TLDR: One of the best nail experiences i've ever had!! Great staff, a lovely experience, and amazing results! Explanation: Started with calling for a day-of appointment for 2 acrylic fills and they were able to schedule us no problem. The owner had me send the design we wanted ahead of the appointment so he could tell me the cost and how long it would take- LOVE the transparency! Upon arriving, we were warmly greeted by the owner and the clean, organized salon. We were offered drinks from their complimentary drink menu, which ranged from matcha to cocktails. After we chose our colors from their large array of options, we waited a bit before getting sat down, one at a time. My nail tech was precise, artistic, deliberate, and followed my inspo pic to perfection. She took great care making sure i liked each step, and upon taking creative liberties (there was no picture of the thumb), she executed perfect decisions. I love the shape, the attention to detail, and the colors! My friend's nail tech did the same for her- perfecting exactly what she wanted based off the picture and just from verbal instruction. I've never felt more welcomed in any nail salon like this before. I bonded with the owner for the full 2 hours i was there, talking about things from moving to austin to my job to our past lives in the bay area. He was working the entire time walking around asking the girls if they needed anything, cleaning each station, etc. It was hard and consistent work. The only not-so-great things: 1. The amount of time our nails took was quite a journey. We were there 2.5 hours. Granted, the nail process started late (25 min after our scheduled time) and i ended up waiting for my friend to finish hers as well, so im sure that attributed to the duration of the appointment. 2. There might have been a language barrier between my friend and her nail tech because she got charged extra for taking off her acrylics and doing builder gel when our appt was for an acrylic refill. I'm not sure what happened there but i'm sure it wasn't with mal intent. Overall, i'm more than happy with the great service, stellar professionalism, and beautiful end result. As a man, I've had manicures before, and this was a solid experience again. Convenient location right next to the EV chargers and H-E-B, so easy to stop in. Staff was professional and made it comfortable the whole time. Didn't feel out of place at all. My nails came out clean, healthy, and well-groomed. Thick gel layer that bubbled immediately when I got home. It was matte and not even shiny- inconsistent with other fingers. This is a result of rushed LED lamp use, thick layers, maybe old polish? The shortest length I've had a gel manicure last, just a couple hours- so sad. The nail tech didn't seem to care, some show was playing on his phone, another nail tech pestering him so she could use that color. It wasn't worth my energy to go back and complain- my mental health is more important- waste of money. I don't complain without suggestions. Check the quality of your polish, how long has it been on the shelf? Etiquette training for staff, refresher on how to apply gel polish so it has longevity. Good luck! read more

I think your experience will depend a lot on who your nail tech is. My roommate had a great experience here, so I booked for my first nail appointment (I've only ever done regular polish before). The color and nail art look great and are super cute but the filing, shaping, and finishing leave quite a bit to be desired. I originally asked for acrylic but was convinced to do builder gel instead ("it will be thinner and look more natural"). I agreed (I've never done this before, so I didn't have a super strong preference). First she asked if she could cut my natural nails down. I agreed assuming it was necessary. She applied gel to preformed tips and applied the tips to my nail. Because my nails were now so short the gel squeezed past the end of my nail and onto my skin. (I didn't say anything at first assuming she would fix it later. The rest of the appointment went fine except for her telling me that she doesn't even like doing nails, she prefers doing lashes but that this pays the bills. That's fine we all have to work for money. We get to the end and she starts taking me to the front when I asked about the gel under my nails on my skin that was creating a flap. "Oh I saw that but I thought it was your cuticle otherwise I would have filed it, you know how some people have long cuticles" (leaving that aside because, no you don't actually have cuticles under your nail and I know that she just just never actually looked or checked the underside of my nails). She filed a little bit under the nails, it was better but there was still a gap between the gel and the nail tip she applied. I asked about it and she said that was normal, but I've watched enough nail videos on the internet to mistrust that a bit. I didn't want to be that crazy nit picky person, so I paid and left. I'm going to try filing a bit on my own and see if I can live with it. read more

