I have now visited Sugarbird Cafe two times. Both times the service, environment, tea, sconces, & sandwiches were excellent. The first visit was in Dec 29/10-AM-ish. The second visit was on Feb 09/1-PM-ish. We did their Afternoon Tea Service w/Tea sandwiches for both times. ($55/person) I booked the reservations for outdoor seating via Open Table. I've never experience anything like this, I love tea, always dreamed of having tea time with girlfriends/sister/cousins. I came upon this through a friend's Instagram post and just had to check it out. Not disappointed! I'm definitely coming back. The girlies who true it with said the same. It's a nice and serene set up. Umbrellas for shade. Their team and owner are so nice and always checking to see that everything is going well. They explain to you their menu and choices. So don't be afraid to tell them that it's your first time! All the teas we've tried, we love. Sconces are so yummy!! The tea sandwiches are also delicious! everything is all tasty. Some items are seasonal or they run out of. So I would keep that in mind. One restroom, very clean. Parking is on the street. I always find one next to them in the small lot next to their cafe on Verdugo, but you would enter through Ocean View Blvd.
Sitting down with friends for an elaborate tea service is one of my all time favorite indulgences. How fortunate that I've now experienced the wonderful tea service here twice. The weather was wildly different on the two occasions I've been here. My first visit happened to be on one of the hottest days of the Summer. Our reservation was for the outside tea service. Umbrellas provided shade. Because it was so hot, Sugarbird gave us the option of hot or iced tea, and we all chose iced. When it came time to place my tea order, I chose Marais, which is an English Breakfast tea. I chose English Breakfast Tea because, evidently, I have absolutely no sense of adventure. I mean, here's a menu of twelve different teas to choose from, including four Black Teas. And I choose English Breakfast Tea. The exact same kind of tea I drink every morning. How imaginative! It was beyond ridiculous. But the staff at Sugarbird is so chill they didn't let on how weak my choice was. Not in the least. Remarkable because I know if I was taking the order I'd be trying desperately not to roll my eyes. But the staff here are totally professional, they're all smiley and like, yeah whatever Mikey, you do you. The tea service automatically includes four fantastic little tea sandwiches as wells as tiny cakes, meringues, brownies and candied fruit. The carefully curated assortment is as delicious as it is varied. There are no weak items. In truth there are so many different treats one can not possibly hope to eat them all in one setting. If you come for tea here, and you certainly should, plan to take a box of goodies home with you. Tea service attendees get a choice of Scones. You can choose between one large or two small scones. There are twenty-two different varieties of scones, some sweet, some savory. Looking for Vegan, or Wheat Free, or Vegan Wheat Free selections? Sugarbird Cafe has you covered. The Scone menu is loaded with an amazing variety of savory scones. Black Sesame/White Chocolate. Fig Rosemary. Seasonal Apricot Ginger. Passion Fruit Coconut. Feta Chive. Orange Cardamom. All of these scream Eat Me! At least I went a little out of my comfort zone on my scone order. Typically I would order two sweet scones. But the savory offerings were so tempting I had to give one of them a try. I decided on Fig Rosemary for one of my selections. For my second choice I switched right back into my Mr Play It Safe persona and chose a Lemon Blueberry. With all those exotic sweet combinations, I go and order Lemon Blueberry. Now believe me, that Lemon Blueberry scone was fantastic. Along with the Fig Rosemary, it was among the best scones I've ever had. For real. But later that day, as I drove home from the event I kept thinking about my order, going over the menu in my mind. I'm all I shoulda tried the Apricot Ginger. Or the Hibiscus Raspberry. What was I thinking with Lemon Blueberry? I had the chance to try Passion Fruit Coconut! I mean, where else on the Mainland