Have been coming here for the longest time even after moving to Sumter (an hour away.) Called today at 5:16 to make sure I could be seen today, told the lady I was driving an hour & she said yes they take their last customer at 7. I walk in at 6:18 to be told (by the same lady on the phone) they've taken their last customer for the day!?!?! No "i'm so sorry we'll try to work you in" or anything!! Well... I can't say that this is my first time getting my nails done at this salon, I have gotten my nails done here 3 times and only one of the three times was I satisfied with the results. Yesterday, I decided to treat myself and give them another chance, thinking maybe it was just a bad day for my previous nail artist. The people are SO nice and kind and welcoming and very funny and friendly to talk to. But I have to say and I know it sounds harsh but these were the worst nails I have ever gotten in my life. They were SO thick and lopsided. They were uneven and not colored thoroughly. Though, I am satisfied with how kind they were when I asked for my money back and they also agreed that the nails were terrible and that they were sorry. My experience always varies, I don't have a problem with the staff. Personally they're all friendly. The varying nail quality is sometimes an issue but I've been here enough to know who I always want! Jess is by far a favorite(highly recommended) The place does need a makeover, deep clean etc. It's such a modern place but it's not keeping up with the times. Thank god they got a new couch, but under their chairs and tables are filthy. They need revamped ASAP!! The pricing is a bit over the top as well. This past time was the most reasonably priced I've got since I started going here 3 years ago. I'm not consistent because they're pricing definitely hurts the wallet sometimes. One time visiting this place was enough for me. I recently went to SugarCoat to get an acrylic set as my real nails were long but fragile and I had broken one completely off. I was also going to get a pedicure. The wait wasn't terribly long for my pedicure, however, I did notice some things whilist sitting there. The place was very dirty overall. No linings in the pedi tubs, using dirty implements or non-reusable tools, and the place just didn't seem very clean. Although my pedi turned out quite alright, the salon was also having an ant problem that day, I assume as that's what I was told, and ants were covering the towels used during the service. I even noticed bite marks on my legs when I got home where some of the free roaming ants had bitten me (see attached photo). Now on to my manicure. The tech I had recommended I get dip so we could salavge some of my length and I obliged. I showed her a picture I wanted my look to go by and she really didn't follow. The colors in dip she originally picked didn't match so then she dipped one of my nails (my ring finger) in a teal color that was not to my liking but she informed me it was "a little too late now." My other complaint with the maincure was whilist using the drill, the tech cut my cuticles several times without even much as an apology and one of my fingers even bled and the tech continued on as though she didn't notice. Very unprofessional. Now, the top coat on my dip nails is starting to peel and look dull in spots. I recently received my Cosmetologist License and overall, I will not be taking my business back here and I advise you not to either. Had to go back twice in one week for gel polish on my toes that kept cracking and chipping away. Had to go to another Salon to get a polish change, then was told that the polish wasn't dry comply through. Which caused an inconvenience bc my event that I preplanned for I was not ready due to how horrible my toes looked. Especially when I only have one day off during the week. I'm on vacay and needed my acrylics removed so I thought, why not? This is why not... they didn't talk to me at all, just asked why I wanted and then proceeded to stick my hand in a bowl of acetone. With no protection to my cuticles. While my nails were in acetone, three different people came over and checked on me to drill down the acrylics. I feel like I was just unceremoniously passed to different people who happened to get stuck with servicing me at the time. Some half an hour later and three people down, they brought out a fourth person from the back to do my simple mani. The actual service of the mani wasn't awful, but the quality?? Bleh. My nails are textured and it's already chipping.. I went 2 days ago. Also, I witnessed a pedi being done and afterward they kinda just shook? The? Towel? This salon needs some serious improvement!!!! Most of those technicians do not know what they are doing!!!!! They can't polish and my nails were chipping the very next day!!! They need to change the line of polish they are using. It seems to be low quality.... my first nail tech did a pedicure with gel polish. When she was finished it looked like my 7 year old niece polished my toes. The coat was thick on one side of my big toe and so thin on the other side. The salon owner was doing a pedicure right next to me and claimed that my toes looked good, if you saw me having it removed right after she finished polishing then obviously that was a problem. As the salon owner you should have asked what was wrong to see if you could fix the problem instead you failed to do so. And for that reason I'll never go there again. I asked to have it removed so she soaked it off and NEVER came back after I told her I was pressed for time. How rude!! The second technician came and finished me off with regular polish on my toes and nails. She was nice and worked quickly. I just think that if something does not improve they will be out of business soon. read more

