It didn't taste quite like banana pudding but definitely banana flavor. The edges were slightly crispy while the middle was buttery and chewy. Impressive and maybe worth it as a once-in-awhile-treat. It's $3ish per cookie which beats Crumbl in both quality and pricing. They have a few unique flavors (i.e. 7up, peach cobbler, etc.) which I understand rotate on a monthly basis. I recently found myself driving to San Francisco on an early weekend morning and decided I wanted to stop at my favorite hidden gem of a cookie shop which is on the way-so I stopped at Butter Pecan Bakeshop in Pinole. This shop features cookies made with Southern recipes that mostly came from the owners grandmother,if I remember correctly.When you get your hands on these cookies,you can truly tell,the butter they must use in these cookies makes these cookies so tasty-the kind of taste that lingers in your mind long after your done eating them. This shop generally has I think 6 cookie flavors every month with 2 additional limited featured flavors rotating monthly-this time of year is unique as they swapped out a few of the regulars for additional holiday recipes-so I knew when I walked in,I was in for a treat. I decided to go with the 6 pack cookie box($23) this time-it's rare I get out here since I live in Sacramento,so decided to splurge instead of just going for a single cookie ($3.95)I went with 2 of each of these 3 flavors Southern Banana Pudding-Almond Roca-Peach Cobbler. I really really enjoyed the Almond Roca and the Banana Pudding cookie quite a bit,I would order both again with zero hesitations,but the true star of the show was that Peach Cobbler.This cookie was truly amazeballs!!!....so buttery,the large peach filling in the middle was so tasty,nothing artificial tasting about it at all-but what really made this thing standout was they wrap a good portion of the bottom with actual pie crust-I never had a cookie that was wrapped in pie crust before and man does that work well-my only regret was that I didn't get 6 of these bad boys-they were delicious!! My preference for a cookie is one that is crispy on the edge and chewy on the inside, plus the tasty butter used during the creaming process. Butter Pecan hits all of these spots for me! The brown butter pecan is just perfect for me because I'm also a pecan fan. Hint of saltiness, sweetness and not too thick like some other places. The oatmeal raisin pecan is another winner. This cookie isn't as soft as the other cookies because of the heartiness of the oatmeal which makes sense. It felt healthy! Ha ha! The apple cider cookie had a hint of apple cider otherwise it's almost like a sugar cookie. It was okay for me. I love how the cookies are warm and not slathered in frosting. I've had butter pecan always cater for events, but this was my first time going in person and checking this location out! Let me start by saying their cookies are the bomb! They are huge and made with crispy edges but so soft and melty in the middle. I would highly recommend the chocolate sea salt cookie and the cookies and cream cookie! Maybe the staff had an off day, but they didn't seem to be super knowledgeable about the cookies they were serving or prepared. Maybe they are new! But they were very kind and friendly overall! As you make your selection(s), the cookies are taken from the tray and added to your box (or bag). This part I do not like. I prefer being able to see the assortment of each cookie flavor laid in front of me.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I feel like a child, getting to pick the cookie "more caramelized" or "crispier corners." This is probably an easier process for staff, for customers I feel like it takes away from my experience that other locations offer. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There is a plastic barrier between customers and the back of the house. The walkway inside follows the barriers path, it is tight and you have to "make room" for others at the end of the process (completed their purchase) to depart.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The barrier stops at the cash register. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Although small, the quaintness personalizes the experience and makes it feel more like homemade than a store bought experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The cookie selection made was a half dozen ($23). My daughter chose her two - both Birthday, myself - both dark chocolate options (Sea Salt & Walnut) and my hubby picked Banana Pudding and Brownie Walnut. My little one's hands were immediately in the box and she devoured her selection. The cookies are soft, chewy, crisp around the edge and do not disappoint replicating its name. As time has passed, this business is like others - the cookies have grown smaller in size while the price has increased. At least the quality is still there. I remember when Butter Pecan was an online store you placed your order and had two days out of the week you were able to pick up your selections - minimum order required. Finally made my way to Butter Pecan Bakeshop a few weeks ago and had an overall good first experience. Came in on a Saturday morning and they were busy. That in itself should speak volumes to the popularity and taste of their cookies since people were buying in batches! They seemed understaffed at the time of my visit with one person, who was possibly new and almost a little overwhelmed with the busyness of the shop that day. This definitely heavily increased the wait time, but the end product of delicious cookies made the visit more than worthwhile. My order consisted of a half dozen cookies, which included: - a Peanut Butter & Jelly cookie - a Strawberries & Cream cookie - a Cookies & Cream cookie - a Walnut Brownie cookie - two Brown Butter Pecan cookies Although I didn't taste every cookie in this order since they were purchased to share, the ones I did taste were all rich, on-point to the flavor they were named after, and tasted of quality and love. It's a blessing (and somewhat of a curse) to have this bomb cookie shop just a few minutes away from home. A lot of dope dessert places with great social media presence are often in bigger cities with not-so-great parking. But not Butter Pecan in Pinole! The shop is always clean and well maintained. The workers are pleasant and there are so many options, even at the end of the day. The flavors are addicting (hence the curse part) and my Day 1 favorites are brown butter pecan, dark chocolate walnut and strawberries and cream.
