I got my hair cut by Shin a few months ago, and I wanted to write a review to inform everyone how it's going for me. As my hair grows out, I like my hair cut more and more. At the time of the cut, it was a little on the shorter side for me, but it still looked nice. Now that my hair has grown out. The cut looks even better! The way the hair is layered makes the hair look so pretty and feminine. I also asked for highlights when I was at her salon. At the time I though the highlights were a bit bright, but after getting used to them, and having the summer sun work on my hair, my hair turned into this beautiful, glow-y, naturally highlighted look. Even after a few months my highlights still blend into the roots of my hair and it looks soooo natural and sun-kissed. I am a big fan of Shin's work. Shin is truly an artist and the best in the business! I came here not expecting miracles, but by golly the miracles happened. I am a rather difficult client with specific taste and not so good at articulating my needs. Shin surpassed all of my expectations and then some. She also told me that my haircut would look progressively better as it grows and gave me some really good tips on how to (easily) style it. I was kind of skeptical about the "hey it'll look better post-cut" but am glad to be proven wrong. It's been almost a year, and I still get compliments on a regular basis. Nearly $400 later, and I hate my hair. I'm sorry to give this one star, because I did like Jeremy, the person who did my cut. I was very unhappy with my colorist Scarlet though. I specifically told her I don't like anything orange, red or brassy in my hair, and that I wanted soft caramel highlights (my hair is dark brunette). I articulated this because past colorists have pulled those colors into my hair, which she said probably was not their fault since everyone interprets color differently (probably should not make the customer feel dumb). So, I showed her a couple of pictures of the color I wanted, for extra clarification. What did I come out of the salon with? Auburn/brassy/dark purple streaks in my hair, mixed with caramel that is too blonde for my taste. Seriously. It is also very chunky & stripy, which I dislike as I want it to look natural. In the salon lighting, and far away from the mirror, I loved it. So I tipped well and was happy, until I got home. One more note- the girl who styled my hair afterwards did a wonderful job. It is too bad my color experience was awful. read more

Cute little salon with very zen-like decor. I see Star to cut long layers in my hair, and textured side bangs. Her technique is the dry cut, which not many people do. They also offer free bang trim in between haircuts. Also, this is the one place where I've received the BEST hair shampoos/massages!! The price is on the expensive side, but it includes shampoo, blow dry, and style. She gives an amazing blow out that lasts awhile! My haircut can last 5-6 months, so in the end I think the cost is worth it. read more

Wow, Shin really damaged my hair and turned it an aging orange-blond. Seven months later I'm still working on getting it healthy. She enthusiastically presented a plan...which cost $1000.. good plan for her, bad for me. It came out so ugly, so wrong for my skin tone, and my hair got fried. I have to conclude Shin ups the services to charge more. It will take another year to correct the damage her over-highlighting caused. I strongly advise you not to go here. read more

