We are from the SF Bay Area and were visiting for the weekend. We ordered a banana cake with banana custard and marscapone chantilly cream frosting and a cheesecake to celebrate two 40th birthdays. Both were amazing! The banana cake tasted like banana bread and the cream was nice and light. The crust on the cheesecake is the thickest I've ever seen and it was perfection. Our experience with Cakes by Grace was exceptional. I was hoping for a marvelous cake and I must say CBG hit a home run. We were celebrating my daughters 30th bday. We ordered the Swedish Princess cake. It was delicious and beautiful. I asked CBG to deliver cake to my daughters home. Early afternoon we realized we would not be home. There aren't many, since they spend most time on custom orders, but I that means the ones in the store are fresh, and change frequently with special flavors. Whenever I come in, they are different. She was extremely flexible with flavors and was helpful in choosing the perfect ones, we ended up with 4 different options (we just couldn't choose). We tasted cakes at one other location before going with Cakes By Grace, and we almost blew off our appointment at CBG. "All wedding cakes taste the same, right?" we thought. No, no they don't. We FREAKED OUT when we tasted the cake at CBG. Our tasting went so well that we ordered our cake that day, a year in advance. It was a four-tier round cake with two flavors: almond cake with vanilla custard and raspberry, and chocolate cake with chocolate ganache and mocha crunchies. They were kind and courteous throughout the whole process, the cake looked spectacular, and it was all gone by the end of the wedding. From that first visit on, every time I visited Tahoe, I stopped at the storefront to pick up cupcakes. (I'll continue to do this until the end of time.) I never thought I'd be wowed by almond cupcakes, but they are my favorite dessert now. read more

While my son and daughter-in-law's wedding cake tasted yummy, it wasn't what they requested and sadly, a huge disappointment! During their initial consultation (5 months prior to their wedding) they described how they wanted their cake decorated and even showed them a photo of a cake (Pinterest) they wanted to duplicate. Additionally, that same photo was emailed to Cakes by Grace a few weeks later. In that email, I also indicated that the bride wanted a little less greenery on the top and to add a few flowers along the side and top of the cake. The photo on the left (below) is how they wanted their cake decorated. The photo on the right is the cake they received. I added the little bit of greenery you see (at the beginning of the reception). I contacted Grace and shared our dissatisfaction and huge disappointment in the appearance of the cake. I also attached these photos in my email to her. She apologized for not including the dots and said she had no notes/record in their file (order form) about any greenery (berries, pine cones, green branches). The letters and numbers were barely on and I had to put them back in place before the reveal. Also the little beads mostly came off and the decorations were not edible. We encountered Cakes by Grace at a wedding expo, the samples were delicious so we schedule a tasting. Our tasting went very well, the cakes were moist and delicious and the frostings were velvety. We provided a couple of pictures of what we wanted for our wedding, and Grace said it wouldn't be a problem at all, they could do it no problem. They told us that there was only one spot available left for our date, and we needed to make a quick decision. As our parents were paying for the wedding, we needed to get their approval first. The estimate was a little high, but not out of line for a summer wedding. We got approval, and moved ahead with the booking. I gave the info to the parents to provide the deposit. A couple weeks later, I get a call from Grace saying they didn't receive my deposit and would release my date if it didn't come in. In a panic, I called grace and gave her my credit card to give her the deposit. She takes the info and the call ends. About half an hour later, I get another call from Grace saying the card didn't go through and I needed to give her a check. Again, panicked about losing my date, I immediately rushed a check over. A couple days later, I was checking my online banking to make sure the check went through, and I see the check has cleared AND two additional credit card charges from Cakes by Grace. I call up Grace and ask what the deal is, and she says she didn't realize that the charges went though, I can give you a check or you can apply the payment to the balance of the cake, which would be easier. I told her that was fine. Fast forward to the wedding day, cake is supposed to be delivered during the ceremony, which means I won't actually see the cake until the reception starts. Wedding went great, my husband and I are walking into the reception room, and our faces fall. In the corner is this sickly, misshapen, sad excuse of a wedding cake that looks like it was made by a toddler with some Play-doh. During our tasting, I provided pictures of what I wanted, the one included in this post (minus the middle all black tier), and they said it would be no problem. I was adamant that I wanted a clean looking cake with sharp lines. I was paying $1200 for this cake and I expected a nice finished product. The picture below shows what they delivered. I am so upset and embarrassed that this cake was at my wedding, and that my friends and family think this is what I ordered. It was the laughing stock of the wedding. It was all I could do to not burst into tears when I saw it. It still makes me tear up thinking about that ugly cake. Yes, the cake tasted good, but it seems to me that they were so overbooked on our wedding day that they threw something together last minute, almost as if it had been forgotten. We hired Cakes By Grace for our wedding and couldn't have asked for a better dessert experience. First off, 5(!) of us went months ahead of the big day for a tasting and EVERYTHING was great. Some items were better than others, but I'd happy eat any of those desserts again. We tried about 6-8 items before deciding on 3 combinations for cupcakes and the s'more pops (which are incredible!). On the wedding day, they came and set up without hardly being noticed and the layout was beautiful. Our guests were taking pictures of the dessert table before we started eating of it. People were raving about every item that we picked and at the end of the night, there was hardly anything left.