My spouse and I walked in on Saturday morning. It's Austin so we didn't have high hopes. They were so gracious and we had a short wait for mani/pedis. The ladies were so kind and so fun to hang with. There is a charm about this place. If I lived here in Austin, this is where I would have my child's wedding party get all their before wedding touch ups done. The decor is beautiful. Terrible place - I got a manicure and pedicure and they had me waiting over 30 minutes drying with a fan. I got home to find out all my nails were messed up. I called them and they said to schedule a new appointment. I trusted his word and after I contacted them about the new appointment and getting an initial "sure come by" he then changed his mind, and contacted me to say they wouldnt make up for it. Helen cut the crap out of my skin on 3 different fingers with an electric file. She even made one of the several fingers bleed while taking off my acrylic nails. She was being extremely careless and Helen was distracted too easily by chatting with a coworker while filing my nails. It hurt like a son of a gun. She continued to stick my hands in hot acetone that stung in the cuts and my nails severely. I've been here a couple times now and it's officially my regular location. Other places weren't as warm and welcoming, or did shoddy work (nails coming off too early, and even some minor infections due to lack of sanitation). NEVER here!! They do fabulous work, my acrylic sets last many weeks until I have to get them taken off, and Sammi's design skills are impeccable. She is truly an artist. I feel like I've found a hidden gem (although that might just bet be because school is out, and we went on a Saturday late afternoon). Sammi & the team at Sugarcoat are the real deal. From the moment we stepped in where we were warmly greeted, to the moment we left - it was nothing but lovely. My partner had a pedicure, which she deemed "the single best pedicure of my life". I had gel extensions (for the first time) and a pedicure. Both fantastic. Sammi helped me pick my colors (from an excellent selection of gel colors and finishes), she even helped me pick the best length AND filed them down when they appeared a little longer than I thought (even though I didn't voice it - Sammi & the team seem to have a secret power of understanding what the client wants before even we know ourselves). To preface, I hate confrontation and dealt with my experience and gave the nail tech a 20% tip. I was courteous throughout with several awkward laughs because I couldn't believe what was happening. I should've left when I walked into the door & was pressured to show them an inspiration photo- usually you can start the process while having time to look. I've never had such a gut bad feeling like this at a nail salon.... I should've trusted it. I booked online for an ACRYLIC FILL. I had a brand new set on and was 3 weeks overdue for a fill. I was in town for work (came from out of state). What did she immediately do? Place my hands in acetone (I had never had to dip my hands in a bag before so I initially thought oh this is warm water to help my cuticles). She took my new set off, and said "dip is better for you". She decided for me what to do without asking!!!! Tech asked me multiple times what color, and I showed my inspiration photo MULTIPLE times. At the end, color match was wrong. She did 1 nail with a darker gel color and then did the dip color. Someone came by to help her, and they said not to use the gel color under. She did the rest of my nails dip powder only. I had to ask 3-4 times for her to please redo the nail she put gel under because it was much darker. I asked for ombré, and I said please color more towards tip- she said "halfway will look better". Mind you, my nails are on the shorter side. I had her redo them because of how horrible they looked; second time it was something I could deal with. Length of nails are all different. I had to ask to please clean under my nails because of the crumbled hardened dip product- I was met with a laugh and "oh this is a brand new drill for you" as if I'm asking for special treatment. She was going to go through with the rest of the design (sparkles and all) but I just couldn't take it anymore. I came to this place after a rave review of a coworker who lives in the area who sees Sammi. I didn't see Sammi, but it's safe to say anyone visiting this place SHOULD ONLY BOOK WITH SAMMI. No one else is worth the time. They show designs on the TV in there and I'm almost 100% confident that they're all tagged as Sammi's designs. All in all, tech did not follow the appointment type (acrylic fill), she was inexperienced, didn't listen to my requests, and could not execute my nails like the photo. It would've been ok if it was similar, but it's nowhere near the photo. I'm used to techs being honest, letting me know if they cannot do the design. I would've been MUCH happier choosing a simple color if I knew the tech couldn't do it. I've never felt like this at a salon and I go every 3 ish weeks. I've tried others in TX while I visit for work and they're much better than this one. I won't be back. read more

My issue is that I had two people do my nails and the first woman who began my nails said my nails would be $46 for a regular pedicure with acrylic on my big toes. Then another lady comes to do my toes and polish and said it's $20 extras plus $5 for polish removal. I asked how much it would cost and it was $61 for a regular pedicure and bumpy acrylic application. I'm was trying them out but they clearly tried to get over on me today. read more

No, just no. I've had a lot of manicures in my lifetime, and this was a very bad experience. My nail technician did not know how to remove my gelx polish and started clipping away at it with a cuticle clipper. Then she made me soak my hands repeatedly in warm acetone for 30 minutes. I asked her to stop and she kept saying "just one more time" and pushing my hand back in after I said no because my skin was very irritated. This practice is not recommended by professional nail technicians. There are numerous articles about how heating acetone is super flammable and dangerous and poses significant risks to the skin of the individual as well as everyone breathing it in. read more

Typically like many, I do not like conflict, I understand that every one truly is just trying their best. But after years of returning and trying to gain a different perception. I always end up disappointed. When removing my previous nail they used a chemical that cause irratation and burning to my skin. Did no rinsing and quickly starting apply the dip. I asked for dip French tip. Showed photo for reference and ended up with very thick French tips I asked for it to be corrected to a thinner French tip. I was convinced throughout the appointment to add acrylic tips under the dip I requested, to get gel, wasnt told about the additional fees for all the add ons such as shaping $5, French tip $15, toe French tip $10 and so on and so on. She filed my nails so aggressively she filed my skin and when I began to bleed she put a thick layer of glue on my cut to stop the bleeding. The white paint was staggered and messy. Glue was left under my nails. Towards the end I had to continuously be sure to make corrections so that it didn't end up completely butchered. Getting your nails done should be a moment to relax and have self care not to feel stressed and anxious the entire process. i am again disappointed. read more
