Relaxing tea house with hangout vibes (still finding its rhythm) Stopped by Monstera Tea House and the first thing I noticed was how bright and airy the space feels. The interior leans minimalist -- lots of white, light wood tabletops, and green plant accents that match the "Monstera" name. It's a calm and comfortable space to sit for a while. They also have board games like chess, Uno, and Jenga, which makes it feel more like a casual hangout spot than just a quick grab-and-go tea shop. What I ordered: Peach Hibiscus tea with rainbow jelly 5 macarons (pistachio x2, vanilla, strawberry, and another flavor everything except caramel) Fried chicken tenders & fries combo They offer 10% off if you follow them on Instagram or Facebook, which brought my total to about $25. The Peach Hibiscus tea ended up being the highlight. It was refreshing and not overly sweet, and the rainbow jelly added a fun texture. I was a little disappointed they were out of boba, since that's usually my go-to topping. The macarons looked nice visually but the flavors didn't quite come through. The pistachio in particular tasted mostly sweet rather than having a distinct pistachio flavor. The shells were also a bit chewy with slightly uneven edges. The fried chicken tenders and fries ended up being the biggest issue. Two guests ahead of me had already been waiting around 30 minutes before I even placed my order. After ordering, it became clear the kitchen hadn't actually started the food yet. I could hear one staff member explaining to another how to make the tenders and mentioning that the process takes about 7 minutes total. Hearing that while watching orders sit unprepared made the delay a bit confusing. The couple ahead of me had ordered about 10 minutes before I did and still hadn't received their food either. The staff seemed to be enjoying themselves and chatting, which is great for morale, but the service side didn't feel very focused on getting orders out in a timely way. Eventually I decided to ask for a refund rather than continue waiting. I also noticed they sell $18 individual cakes that come in small square tins (similar to tiramisu containers). They might taste great, but visually they looked fairly simple, so the price point felt a bit high for what you see. Overall: The space itself is pleasant and the tea was refreshing. It's also nice that they provide games for people to hang out. Unfortunately, between the food delays, items being out of stock, and the feeling that the kitchen wasn't fully prepared yet, the experience ended up feeling like a lot of money spent without much payoff. This place is under new ownership, from what the barista told me, and that they take care of their employees which makes me want to support this place even more. The ambiance is nice and the customer service is 10/10. I ordered the strawberry matcha which was okay. However the creme brulee cheesecake was phenomenal! Had a great experience at the Monstera Teahouse. Didn't try any of the food, but had a refreshing matcha drink and the service was quick and the barista was friendly. The ambiance is beautiful! Lots of pretty monsteras around (just as you would expect!) and plenty of seating available too. I was so surprised to see their extensive menu and was happy to see that it wasn't completely full with a long line, as it was the middle of the day. Will definitely be back to try new items on the menu. No problem with parking and it's a great location as there are a couple of gyms and spas nearby, so it's the perfect spot to get something refreshing after a day of sweating and working out. Their summer special: mint mango honey dew was just ok (couldn't really taste mint or mango) so I suggest just ordering from their main menu. Honestly the most fire boba drinks between Tujunga to downtown. It's one of those hidden gems that people seem to just pass by because of the location, but trust me their boba is way better than those big chain locations and franchises. The teas are all real ingredients not powders and syrups. The boba is always fresh and perfectly cooked. They use high quality milk too which is great. I recommend the brown sugar milk tea and the ube taro frostie. Even if I lived far from here I would drive for their boba because of the excellent quality. It's a shame this place isn't more popular because their teas, frosties and coffees blow more well-known establishments out of the water. Prices are really fair too. I really wanted to love this place, but unfortunately my recent experience missed the mark. I stopped in and ordered a drink with boba, but ended up waiting about 15 minutes for it to be made. What made the wait more frustrating was seeing several other customers who arrived after me get their drinks before mine. When my drink finally came out, it was missing the boba entirely, even though I had paid extra for it. To top it off, the drink had hard chunks of brown sugar that hadn't been properly mixed in. Every sip was gritty, which really took away from the overall experience. I'm hopeful this was just an off day. I'd love to return and give the place another chance, especially if they're open to remaking the drink the way it was originally ordered. I was a bit hesitant at how empty this place was and awkward the vibes were when I walked in, but drinks were a pleasant surprise. When we placed an order 35 minutes before they closed and we picked up our order 15 minutes before they closed. 2 Asian/chineese/vietnamees employees told us "next time to not place an order last minute" . I don't know how I didn't know about this place sooner, it's right by my house! Boba is great! Food is okay. We got the spring rolls and bubble waffles. I would recommend putting mochi inside the bubble waffles, it would taste better. Or with some condensed milk on the side. Other than that, the bubble waffles really don't have much flavor. The spring rolls were good but I just wish it had rice noodles inside. It's too expensive for just lettuce and a piece of meat. I did like that they gave a lot of peanut sauce though! And that it's well packaged. I also got the ube taro frostie and it was so cute and yummy! The interior is also so cute, there's lots of monsteras and plants inside and makes for nice aesthetic pictures! I will definitely be back to try more drinks. read more

Cute and clean place in Tujunga hidden next to the pharmacy in the Descanso Spa shopping plaza. Monstera has a variety of unique flavors that you don't normally see in other boba shops. I went for the sea salt basil seed wintermelon, mango yogurt, mint mango honeydew, sunrise tea and Thai tea bobas. The boba texture was excellent in my opinion. Not old. Not stale. Fresh and chewy. My drink was a bit sweet even with the 50% level, so I wouldn't necessarily get it again. The other drinks I was told were not as flavorful. The mango yogurt was, though. The service is friendly. this place has become an absolute flop. i have no idea what happen because they used to be so good. the drinks were always good and the food quality was always on point. before i decided to write this review, i have given this place couple more chances and today was the day i decided to write a review. i placed a phone order for pick up. i ordered myself the Thai tea crème brûlée and a strawberry croffle. i have tried the Thai tea crème brûlée many many times and in the past it was always delicious and it actually tasted like THAI TEA. This time, it did not. when i received my drink, it did not taste like Thai tea. it was watered down, it had no crème brûlée (the yellow mix) and they put some tiny tiny bit of whip cream. as if paying for the drink wasn't enough to get a full entire whip cream instead of leaving the lid half empty. My drink looked nothing like my previous reviews. (photos attached) - it's like when you go to a smoothie shop and they make your smoothie all watery instead of being the proper thick consistency, it was just like that. - i returned back to the boba shop and had informed the girl who was assisting me that i was not satisfied with my drink. she did not care at all. did not try to help or accommodate at all. i actually had to pay for ANOTHER drink since i was unsatisfied with my original drink i had ALREADY paid for. so i ended up paying for a regular iced Thai tea. it was absolutely ridiculous. let's talk about the croffle. the first time i had ever tried their croffle it was absolutely delicious! the second time around, i received a burnt croffle. third time around, another burnt croffle. so when i placed my order over the phone i kindly asked the girl who was assisting me if she can make sure that my croffle isn't burnt and she said sure. received my croffle and it was a bit burnt. when it is burnt it doesn't taste well with the syrup and the toppings. the strawberries were good though. monstera teahouse is a disappointment to me. i was very unsatisfied today. i guess that is what happens when your business is going well and you eventually stop caring about the quality of the product you are selling. even the employees are a disappointment. not the same anymore. their energy is very dull and boring. there is no "hii welcome, how can we help you today?" it's rude not to acknowledge your customers. this boba shop is crossed off my list. read more