am I going to get a chance to try a Passion Fruit Coconut scone? Nowhere, that's where. But I could've tried one at Sugarbird Cafe. And I order Lemon Blueberry. SMDH So, all this was on my mind when I came back to Sugarbird Cafe for another tea service. My second tea service experience turned out to be on an unexpectedly cold day. We had booked far in advance and reserved an outside table. The cold weather caught us by surprise. Sugarbird graciously allowed us to move our party inside. I was determined to try something other than English Breakfast Tea this time. I decided to try the Marco tea, and I'm so glad I did. I liked that tea so much I bought a package to take home. Although I loved the ice tea we were served the first time I visited Sugarbird Cafe, I loved the hot tea even more. It just seemed to me like everything tasted better with the hot tea. For my scone choices I decided to stick with the one sweet, one savory approach that I employed on my first visit. This time I picked a Strawberry Buttermilk and a Feta Chive. I enjoyed the Feta Chive on the spot and took the Strawberry Buttermilk home. My take home box had the Strawberry Buttermilk scone and six other goodies from the treat tower of power that held all our individual servings. I love how they construct the tower of treats for the tea service. Each person's selections are presented directly in front of them. I also love how the little tea sandwiches here are made on Japanese milk bread. They're all good, but my favorite is the cucumber. I highly recommend the tea service at Sugarbird Cafe. Sugarbird, yes, please, come on have a scone with me! (Spin on an old Maroon 5 song thx to Leilani M. for adding the cool line! It's a catchy tune!) This tea Cafe is so adorable and lovely. A few indoor tables, counter full of delightful pastries and shelves with tea pots, cups, and of course tea. We had a reservation and our table was beautifully set from the napkins, utensils, tea pots, cups, and tiers of half sandwiches and treats. The cream cheese with thinly sliced cucumbers were delightful as well as the other sandwiches including turkey with cranberry. Treats were great including scones, macarons cookies, brownie bites and others. Had to take a box home. Happy for decaffeinated options! They brought us teapots of different flavors to try. The peach one was refreshing. Service was top notch. 5 stars!
Small but cute, cozy cafe with a friendly owner. On a mid Sunday afternoon they were almost sold out. My friends rave about this place and it's true, the scones are perfectly crumbly yet moist. Matcha White Chocolate scone - didn't taste the chocolate and I'm not a fan of matcha but this was great. Fairly priced at $4.75. Lemon and Blueberry gluten free scone - Also delicious. They sell pretty pressed flower jewelry and tea sets. I am definitely interested in their outdoor afternoon tea!
This was my third visit to this cute Cafe, but my first time having the full tea service. The decor, lovely teapots and cups are cute and have the vintage look and appeal, it gives the customer a wonderful experience. I can only think of a few places with a true "high tea" service. I came to enjoy an afternoon away from the usual busy routine. I didn't have to "think" of what to choose because they paired the foods perfectly. Tea sandwiches can also be bought in pre-made boxes of: cucumber & cream cheese, fig with Brie cheese, turkey with cranberry and fruit filling with Chantilly cream. At first glance, you may think that mini tea sandwiches would not be filling, but I could not finish all my treats and boxed my remaining snacks to take home. I am not a big caffeine drinker and appreciate the herbal and non-caffeine options. The food is baked and prepared daily on the premises. There is a good selection of scones, jam & clotted cheese, baked mini quiche, muffins, Meringue puffs, and brownie bites. You can shop for gifts from their collection. They will also creative gift baskets/boxes and take care of the shipping for you. Reservations highly recommended, although walk-ins are welcomed. Don't forget to tell'em that Rosemary and Te-see sent ya!!! Note: There is limited indoor seating and outdoor under umbrella patio tables.