I have a lot of the same complaints that the other reviews have. In the past I have only been pleased with two sets of nails after giving Sugarcoat business for many years. I tried to give the benefit of the doubt, but this was the last straw for me. Two days ago when I got my nails done at Sugarcoat, a man (who happened to be the owner) did my nails with tips and dip...he did a below average job, with not helping me find my color that I asked for, nor explaining why the color looked the way it did. The whole time he was doing my nails, I got a constant attitude and rudeness. At the end of the dip process, he gave me the option to pay before or after the topcoat was applied. When he noticed I was not pleased with my nails, he told me that he would not put on a top coat without me paying. When I left, I noticed a glob of glue and paint all over my fingers, and part of my tip hanging under my nail. I ended up taking them off 2 hours after I left because they were burning, and honestly, very ugly. Then, today, I came to their establishment, and as soon as he saw me, he rolled his eyes, and put his face in his hands. However, I put up with the attitude one last time, and got my $50 refund. They will never see me there again, and I hope they won't see you there either. I have never written a review before, but this was completely uncalled for. read more

It is hard to review this place. I have gotten good manicures and pedicures here from Tina and Jessica and I would rate them a five. There seems to be no way to request a particular person though next time I will try calling ahead. The usual routine is that someone starts the process and several will work on you before you are done. This last time I got a technician who was obviously hungry as she complained the entire time about it so she half did the pedicure and the manicure didn't even involve the obligatory swipe of lotion...just polish. The other nail salons in town are awkward because they don't speak English well. I'm usually against yelping/bad reviews, I would just not return rather than post a bad write up on a business. However, this place deserves a bad review & is no where close to 4 stars. I went in for gel nails the Sunday after Christmas while visiting family (I live in NC). This place is dirty, there were no clean towels to dry my hands after sent to the sink by nail tech 2 times to rinse my hands, dried them on my jeans, watched everyone else do the same... An employees child was running around jumping on chairs & eating a chicken leg the entire 1.5 hours I was there! Not relaxing. I asked for $35 gel nails full set, was charged $65!!! $30 extra for a so called manicure before the gel nails (a 45 second rub of lotion on my hands, ha! $15 extra for the gel nail polish (not explained by person at front desk upon arrival). Poorly shaped, extremely thick nails that are already popping off! What a rip off!!! Thought gel nails lasted minimum of 14 days. Day 7, they are popping off! Hopefully I don't get a fungus. Overall, dirty, not relaxing, over priced, poor quality nails. If you wanna watch a 4 yr old bounce around & eat chicken go here. read more

I went here in hopes of getting a great pedicure and a fresh full set! While I am aware that most people still aren't use to a male taking better care of themselves this shop just does takes the cake! I went in and told them what services I would like to receive and they told me it would be a 20 minute wait, well that turned into two hours! They took other customers whom walked in after me because they were regulars they said. So I paitently waited and was finally seated for my pedicure, I was then sat in a broken chair which would not move back and I am a guy that stands 6'1 so it's very uncomfortable to sit close up. However they moved me to another chair which then the Jets in the door bowl did not work and once I brought it to their attention they told me I couldn't get another chair! After that I felt like my time was wasted and I was really over the way I was being treated but I stuck it out in hopes that it works get better! Well my nail tech named Q she is the only person or reason I would ever return to this establishment because she did the best job and more for me and made me feel very comfortable with her andmy nails even though I get them clear she made them look just as natural and I couldn't have been any more happier with her! I wish I could give 0 stars. A friend and me went last week for the first time to get acrylics. Right when we walked in a guy goes "what do you want?" No, hey how are you. After looking at polishes we decided to get pink and white ombré. We were not told it would be an additional cost. (We've never had acrylics before). We started off with someone putting on our tips then they told us to go to someone else's station and they will finish our nails. I thought that was unprofessional. The person who put on my friends tips would stop and text on her phone, she was also walking around with no shoes on. Our nails looked very bad. We were charged $50. My friend asked for squaval and ended up with almond you can see her nail on the sides under the acrylics. Mine are very thick. We will NOT be returning. Ever. read more

