Did not live up to all the hype this place has been receiving. I'm not a fan of the cafeteria style ordering. They had a special Memorial Day menu, which was not easy to see or read. I was with a party of 7 with one person paying for everybody. It was a bit chaotic trying to keep everything straight. I had the pulled pork and topped it with the sweet BBQ sauce. The portions were huge, but I did not care for the food. They were out of the sides I wanted. I was told to try the mac n cheese by a friend, but it wasn't an option. Well. This ain't good. Hands down the worst Brisket I have ever had. I read the reviews. I saw where they took a third place in Memphis in May. So it is clear to me that somebody in this organization knows Q. It is just a sad state of affairs that it has not translated to their employees. The young lady given the opportunity to work the slicing station committed THE cardinal sin with regards to her appointed task. She cut with the grain of the meat, as opposed to the correct method,(across the grain) It made the brisket stringy and inedible. When we pointed that fact out we were informed, that is how they do it there. If you don't believe me, see for yourself. I took pictures. The only redemption was the side of squash, it was very tasty. I just didn't go to a squash restaurant. I went to a Bar-B-Que place and found out they don't do BBQ--they just cook meat! read more

I usually get the chicken biscuit, that's amazing. The turkey is always good too. My 5 year old loves it. The brisket was awesome the one time I ate it... Not a red meat fan. Which might explain why I wasn't fond of the burnt ends. They were way too salty and hard to chew. I was expecting something softer and jucier. The sides are always good. This was my first time eating out after getting a celiac disease diagnosis, so I was a bit nervous. I let them know I needed everything to be gluten free and that I had celiac disease. They let me know what I could and couldn't eat, including letting me know that the fries were fried in the same oil as breaded food. They also changed their gloves before preparing my food. Sugarfire is delicious, quick and a fun atmosphere. It's kid-friendly and we find the portions hefty enough to share with our kiddos without anyone going hungry. They've got me addicted to their Diet Lucky Soda (Excel Bottling Company) and their burgers are outstanding. The ribs are tender and meaty. The fries are thin and always a heaping portion- enough to leave guilty but glad you did. Our kids love their house-made applesauce combinations with strawberry or cherry. They add in daily sides and specials to ensure you've always got something new to try. We are moving away from STL and will miss this place! read more

Everything tasted good. It didn't matter what you ordered. We've spent around $50 on delivery the last 4 or 5 times now and it's been terrible every time. I think they must be buying a different grade of meat now. The pulled pork used to be so moist and it was darker with seasoning and a little skin mixed in. Now it's white, bland, and bone dry. The sides are bland and taste like no one even cares to try them and make sure they're appealing. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the portions plentiful. However, the food was nothing special. There are names for various sandwiches, but the custoner selects the meat and the meat all seems to go on the same bun so I am not sure what's up with that. I had the Carolina with brisket. The brisket was bland, in fact, the wood smoke on the patio smelled better than the meat. The fries were good but chopped up into little snibbles which were greasy and difficult to pick up. The cole Slaw was pedestrian. Beer was warm. The upstairs patio shown in the web site photo is for the establishment next door and off limits to patrons of Sugarfire. Oh my, where do I begin! I have gone numerous times with different friends and family. They have excellent BBQ and sauces! I have never had a problem with an order or the amount of food they serve you. They have generous portions and a wide variety of sides. They change their side options, so you never know what your choices are going to be until you get there or call in your order. They have roasted Brussel sprouts which I love! And they also deliver in the Washington area. The employees that I have encountered have always been friendly and helpful. I would recommend this eatery if you haven't tried it and like BBQ. I was a bit confused on my first visit as to how to enter the serving area; but an employee came and guided me to the correct area. I loved the location of this restaurant, being right on the riverfront. The employees were very polite and helpful, so if it was solely based on customer service by employees, they would get five stars. However, the food was not up to par for the price. I got the 2 meal combo with ribs, pulled pork, fries, and potato salad. My boyfriend got the brisket with "Frankentots" and baked beans. My ribs were good but the pulled pork was cold and dry, the fries were pretty good, thin and crispy, but I was not a fan of the potato salad at all as it was very bland. The brisket was also very dry and not very enjoyable. The baked beans were average and the Frankentots probably would have been great if they were hot. We were not fans of the "cafeteria line" style of service with the food being mostly cold. Our total bill was over $40, and it didn't taste like $40 at all compared to other BBQ places in the area. The staff was very attentive, walking around answering any questions and checking to see if anyone needed anything. This was a nice touch for counter service style restaurant. The food was great BBQ, the Mac n Cheese was a little mushy. Over all the entire family enjoyed. I loved the special for the night which was a Buffalo Pulled Chicken topped with Fritos. So so good. Best BBQ out there pulled pork and brisket are tender and juicy. Mac and cheese phenomenal and their house sodas are good too.

I normally do not like bbq, but this place is special. Creative menu items and lots of yummy side choices.