Six lovely ladies and a handsome gentleman gathered together on a Saturday afternoon for a spot of tea. The location, Sugarbird, a charming little café nestled between Glendale & Montrose. High Tea is their focus and scones are their specialty, but coffee beverages & lattes are also available. Owner Kei makes all the scones & baked goods and tea sandwiches are made to order. The place is cozy with only a few tables inside and a quaint seating area outside. The staff are delightful, especially Sophia & Heather. They both provided excellent service during our visit. Our table set up was lovely and the vintage tea sets were very pretty. We opted for the Signature Afternoon Tea ($56 with gratuity). It comes with your choice of tea, two mini scones (or one large) with clotted cream & jam, four artisanal milk bread tea sandwiches, and an assortment of mini sweets: Mini fruit tarts, Meringue Swirls, Shortbread cookies, and Matcha & Chocolate brownie bites. My tea selection was Marcos - an herbal tea with notes of rooibos, pumpkin, & ginger. It was delightful! I chose the Chocolate Chip and Lemon Blueberry scones. Kei spent hours of R&D into creating the perfect scone and I have to say these were the most delicious scones I've had. The Tea Sandwiches consisted off: Thanksgiving Turkey Cheese, Spiced Mascarpone Cream with Pomegranate & Mandarin Oranges, Cucumber & Herbed Cream Cheese, and Mission Fig, Brie & Arugula. Each of us also got a mini wheat free quiche. The sandwiches were exceptionally good. I really enjoyed the flavor combinations and liked the softness of the milk bread. My favorites were the Spiced Mascarpone Cream with Pomegranate & Mandarin Oranges and the Mission Fig, Brie & Arugula. The mini sweets were also scrumptious, especially the mini fruit tart. I could have eaten a whole plateful. Overall, it was a wonderful experience from beginning to end. The price was reasonable, the quality of the food & tea was excellent, and the service was fantastic! This place is a gem! And what a treat to be able to enjoy a splendid tea with amazing people! I haven't been to tea since I was pregnant with my youngest, so it's been quite a while! I definitely don't want to wait that long again! The place is quaint and oh so cute! There's more seating options available outside, but the day was chilly so accommodations were made for us to be seated inside with our party. We selected several options for tea. I opted for the Marcos Herbal Tea, rooibos, pumpkin and ginger--also caffeine free. It sounded perfect for the season and it did not disappoint--absolutely delicious! The food is exquisite! We got to each enjoy 4 sandwiches: Cucumber cream cheese, sliced Chantilly fruit, turkey cranberry cheese, fig, Brie and arugula. All made on Japanese milk bread which is amazing! For scones, I opted for the lemon blueberry and the orange cardamom. Both were incredible! I can see why people visit here to stock up on scones as well! We also got to enjoy a small quiche and pastries and cookies. I was so full! I had to get a box to take some items home! Service is exceptional! I would definitely come back here again! A group of nine of us went here from our book club to try out their afternoon tea. We are huge fans of afternoon tea events and we all ended up very impressed! The service, the food, and the tea were all amazing! The staff here was on top of everything and very friendly. The food was delicious from the sandwiches to all the sweets. We had four types of tea and they were all flavorful and delicious. The scones were amazing too! I am usually not the biggest fan of scones because they are often dry. Not here. They were just perfect and full of flavor. I was really kicking myself the next day for not taking some to go. Yes, they sell mini and giant scones here and they are a hit. The location was very small so there was one two seater table inside and the rest of the tea service was outside. It ended up being windy when we went so it was chilly and there were a few scares of the umbrellas trying to make a break for it. The umbrellas ended up being put away, but they even provided blankets if needed. This was one of our favorite tea experiences overall. I heard that they might be moving to a bigger location soon.
I've been here a few times and like to frequent it for scones. It is the perfect treat to take with you to friend or family member. My favorite flavors are cardamom and fig rosemary scone. They also have a cute tea service. They have decorated the outdoors with Bridgerton vibe furniture. I'll need to come back to try it!
Tea party in Glendale, California... Our first two tea spots weren't available on 9/5/24, so I consulted my friend, Te-See... Of course, she found the perfect place for the four of us to meet: Sugarbird Cafe... We appreciated the free parking, convenient restroom, and excellent service! Sophia was our competent, friendly, knowledgeable server. She gave excellent suggestions and knew the menu inside and out! We had a beautifully set table under the trees right in front of the shop. I arrived early and set my sights on the pink teacup and saucer. The other place settings had a rose pattern and a butterfly motif. There was a bordered fabric runner across the table, floral paper napkins, two vases of freshly-cut flowers, and a turquoise-colored sugar bowl! The $56 for the tea experience, 18 percent tip, and tax covered three tiers of scones, mini-quiches, tarts, cookies, brownies, candied fruit, fresh fruit, edible flowers, and delectable sandwiches. The crusts of the tarts were flakey and buttery; the scones were moist and delicious; and the fillings of the sandwiches were high-quality goodness! We were all too full to finish, so we were each given a box for leftovers as well as takeout cups of the tea that we weren't able to consume. Note: because of the unusual 106°F weather, we had iced tea instead of hot tea. Our first round was a black tea called Koa. It had notes of rose, lemongrass, mango, and apricot. Our second round was an herbal tea named Fiona. It had essence of açai, vanilla, hibiscus, and raspberry!