I had my hair cut by Amy and she could not have been more lovely. We chatted about my hair, looked at some styles and agreed on a game plan. She nearly took the words out of my mouth as she described her vision for me. Amy is laid back, easy to talk to and gave me a super fun, chic cut. Had the absolute worst experience here! What awful people! One of their stylists, Idma, posted an ad on an online booking site looking for a hair model to do a blowout on. I answer the ad saying I live in the area and would love to come in. I send a pic and everything. She responds right away and says 'thank you, I'd love to have you come in' and gives me a date and time to arrive. During this time a few things come up, but as someone who hates flaking on people, I make sure to not schedule anything that would interfere or make me late for when I promised to show up- even if it makes my schedule a bit more difficult. A few days later I arrive, go to the front desk and explain that I'm there to see Idma. The front desk receptionist (who later tells me she's the manager too) tells me to wait a moment and goes over to speak to Idma. A few minutes later she comes over and tells me Idma's busy and can't take me today. Can't take me? We have an appointment. An appointment she requested. I just paid for parking! I explain this, and this receptionist/manager tells me (in the most condensing manner possible) that she can't take me, she's busy with something else. Like I'm stupid and didn't hear her the first time. Honestly, she's talking to me like I'm a small child who walked in and demanded a service. I ask why Idma didn't text me if she couldn't take me? I arranged my whole schedule that day as to not do this very thing to her. Receptionist/manager says she tried reach me, but couldn't. Huh? How is that? I don't have a text or missed call from her. My phone works fine. At this point she tries to get me to go outside even though neither one of us were yelling. I said no, we can have the conversation right there. I asked if at any point anyone was going to say the words 'I'm sorry' to me for canceling this appointment with no warning whatsoever. She says she did apologize and I remind her that, no, she has not once apologized during this entire conversation. She just stares at me. I ask again why I wasn't contacted- my phone works perfectly. This time she tells me Idma lost my number. Well, which is it? Did she try to contact me and it didn't work or did she loose my number? (Wild guess- neither one. They're just lying through their teeth at this point.). And then comes the best part. This truly awful receptionist/manager looks me right in the eyes and says 'I mean you're coming in here as a hair model, right? It's not like you're a real paying customer.' Jesus. It was my turn to just stare. I couldn't believe she said that to me. I'm a hair model YOUR employee ASKED to come in. More importantly, I'm a person. I deserve respect and a consideration of my time just like anyone else. I deserve to be treated without condescension. Here are two other reasons this was so dumb on their part- I live in the area and get blowouts (yes, as a paid customer) often. Had this gone nicely I could have become a customer. Two- I'm getting married soon and am planning to put a few hair places in the area on the wedding website as recommendations for ladies coming to the wedding to get their hair done. On the way driving over to this place I remember thinking that if it's a cool place I should ask their normal rates and put them on the list since they're so close to where people will be staying. So by not treating me like a real customer (or a human being deserving of basic respect for that matter) they ended up loosing a future customer. Plus, I tell this story in all the west side wedding forums where people recommend different vendors now. I will spread the word about this place in all ways I can. Here's the major point though- if you're reading this and thinking this doesn't affect your decision to go to this salon because you'll be a paying customer so they'll be nicer to you- think again. This kind of lack of respect for people, the way the receptionist/manager spoke to me like I was an idiot- that is who these people are. That is the norm of this business. They might be all smiles and politeness with the promise of your money, but if you have a problem, request, or they deem you unworthy of basic respect for whatever reason, some version of this story is what you'll go through. A business is judged on how they treat everyone, not a select few. Current AND future customers. Don't go to a place that has the ability and willingness to treat people with such disregard and disrespect. It might just be you they turn on next time. read more

It is a risky thing, to not know or have heard anything about a hair stylist and let her cut your beloved hair, but I just had an intuition once when I walked by the salon, that I had to go there! So I made an appointment with the owner figuring she had to smart and talented in order to open up such a pretty shop on her own... I had the best hair cut I have ever had!!!!!!!!! She invited me to take a risk, and somehow I just trusted her. She was smart, wise and nice and had the most beautiful dress on with the perfect shade of lipstick. I am in love with my hair cut. I'd done my share of research and certainly been to many salons to say the least. Typically I'll walk out after getting my hair done and can't help but feel slightly or even very frustrated. I hate to admit it but I'm one of those people who thinks, "I could have done this better..." A few months ago I finally decided to try Shin Salon. Over the course of the previous year and a half I'd gone from waist long Blue/Black hair, to Rihanna Red, to a brownish blonde ombre, to dark brown ombre, to an all dark brown which had left me super frustrated and short haired. I couldn't get the type of brown tone I'd ask for and saw in magazines. So there I was at Shin for the first time, I'd decided that I would just get my hair died and go from there. My appointment was with Ilona and the first thing I noticed about her (besides the fact that she was incredibly sweet, had a zen-like calm about her), was that Ilona's technique is wonderfully meticulous and precise! And the color she's produced (twice now), each time is super rich, multifaceted, and exactly what I was looking for!!! And what I love about the salon is that all the girls are genuine, have their own unique style and there's a complete LACK of cattiness - very refreshing. I don't Yelp. But this is a Yelping moment - Ilona is my hero ;) and Shin and Star! Needless to say my subsequent haircuts and the way my hair is styled afterward have been FABULOUS! read more

I got a great cut from Elizabeth last week. :) Not much too say other than the staff is welcoming and attentive to it's customers -- greeting folks, offering them coffee/water, and checking in throughout your service. Pricing can range depending on the stylist but all in all you can tell from the environment that this is a salon that cares about quality and satisfaction for their clients. Bonus is the adorable area it is located in -- grab some brunch/lunch before or after and enjoy being pampered by the staff at Shin. :) read more

Perfect cut, bangs, and color! Jeremy serviced me. It was my first time there and I honestly didn't think it would have been so perfect. I am extremely picky. I only go to the best of the best.
