Amazing bird store. Full disclosure I'm not usually a big fan of indoor birds. You say I find it either sad or annoying Because they're deprived of flying which is pretty much the coolest thing about being a bird. But I went in there and I have to admit they have some beautiful birds birds and they were talkative and kind of cool. They have 3 or 4 EMU's outside they came up to The fence. I'd never been that close to an EMU they make a really unusual sound that almost sounded like a not much sounded like a person hitting a bucket. read more

You're only open 3 damn days a week. I called earlier in the week and was told you'd be open Thursday & Saturday. I drove 90 minutes!!!!!!!!! Gas is not cheap!!! I get here on a Saturday and sign says you're closed. WTF?????? Over 100 miles and 90 minutes wasted. Wasting my damn time. Sign outside says a "private event". We drove past the place for years without giving it much thought. After recently acquiring a bird, we were interested to stop in and check it out. WOW! It's a bird-lover's paradise! Even if you don't keep birds, this place is like a zoo with many different species and unique feathered friends. PROS: Great selection of bird toys, food, treats, cages, supplies, baby birds, toy-making materials, and more. They have classes on toy-making. They also offer grooming (nail, beak trimming and wing clipping) and boarding services. We were able to get our bird DNA sexed as well. Prices are great, and staff is very helpful and kind. CONS: Limited hours make it hard to have an impulse trip. Plan ahead! read more

I really enjoy frequenting this family owned bird store. They have a good selection of food for a variety of birds, plenty of play-things, and have their own nursery room. I love walking around and seeing the many bigger birds on display, and interacting with them. I have my cockatiel's wings and nails clipped here regularly and am happy with the prices. They have watched my bird Buttercup for me also, for a miniscule $5ish a day. He came back home to me looking healthy. He wasn't happy but I think that's more of me abandoning him rather than mal- or poor treatment on Sugarcreek's part. I'm a happy, returning customer. read more

Sugarcreek Bird Farm is the best place in the SW Ohio area for pet birds and supplies. They have limited hours and are BUSY. The people who call about a specific breed/species and sex with some crazy fantasy bird in their head and then complain later are not very intelligent. You don't pick your bird by color or type or sex, your bird picks you! You have to spend time with them and find out how friendly they are and which ones are hand-fed. They all have very distinct personalities! We have a conure from them who is a few years old now and doing great and are picking up another bird in a few weeks because it is still on formula and being hand-fed. The employees are extremely knowledgeable and very helpful, but please come on a Monday or Thursday if you want to spend some time there - Saturdays are BUSY. I will NOT buy a bird from anyone else. We LOVE Sugarcreek. Bird prices are fair, but some birds are rare and expensive - especially hand fed ones. Also if you need a cage, this is the best place by far - great prices and selection! read more

I called for a baby ENGLISH budgie. I was told there were 5 available but I had to hurry because they go fast. I drove hours to get there and was introduced to 5 darling, obviously young baby budgies. I thought they looked too small and questioned them about their size. The woman showed me their parents (which I later found out were definitely NOT their parents) and they were certainly the larger English budgie. I chose a male and purchased all the supplies I needed. The next day I took the budgie to my avian vet. They drew blood and did the typical gram stains and poop smears, examined him and I paid $200 for the exam and labs. The vet immediately told me that it was definitely NOT an pure English budgie, but a hybrid between and American and an Engish budgie. I was pretty upset by that alone. Then a few days later, the really bad news came; the bird was harboring an incurable bacteria in its gut, called Megalobac S, that 1.) could possibly and suddenly kill it, 2.) could possibly clear 3.) could become a low-grade chronic infection and 4.) was DEFINITELY CONTAGEOUS to my other parrots. I would always have to keep the budgie away from the other birds. It is transmitted by direct contact with feces or shared food/water. I had him quarantined anyway, as has always been my practice. I called Sugar Creek the minute I hung up from the vet and reached the same woman who deceived me and sold me the hybrid budgie. She was rude, totally unsympathetic and dismissive. NO offer was made to make things right and she said they only give a 48 hour guarantee on the budgies, so since the labs didn't come back for 4 days, I was totally out of luck. She had nothing more to say even though she admittedly KNEW who my avian vet was and also said he was well-respected. She never asked for any documentation that the budgie was sick and told me she was too busy to talk about it, that the store was full of customers. She took my number and said she would have the owner call me, but that never happened. The next time I called I was told the owner was not available. My call, again, was never returned. I could have bought the same type of budgie at another place for 1/4 what I paid at Sugar Creek. They charged me $70 for what I was told was an English budgie. It is not. He is small, wild and skittish, like his American budgie cousins, which sell for $16 at other pet stores. I have had parrots, large and small, my whole life and this bird cannot be tamed. He is also infectious, still carrying the bacteria, which I found out is transferred from the parent birds to the chicks by feeding. SO even though Sugar Creek was made aware of the problem, they still continue to sell infected budgies and offer NOTHING to compensate. BUYER BEWARE. I got screwed and I am thoroughly disgusted with how I was treated. read more