Sugarbird Cafe shares the same parking lot with Schreiner's Fine Sausages. Parking can be a challenge since the lot is shared with a handful of businesses. My husband and I stopped by this bakery on a Saturday afternoon, around 3 pm. I ended up purchasing the following to go: Vegan Hibiscus Raspberry, $4.50- This was the first scone I had tried. I thought the flavors were pretty good and not too sweet. The scone was baked perfectly. Double Chocolate Almond, $4.50- Love the chocolate and almond combination. Strawberry Buttermilk, $4.50- This scone was also good but thought it was a little sweeter then the other 2. Black Sesame White Chocolate, $4.50- Of the 4 that I bought, this was my least favorite. I really was hoping this would turn out to be great because I just love black sesame but I thought it was too sweet. ------------------------------------ (Total= $18) Service could have been friendlier. I was greeted when I came in but I felt like I was being a bother to the employee behind the counter when I walked in (there was no one in line when I walked in) and tried to order. But I really enjoyed the scores that I had for the most part, and was surprised that they were still moist even 2 days after purchasing. I like that Sugarbird Cafe has outdoor seating and would consider coming back here with my dog so we can do afternoon tea.
I had such a great experience at Sugarbird Cafe. This place is the most adorable cafe with great service and great food! Decor is what I would call "Rustic Chic". They have tea service on fine china and the food on wooden tiered trays. Most tables are outside (only 1 table for 4 inside), and is located by the street on a dirt patch, so be mindful of the shoes you wear here. Please know also that there is a 2 hour time limit on the table. I was able to book our reservations on Open Table. My BFF and I arrived and were helped by the nicest lady. I didn't get her name but she offered us blankets as it was a bit chilly outside. She also provided a basket for us to put our purses into. We ordered the tea set for two which includes 2 pots of tea, 4 mini scones, and a selection of sweets including shortbread cookies and merengues. We opted to add on the sandwiches as well for an additional $22 for 8 slices (2 of each 4 flavors). I love the scones! They are crumbly yet moist, and most of all I love the flavors that are offered! They have such unique flavors like Black Sesame White Chocolate and even savory ones like Fig Rosemary. I feel like some of the flavors are Hawaiian inspired like the Ube coconut, Passionfruit, and Guava. They even have wheat free and vegan scones. Talk about catering to a wide audience. I could even take my wheat allergic kid here! Sandwiches were amazing also and can be made on gluten free bread by request. They had a couple of the traditional ones (egg salad and cucumber cheese), but they had a seasonal flavor (pumpkin), and a turkey. I loved them all. The tea they offer is also delicious and refreshing. Inside the shop is merchandise you can purchase (cards, chocolate, cookies, etc.). Sugarbird also offers catering if you want to host an event. Of course I had to purchase more scones to share with my family (and so I could try the other flavors). I will definitely be back to enjoy tea here again! Thanks Sugarbird for a wonderful girls day!
This is a cute little cafe! I parked in the neighborhood and walked over. The menu is pretty straightforward. However, their board in the store informs you of what scones are available or are only available in mini v large. My friend and I got a lot of green tea, the apricot and ginger scone, and the lemon blueberry scone, as well as the tea sandwiches. The scones were very yummy! I was a fan of apricot ginger one surprisingly! The tea sandwiches were not my favorite. The bread wasn't very soft. Also, I'm not a big fan of super creamy/cheesy things, so it was a little overpowering for me. (If you're lactose intolerant, bring Lactaid...) The environment was pleasant. We had our tea and food outside. There was only one table inside. Friendly staff. :) Outdoor seating is dog friendly. read more
We had Mother's Day tea here. I was so relieved to get a reservation 2 weeks before the date. The table is so cute. The food and tea are yum. Service was good. On the side of a street but somehow we felt like we were in our own little spot with the trees and bushes. Was very happy to be here and have already made plans to take 2 family members in the future!! read more

Cute little cafe. We tried their chai it was tasty and pot is good to share for two. Earl Grey scone and lemon blueberry both delicious. I also recommend the variety sandwich box; Something for everyone and I'm happy they use Japanese bread! Service was great when ordering at the register. I have been to several places for tea, but by far Sugarbird Cafe is one of the best! It is a small, intimate shop. Most of the sitting is outside. Most of the business seems to be on line but I like the Tea experience in person. The scones are amazing! You can get different sizes. The selection is great. Regular, vegan, gluten free, ect. You might want to book on the website only because scones and tea sandwiches go fast. The team is attentive and friendly. The owner is a lovely hard working women. The shop is clean and the music pleasant. Support women owed business! read more

