps and the drinks, but def won't order the rice dishes again.

First time ordering a dessert. I got the fresh strawberry & pearl delight & boy was it good. Yummy textures and fresh strawberry flavour. Also the brown sugar milk tea with tapioca is so good. (Photo doesn't do justice)

Service was good however I have had better shaved ice. Pastry was pretty fresh. I'd come back to try their snacks like cheesy fries and pop corn chicken.

It's alright. Take a bit of time for the food to come out and some of the dishes don't look the way it does in pictures.

There is also a bubble tea menu which I hope to explore the next time I'm up this way. We ordered "a brownie thing" on a signature buttermilk waffle with vanilla ice cream. (They also offer green tea and charcoal ice cream flavors). As you can see in the photo, the waffle was a decent size and was enough to share (if that's what you so choose to do). The customer service was pretty good, the aroma of the fresh waffles was amazing and the interior was stylish and welcoming. I highly recommend!

There were maybe 2-3 other tables that were taken. It does seem like a really nice place to study. The place is clean, with soft lighting, and lots of outlets! We ordered a Belgian waffle, with soft serve ice cream, & the mango cheesecake as topping. The total came to $15 which was a little surprising. The food took a little longer than expected. But it came out looking great. The swirl was sesame & vanilla which had hints of both flavors; subtle and not too sweet but it was a little icey rather than creamy. The waffle was fluffy. I did not like the mango or the cheesecake as they tasted somewhat stale. Overall, I think for $15 it was pricey and I would prefer heading to Toronto for a egg waffle for $3 instead.

The place is well lit and clean. The service was quick. The place does seem to have some regulars that come in and out. My boyfriend and I got a Nutella waffle and original milk tea with tapioca. A little sad that the Nutella waffle didn't come with strawberries but does come with whip cream and your choice of (extensive) icecream. The waffle wasn't the fluffy kind but the more dense version. The Nutella was generous!!! The milk tea was average but still good. Next time I'll try their oolong milk tea for sure :) I'll definitely be back to try their crepes and different assorted desserts they have ! Parking is still somewhat of a hassle as free parking is limited.

Stepping into A&J Sugar Bowl, one instantly feels the overwhelming warmth brought in by colorful syrups on the shelf behind the counter and the wash of delight that waffle cones dotted with candies on display give you when you know you're about to take part in a guilty pleasure. The smell of toasted sugar brushes against your nose as you feel spoiled for choice. I first spotted A&J Sugar Bowl in the Winter and passed it many times on my way home from various destinations. I hadn't stepped foot in there until recently, Spring 2015. What I found delighted me to the core. Tables along one wall with a central table covered in board games, cartoons playing on the large flat screen of the parlor and an honest to goodness sweets counter displaying candies, ice cream flavors and a crepe stand. The little woman behind the counter with the soft voice and big smile, Nancy, added to the atmosphere. She was a little difficult to understand, being so soft spoken, but she understood exactly what I wanted when I ordered. The parlor has always been empty when I passed it, and it worried me, but considering that it was midnight and I only found it in the off season, It didn't bother me. I just wanted something chocolate related. I ordered a Nutella and banana crepe. It took about five minutes to make and was still toasty when it was served to me. I took a single bite and instantly asked, why is this place empty ever? From the taste to the atmosphere, A&J Sugar Bowl should be packed all the time. Then it dawned on me. It's in a part of downtown that isn't known for its good eats or entertainment. It's hidden away and it has no online presence. I urge all local Yelpers to hunt down Sugar Bowl and enjoy your favorite sweet here. Let's all make this place Hamilton's worst kept secret!

When I lived in Montreal, my go-to cupcake place (and probably my overall favourite cupcake shop) was D'Liche, which sadly didn't make it through the covid quarantine. In London, I enjoyed Chick Cake Boss and when I came to Hamilton, I went to Bitten. However, none quite lived up to D'Liche, or even the Cupcake Shoppe...until Beyond the Batter. One bite and I deemed it my new favourite cupcake place. I had been drooling over the flavour list for probably a week now and finally convinced my brother to go grab some. We ended up with an assortment of flavours that not only sound delicious but look lovely. Work fast though because my brother got to the shop about 2.5 hours after they opened and a few flavours were already sold out. He got home with the cupcakes while my sister was on a work call. We are impatient though so we decided to try a cupcake anyways and just grabbed the one we knew she'd have no interest in - Macaroon, a coconut cake cupcake topped with chocolate frosting rolled in toasted coconut. We split it and both fell in love at first bite. My brother is not a frosting fan so for him cupcakes are all about the cake and he has been raving about how light and fluffy, yet flavourful the cake was all afternoon. As for me, I love frosting and cake and the flavours were just so spot on and rich that I was happy. Often frosting/icing can be end up tasting like icing sugar above all else but that wasn't the case here at all. When my sister got off her call, we went in for a second - Men are from Mars, a chocolate cupcake topped with malt frosting dipped in a chocolate shell with a caramel centre. It sounds like a lot but once again they nailed each flavour and they all worked together so well. I normally avoid chocolate cakes but this one was delicious and I'd definitely recommend. In fact, I'd recommended everything I've tried thus far and I'm sure that opinion isn't about to change.