I went to sugar coat for the first time about a week ago. I love pedicures and the nail art looked spectacular so I decided to give it a try. I got there around two and waited at least a hour and a half to even get in the chair (it was prom season so I'm giving them a pass there). When I got in the chair I looked at the variety of services they provide, which I must admit was extensive, and decided on the hot rock pedicure. The man who did my pedicure was all business. Honestly, I got the feeling that he hated his job. As for the actual pedicure it was nice (other than the lukewarm water). I LOVED the paraffin wraps and being massaged with hot stones. That was the best part of the entire pedicure. I decided to get nail art on all ten toes ( which ran me 15 extra dollars). The art was cute, but once again the lady that came to do it was all business. I tried to make small talk with her and she was not having it. Ignoring customers? Not a smart business move. The pedicure was around 60 dollars total. The 15 dollar paint job I got chipped the next day (and to be fair they did have gel polish so I could have opted for that). All in all it was ok. I feel confident that people go for the nail art, which was cute, but poor customer service all the way around. read more

I received a $25.00 gift card for Christmas so I decided to try them out. I had a callous remover pedicure with regular polish and a manicure with gel polish. I had one nail that had broken so I asked for one acrylic nail to be placed on that one finger. I was shocked that even with the gift card, I still had to pay $65.00! I think the prices are not in line with other salons I have used. I was pleased with the work but not the cost. I also was unhappy that the salon was not clean. The equipment is either old and not pleasing to the eye. The massage chair I sat in did not work. I will not be going back. Clean salons and fair prices are important to me. After leaving a $10.00 tip, I spent $100. Way too much for what I had done. read more

First off, the place is very cute. The decorations are pretty and it's a cool atmosphere. There are some really friendly nail techs who work here. That's why I wanted so badly to love it. I've been to Sugarcoat a few times but I've been disappointed with my acrylics each time. Every time I've gone, the nails began popping off within the first week. I didn't know if this was because my natural nails were weak or flimsy, but then the same thing happened to my friend's nails. I had to take my business elsewhere because the quality was not worth the price. I've gotten my eyebrows waxed and pedicures done as well. Pedicures were nice and very relaxing. The eyebrow wax felt very rushed (in and out of the room in less than five minutes, no exaggeration), and I'm not sure the woman who waxed me even washed her hands. To me, that's just protocol for touching someone else's face. I really wish I could like this place more, especially since it's right down the road from where I live, but I am extremely satisfied with my new nail salon and don't foresee myself returning to Sugarcoat. read more

I normally am extremely satisfied by the customer service but when mom is away the baby mice will play. Let's start with the most inexperienced nail girl Jessica (Tech she aint). This unprofessional spot said she didn't want to work on my nails & disrespected me to another young tech (I will hold out on her name because she was bamboozled this time). But what Jessica didn't seem to realize is, nobody wants you doing their nails Boo!!! You are a waist of money. Let's just say if you like thick bumpy nails that's your girl. This salon is not like any other nail salon I've been to. It seems they cater to teens, really. If you are looking to get an expensive DESIGN on your nail(s) and don't really care to get any of the other things you should get when getting a manicure- like pushing back & clipping cuticles, filing/evening out nails, etc, then this is your place. Even the pictures they post on Facebook of the nails they have done make me embarrassed for them. There is always polish all over the cuticles (that they obviously haven't paid any attention to) I also felt very shuffled around my entire experience (3 different manicurists) and the whole thing made me feel like I was a nuisance to them. Very unorganized- would be a real asset to the business if they hire a receptionist so that all the workers don't have to stop what they're doing to answer the phone, greet customers, and cash out customers.