12/22/22 Mainly rating/reviewing based on the gift basket we received from Sugarbird. It was such a thoughtful & gorgeous, huge basket full of goodies: kettle corn bags, coconut macaroons, matcha scones, packets of fruits & nuts, apples. These items were of premium quality & handsomely wrapped by Sugarbird. I'm fairly certain that it would be a 5 star experience when visiting the shop. I'd like to check it out someday soon: read more

Our small birthday group had a really lovely time here! We were a bit concerned because we reserved/paid ahead of time and it was starting to drizzle and get chilly outside, but we were offered cozy blankets which helped a lot. So thoughtful! The food was good, we all agreed that the quiche was our favorite part of the set. Sandwiches and scones were good quality and our meal included free tea pot refills which was amazing (I think we drank too much haha). Overall it was definitely worth the price and a great place for small get togethers. The birthday girl was even offered a complimentary scone. Would love to go back! read more
Super charming afternoon tea spot! It's very small, but mighty as the scones are some of the best I've ever tasted. Definitely go and pick up a pack! If you choose to do afternoon tea, book in advance. You also pay in advance via open table. The cafe was accommodating and seated us inside due to the inclement weather. Still, very cute inside! They have gorgeous tea ware! For the tea service, you get a preset tea tier that comes with scones (2 mini diff flavors or 1 large scone 1 flavor), assorted desserts, 4 finger sandwiches, and tea of your choice. The overall food was filling and sandwiches were good, but out of everything, the scones were the best! They are deceivingly fresh, moist, and so flavorful! I recommend the buttermilk cream cheese and passionfruit! The cafe also sells jams/jellies and creams on the side to accompany the scones. Service is impeccable. Everyone was very kind and friendly. They checked in on us regularly, made sure our tea pots were always full, and the table clean. Parking is all around either on the street or in open lots but I would recommend going on a weekday or an off time during the weekends. read more

What a wonderful afternoon I had today with a friend at Sugarbird cafe. Everything was delicious. The selection of unique and original scones was impressive, so moist and delicious. The selections of tea was really nice. They had a couple of cold tea selections... in this heat was very refreshing. The lunch tray of sandwiches and treats were sooooo very good. Some really nice touches! Such a beautiful and yummy selection of treats. The service was outstanding, just like every time I've been there. (5 times) It's a small place with limited seating inside. However, There is a nice set up outside, really cute table setting and umbrellas under the trees. Reservations are suggested. Closed on Wednesdays. Will definitely be going back again sooner than later. read more

Sweet little tea shop. Well decorated and very inviting atmosphere. The owner and cashier were very sweet. We took some time deciding what to order and they both were exceptional patient with us. I'm not a big tea drinker, I enjoy coffee so much more, but being it's a tea house, one must try the tea and scones. I decided on a cold tea drink with raspberry and I think it had hibiscus in it as well. Fortunately, the owner was able to make it vegan for me, although she said the creamy foam on top was not possible with the vegan option. Nonetheless...I was so pleased with my drink! I will order it again. Refreshing and light and delicious. It looked so pretty too. My friend had the hot tea which she seemed to enjoy as well. We also ordered two scones. Chocolate chip and a lemon berry. Both were exceptional. You can choose to order a variety pack along with tea sandwiches for a set price. Next time, I will try it that way. We were pressed for time, so we didn't have a chance to do so, but we will be back. The outside is shady so you can enjoy sitting outside. The price was very reasonable. I think the only high priced items were the jam and creamed butter. It was $3.00 each. I think it that was a bit much, but I believe it's homemade and everything homemade is always better and made with love. If you're a tea drinker, or if you just want to try this sweet little tea shop, you won't be disappointed. We will be back. read more

3 of us like to go out for traditional English tea. We've been going for a few years. So we tried Sugarbird. - THE GOOD - we got our choices of scones. And they were good. I got lemon/blueberry and chocolate chip. The clotted cream was thick like cream cheese. The sandwiches were good. There was egg salad, cucumber, turkey & cheese and a cream marmalade something. The tea was good. I got Willow Roobois. -THE NOT SO GOOD- we had to pay in advance when we got our reservation. 15% tip was added already. They screwed up our scone orders. One of us got the wrong ones. We had a choice of a table inside or outside. We chose the ONE table inside(it's a tiny place) because they were setting up tables on dirt and it didn't look stable. So being inside was tight. I dropped something and couldn't pick it up. And I spilled my tea. The fruit - strawberries had no flavor and grapes were ok. The desserts were forgettable. There were three tiny things. They did offer us two extra scones for the mix-up. That was nice. read more

