Nhung is a hair whisperer. I have been avoiding visiting a salon for over a year ever since my go-to LA stylist moved back to Japan. After a few months of rescheduling (on my part) I was finally able to make it out to Santa Monica, the commute from downtown LA on a Saturday afternoon was totally worth it! When I arrived for my appointment with Nhung my normally healthy hair was in a pretty dismal state, breakage, split ends and dull color. It was pretty depressing but when she was done my hair looked like it had undergone more than just a simple haircut, it was a total transformation and I could not stop touching my hair! What I really enjoyed about my appointment was that it was not just a haircut but also a consultation. Nhung asked me about what shampoo I use, how I usually wear my hair, what are my daily routines, if I had any concerns with my hair health, and even what my stress levels have been recently. For someone that keeps a pretty low maintenance lifestyle she gave me a lot to think about in the approach to my hair health but she didn't pressure me into any product purchases or additional services. I didn't purchase anything beyond my haircut but I definitely feel comfortable to reach out for advice on what shampoo to purchase before my next visit to the pharmacy. Everything about HONEY|COMB was so carefully and thoughtfully planned out. From the hand-painted, honeycomb wall to the lighting to the curated music list. Nhung is all about the details and it shows. From her preparation of your coffee to the way your hair may sweep across your face. She makes sure it is JUST right, just for you. It's hard to explain, especially if you are coming from one of those larger or chain salons, but Nhung makes sure you feel right at home while you're getting your hair did. She can discuss anything from music to sports, fashion to politics. Soon enough you'll forget that you went for a very specific reason and suddenly it is all over. You might have walked in there feeling like you have worker bee hair but trust me, you will walk out feeling like the Queen (or King!) Bee. read more

Am I guilty of looking at IG hair and pointing it out to Nhung and saying I want that? 100%. Our consultation was very informative and transparent which made me more excited for my new look. Nhung reminded me that I have Asian hair (jet-black and resilient) so the road to double taps meant having a lot of patience. During my first session, I could have sworn I saw sweat coming down Nhung's face from the intense labor my hair was giving her. After several hours, my hair went from Sesame Street monster to a balayage goddess. I'm so grateful for this Color Specialist Kween who makes sure I'm looking snatched. Since Nhung takes tremendous pride on her craft, we already have our next session planned out. I can't wait until our next follow up session! I had my hair done by Nhung at her old salon and have followed her to her new location. I've had quite of few people cut my hair much shorter than i've told them but Nhung always listens to my requests. My hair will grow about 4-6 inches every few months and I know that when I go to her I'll leave with a great cut and very healthy hair. 10/10 would recommend. read more

I have to start this review by stating that I am incredibly supportive of women-owned businesses, especially ones owned by Asian American women because there aren't enough of us out there. So I wasn't going to write a review, but I can't let this go. My experience with Nhung was so sour I feel like I have to share it as a warning to any new clients who might be considering her services. This review could probably take up pages with screenshots of our texts where she blamed me several times for the terrible results she delivered, but I'll give it to you straight: -I went in for a consult to darken my hair and she quoted me one price. -I came back for service the next week. -She toned my hair and I ended up with reddish/ orangey highlights that were a different tone than the rest of my hair. (She blamed it on porosity, but I confirmed with other stylists it was her lack of color expertise.) -I expressed my concerns, so she toned darker and it *kind of* covered the reddish highlights I ended up with. -Then she tried to tell me she was doing me a favor because actually it was now a color correction worth over $500. (Umm, what?) -I didn't want to be there anymore because I was frustrated with how my hair looked so I still tipped her and left because I'm not a rude person and I wanted to believe she would make it right in the future. -Nhung said I can check in with her in the next week if I wasn't satisfied. -I texted her the next day to let her know I'd like to come back in and have her fix it. No response. -I very courteously texted her again the day after *asking* if she would rather process some kind of refund and have me go somewhere else to fix my hair and she responded later that evening with so much attitude. Her excuse was that she had a death in the family and then she also blamed me for my hair color disappointment instead of trying to make me feel safe about coming back in to work it out. (I too had a death in the family that I was dealing with, so I couldn't believe she tried to use that as an excuse for poor communication and her curtness.) -More texts were exchanged and she basically got nasty with it. I ended the convo by letting her know I'd dispute the charge via my credit company and the convo ended. Long story short, customer satisfaction is not a true priority and she isn't a color specialist/ master. Save your money and go to a salon with master colorists. I'm 100% positive that Nhung knows my hair better than me. Seeing as I'm such a low maintenance person and never ever style my hair, she makes it as to where it does look like I've done my hair for the day. I've been coming to Nhung for many years, following her from salon to salon and so happy she opened the suite. I am a senior with a chronic medical condition where the treatment I take makes my hair thin and it falls out. Since I need hair color now, every three weeks and my hair is so fragile, I come to her every week. Over the years she has made my hair healthier and healthier and I always get compliments on my color. She has a very sweet personality and she makes what could be burdensome to me a very positive experience. So grateful!! read more