Sugarcreek Bird Farm, how many ways do I love thee? Oh, let me count the ways! One, two! Three (spoken with an impossibly clever little accent) four, five, six, seven, infinity! Swoon! But seriously, this place is bird lover's nirvana. Just, wow. You pull into the parking lot, and you know something special awaits just by the sheer feel of it! When you walk in, you'll swear you just stumbled into the opening scene, song and all, of the movie Rio! A menagerie of feather heads, all singing and screaming their little hearts song in unison, beckoning you to come in, come in! They are the happiest little puff balls anyone's seen in any bird shop, period. But wait, there's more. Not only does this "farm" raise a staggering variety of little fids (c'mon folks! Feathered kids?) they also sell nearly everything you might want for their care at very reasonable prices. They do wing clipping, beak and claw trimming and do it with ease and compassion. There are birdies hanging out absolutely everywhere, out of cages ready for interaction so come prepared for fun and keep a very close eye on little ones lest they attempt to feed finger snacks to anyone. Simply put, this place rocks! In addition to hand raised babies, they sell a great variety of quality cages for every budget (very well priced!) toys a plenty including some great options for pluckers (straw based toys to pluck etc) shower perches and t-stands, along with a wonderful variety of bulk bin foods, treats, bagged bulk foods, gourmet foods, hand feeding supplies and more. I even found a gorgeous hand blown colored glass contraption for catching fruit flies that (wait for it) isn't ugly! Hooray! I mean, what more could one ask for? Take my money! Last but certainly not least, I want to mention the most wonderful alluring part of this store, of which I have yet to see in action, and that my dears is the outdoor aviary attached to the back room of the store. In the spring and summer time they (I presume) allow the birdies play time outside, in a huge enclosed space just perfect for them, where you can go and hang out (per the signs) with those birdies swirling all around you playing in their favorite habitat! How stinking awesome sauce is that? I mean, I've only seen those in bird videos! I am so excited for them to open it up this year when the weather is right and join in on the fun! Warning, this is the real deal, so if you are not a seasoned parrot person, ask them what to expect before heading out when it is opened because I am certain buttons, earrings (ouch) and clothing have the risk of being pulled at and/or damaged, hehe. Parrots! Gotta love 'em! Can you hear it yet? The theme song to Rio is calling you! "Rio! Rio! All by itself!..." PLEASE DO NOT PASS OVER, Okay so let me make this clear and to the point, do not buy from them. Last may I had gone around to different bird places talking to people and researching what kind of bird I wanted. I had come to the conclusion that I wanted a male indian ringneck. I called them and visited a couple times to buy what they had told me over and over was a MALE indian ringneck. They had told me that they DNA sexed it a male and that is what I paid for. It's been a year and I just had my ringneck DNA sexed and it is a female. I had heard bad things about them (lying to customers, sending birds home to early (so they die)) but I though just buying a bird they DNA sexed nothing could go wrong. I called them about it and the manager was weak and had nothing to say to me and then put her father on the phone (owner of the store!!!!!) and he very rudely explained how they have no obligation to me because of the mistake. I was lied to by employees and the owner refuses to believe it and be rude to me (the victim). The only thing the backwards owner could say was how "he had 35 years of experience" well congrats, because you make money through loopholes and nobody takes the time to do what I am doing now. Please understand that I am an honest person and this is true and if you need a bird or bird needs there are honest and helpful alternatives. read more

But let me tell you about their best offer yet. The educational classes they offer. They are great.They demonstrate proper techniques in training on their own birds, offer the best speakers, and give you tons of information on proper care at a very reasonable price. We live over 2 hours away and go there frequently for all our birds needs and trust me we have a few! These are good people doing good things for all of us and our birds. Bird killers. Don't board your bird here. We boarded our Macaw here for 10 days. He was perfectly healthy when we dropped him off. When we picked him up he was quiet and a little listless. He always got a little angry with us when we have to board him. The next day he didn't eat much if any and didn't drink much. We called them and they didn't seem to care and said, "take him to the vet". The next day he was dead laying on the bottom of the cage. I don't know what they did or didn't do. But we entrusted our bird with them. I can't say for sure that they killed him but you be the judge. read more