We made reservations for Afternoon Tea. When we got there, our table was set up with a cute table under a shade tree. The tablecloth was so pretty & tableware set out nicely for a quaint afternoon tea! Weather was sunny and mild, which made it even more perfect. We reserved the Afternoon Tea set with no sandwiches ($25/person) since it was 3pm and we weren't going to be hungry. Each of us chose the mini scones we wanted - black sesame (my fave!), matcha with white chocolate, lemon blueberry, ube coconut. We also each chose which tea we wanted. They had a very vast variety - the standards like English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Green Tea, herbal teas like Chamomile, Lavender, Mint, and so many more selections! Our scones, cookies & dainty meringues came out in a lovely tiered dessert plate decorated with edible flower petals - a nice touch! We got a small bowl of clotted cream (like butter with heavy cream) & a small bowl of jam. Everything was delicious! Not too sweet. I like the scones with the clotted cream & dab of jam on it. Service is very good. The owner, Kei, will come by often to check in to see if we needed refills of our teas. She was very helpful and explained what each of the items on the dessert plate were. I haven't tried their sandwiches yet, but the next time I go, I will. This is the perfect place to get away for a quiet cup of tea if you're not into the Starbucks scene. With an affordable price, their tea service is absolutely amazing. Each serving includes a teapot with tea of choice, two mini scones or a large scone . The tea set is also served with finger sandwiches , macaroons , meringue , brownies , butter cookies and some fruits. For the tea , I recommend try their black tea menu if you like floral tea flavor. But their green tea menu is very special too , highly recommend Japanese sencha with roasted rice and matcha for extra layers of green tea flavor. The real star of the tea set is their scones . They have best scones in town , I had ube scone , earl grey scone, and blueberries buttermilk scone , all three have their own specific flavors , soft with right texture, not too dry and go so well with butter and jam . IT'S LOVE!!!!!!!!! I honestly haven't met an afternoon tea I didn't love, but this cute and casual find is a total gem. Just walk in for INCREDIBLE scones and--much to my delight--a quick and tasty afternoon tea with no reservations needed! Super cutesy and feminine vibes. Great for a to-go sip and snack or the sit-down tea option. It's a small place with just a couple tables inside and a few more outside, but it fits the quaint space and it was definitely enough during my weekday visit. The worst high tea service and food ever! They have terrible ambiance ( tea outside on a busy car-filled street!) They charge you an added gratuity of an 18% tip (they do not earn). I had to get up twice (since they did not come check on us although we were the only two people there) for a to-go box ( the scones were the only decent thing). Ants kept on falling into our tea. They gave me a hideous big tea pot so they didn't have to refill the water (which got cold really soon). The sandwiches were stale. One of the sandwiches I bit into had a string of blanket in it! Wow, such a great find! This was the first time I came to Montrose and I'm so glad I found this spot. It's a wonderful place to bring friends or lovers for a scones, snacks, and wonderful pots of tea. The scones are moist and full of flavor. I eat gluten free and the fact that they had gf scones was amazing! So grateful! I'd show a picture of the blueberry ginger scone I had, but I devoured it in seconds because it was that damn tasty! Let me start by saying the owner has reimbursed us 50% of our bill, which was very nice and we did appreciate that. However, I feel like you should know what you're getting when you go here because no where on the website did it say how much it was per person for the afternoon tea with sandwiches and scones. We checked in, inside and one of the young girls working there said to have a seat at that table set for 5 and we'll be right out with some water. 15 min later she came out with no water but menus. I already spoke to the owner previously regarding our reservation and order, the server had no idea what I was talking about. She said the owner doesn't communicate anything with them. She got our tea order, still no water. We asked another girl for water and she brought a large bottle and put it on the table. Didn't even pour it for us after we waited for 20 minutes for it. Tea came out and we actually really liked it. The sandwiches and dessert followed out about 10 minutes later. The trays weren't super full, they were a little sparse. We got the scones and sandwiches for 2, gluten free and 3 regular orders. The bread was a lil dry, but we actually liked everything. My dad wanted to take care of the bill, so he went inside to pay. I had no idea how much it was until later I overheard him talking to my mom. $291 for 5 people!!!!! No alcohol! I was shocked!! For tea, sandwiches and scones?! We were there for two hours total. It was $49 per person for gluten free. It was $43 per person for regular. Keep in mind, the owner did make it right and we really did appreciate it. But the service was not good, the food was ok. I just thought it would be something cool and different to do for my birthday. Just stick to ordering things separately. Don't go with the afternoon tea tiers. read more

I was looking for new places to try and this popped up on my Yelp page! I'm so glad it did! It's the cutest little tea shop! They sell everything from tea sets, tea, various drinks to scones and desserts. All of their scone flavors are great but my favorite is the Ube coconut scone and passion fruit. I also love the matcha rose milk ice tea. It was so delicious on a hot day! I will say there isn't much seating on the inside but they do have a few tables set up outside. First time trying this place out. I booked a table online but didn't mention I am vegan, (make sure you write it in the notes when you book). They were still able to put together a vegan and gluten free tea service for me and my friend. Loved EVERYTHING about my teatime here here last weekend with my dear friend. We had the tea and scones for two, opting for 4 mini scones to try as many flavors as possible. Black sesame and ube coconut were my absolute favorites! Honestly, best scones possibly ever. They were so flavorful that we barely even used the clotted cream and marmalade, which is not our norm. Woman owned, adorable interior and tea settings. Very friendly. We thankfully snagged the only indoor table on a breezy day. Parking nearby was easy. Everything here was perfect for the tea service! The scones are such unique and delicious flavors, and the sandwiches and desserts are great, too. We requested vegetarian options for two in our party of 4 when making reservations, which was easily accommodated. There are also vegan and GF options for those who need them. The tables out front are beautifully set and the cafe itself is super cute. We will definitely be back to visit again! read more

I first discovered Sugarbird during the pandemic when I ordered Mother's Day tea they hand delivered to my house. Fast forward I did a Yelp search near Descanso Garden area (five minute drive) and found Sugarbird moved to this new location. This small quaint gem serves high tea there are a few tables set up outside. Kei the owner is a gracious hostess she offered to take our photo with her phone and sent it to me. She kept checking on us to make sure everything is good. Their scones are so scrumptious my favorites are lavender and white chocolate, Earl Gray, mixed berry, and lemon blueberry. I came closer to the opening of the store before and upon a revisit, was pleasantly surprised by the gift shop options inside the store as well as how there were more people enjoying their food and tea inside and outside. I was on the go due to an errand but I got a passion fruit coconut scone that was vegan and wheat free, which was delicious and satisfying. I got it in a bag and could eat it on my way to other places. I also came back to get a matcha vanilla sparkler (with chico sparkling water) with coconut cold foam on top. I don't tend to like sweet drinks that give me a big sugar low after and this was a more lightly sweet drink but just what I wanted. Compared to more heavily flavored or sugar saturated drinks, I could get addicted to this one as a summer refresher. Definitely will try to come back with friends to see how the tea service is. read more

Sugarbird Cafe is an absolute delight! My husband and I stopped by on a little day date and had such an amazing experience. I found the cafe because I was craving scones, but I recently had to adopt a gluten free diet, and excitedly found through an internet search that they carried wheat free scones. I often keep my expectations for gluten free/ wheat free baked goods pretty low, but Sugarbird Cafe was an amazing surprise. The wheat free scones were phenomenal. We indulged in the following wheat free flavors: Matcha White Chocolate, Lemon Blueberry, and Buttermilk Cream Cheese. The flavors of all of them were incredible, but if I had to choose an all-time favorite, it would be the Buttermilk Cream Cheese. The scones are perfectly dense but not at all dry. I would go as far as to say these are the best scones I've ever had. We also got two iced matchas with almond milk (one lavender and one rose), and these were hands down the best iced matcha drinks we've ever had. The flavored syrups were so fresh and did not taste at all artificial. It was just the right amount of sweetness added to the matcha, and the drinks were truly refreshing. The service was amazing, and the shop is beautiful with lots of goodies to buy. I am so excited that I found Sugarbird Cafe, and I cannot wait for many more visits. read more
