We hosted our reception at the Riddick House at Stevenson Ridge, and it could not have been more perfect. We wanted a venue that offered great food and an intimate, cozy space, and this was exactly that and more. From the very beginning, Jennifer was absolutely fabulous -- professional, kind, and incredibly organized. When rain threatened to derail our outdoor ceremony plans, she met us the morning before to help us work out a seamless Plan B. Thanks to her calm guidance, we never felt stressed for a moment. The menu created by the chef was outstanding. We chose to do heavy hors d'oeuvres instead of a formal sit-down dinner, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions we made. The food was plentiful, creative, and absolutely delicious -- our guests are still talking about it! I recently planned a three day company retreat at Stevenson Ridge and couldn't be happier. Each team member was able to have their own private cabin - we rented all of them except the Corn Crib and The Tobacco Barn. Even in winter, the grounds are beautiful and well-kept. The staff was so accommodating from the very beginning and I can't say enough great things about the event planner and the on-site coordinator, Jennifer & Nikki. The food was amazing and they are very accommodating to dietary restrictions. I was a little nervous about having plated meals (finding something that 9-16 people would all enjoy is difficult) but the food was so delicious, there wasn't a single complaint. The creme brûlée was a team favorite. We typically choose new locations for the retreat but since each cabin is so unique and we didn't utilize some parts of The Riddick House (it's very large!), we will definitely be back. read more

My third great-grandfather fought at the Battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse, and I visited the Battlefield a few times with my father. When my father passed away last year, I took my first (of three) visits to Stevenson Ridge because I felt close to him (and my ancestor) there. The first two trips were fine, but on the most recent one in July, I was constantly watched by a man in a vehcle across the street and it was VERY unnerving. They gave me good reviews, and even for the July trip said that I was good at communicating with them. I had booked via AirBnb to stay the night tomorrow (9/1/2025), on the anniversary of my second-great grandfather's death, but I was contacted by someone who told me that, despite my good reviews on all prevoius trips written by Stevenson Ridge, that now they said I had not obeyed a rule to not move furniture (a rule not in the listing or in the handbook, a fact confirmed by Airbnb). I was told they, despite having given me good reviews at the time, were actually upset with me, and they cancelled the reservation to stay there on the anniversaity of my ancestor's passing. I am deeply broken hearted that after having a good relationship and good reviews with Stevenson Ridge prior, that they would do this. I would not recommend staying there, but I hope a better venue may open in the area in the future so I can visit the area where my ancestor sacrified so much. I really did enjoy my visits there, and wish they had not confirmed but then cancelled my reservation. It wasn't fair to me. read more

My boyfriend and I spent a mini weekday getaway at the Post Office. The decor has rustic charm albeit a bit dated and somewhat worn in. I will add that it does add to its charm. The bed was incredibly soft but didn't have much structure, therefore making it difficult to sleep in. I booked through Airbnb and was able to communicate with their site manager without issue. She was able to address my concerns quickly. Check-in was contactless and a breeze. This cabin is next door to another cabin. It's not as isolated as the others but we didn't see our neighbors nor did it bother us. We enjoyed our stay and plan to check out the Adrian House or Tobacco Barn in the future! read more

New Years Eve Wedding Event! This venue was beyond Amazing! Rustic elegant setting and the most professional staff to work with! I cannot thank Jennifer and her staff enough in the expertise in delivering a wonderful night for all! This place is really nice, but avoid the Spy Hill house at all costs. We had two couples share the Spy Hill house, for NYE 2017-18, one of the coldest weekends. We were excited to spend two days in a rustic historic place. We paid around $540 for 2 nights, which included an outdoor fire pit. when you are dropping OVER $200 a night, you tend to expect the basics. Spy Hill House was very sub par, structurally neglected. A comfortable temperature would be a nice request. All guests had to wear multiple layers and shoes inside the house because it was too chilly. I wanted to complain but my GF (now ex-gf, said not to bother anyone on a weekend.) We had the fire place going which did not heat the place well along the wall unit heater. It was a chilly night, but I made the mistake of not alerting management. The wall unit did not work well. The instructions said to only keep it on auto.. so that's what I did. Photos will follow. The HVAC was sub-par. Again, if I am paying over $200 a night, functional heat would nice. The house was in semi-disrepair. The insulation on the windows were falling out. Photos attached. I had to use paper from a magazine to stop up the air leaks from the door to try to prevent a steady stream of freezing air. That's ghetto in my book, having to plug air leaks when the maintenance can put insulation. Photo attached. I got to see the Post office, which was amazing! It was warm, very nice, and comfortable. Before bed the 1st night, we tried to light a fire upstairs, but the flute/hatch above the fire place was off track but still open. The WHOLE upstairs filled with smoke, smoke alarm went off. Had to put the fire out and sleep in the cold room, becuase the HVAC did not work well also. The next morning it took 2 people to get the flute properly open so we could get some heat. The 2nd night, was FREEZING! Actually not to far off from it. Yes it was in the teens that night, however, if I am paying over $200 a night, I would expect the house being at least in the 60s. I am not camping, I paid for a higher end bed and breakfast. My kept telling me don't bother anyone on new years. BUT I COULD NOT TAKE THE COLD ANYMORE. I could not feel my toes all night, with 2 pairs of socks and loads (4) of blankets on top with another body under the covers with me. Photos documenting it are attached. I called at 5:30am.. Maintaince came at 6pm and gave us a heater and wood and more blankets. It did not help, bc the cabin was soo drafty. The sub-par amenities and house. The coffee maker is from the 1990s and did not work. I feel like if I am paying over $200 a night, a decent $20 coffee maker would be nice, esp when we wake up to 40 degree temps. A warm cup of coffee would be nice to warm up. (photo attached) Stevenson Ridge is nice, however avoid Spy Hill house bc it's silly to pay over $200 a night for a place that's not properly maintained. It was a terrible weekend, it's partly my fault for not voicing my concern sooner, but did not want to have to check out and ruin everyone's NYE plan. Management did not charge me one of the 2 nights. Which was a start, but not enough to compensate for ruining my highly anticipated holiday. I also feel like an idiot not complaining on the 1st day. And feel even worse that my other friends paid the same amount for a night and had a 10x better place, (Post Office) AVOID SPY HILL HOUSE if you do go. read more

Stevenson Ridge was an ideal venue for my daughter's wedding. Their team made every step of the process easy and fun. We were able to get to know them and see their professionalism and commitment to detail. We knew they understood our daughter and future son in law's vision for the event. As a result, the day of the wedding was stress free for all of us because we knew each area was in excellent hands. I think of them as our dream team. They really could not have been better. Our guests repeatedly commented about the venue, the food, the service, and the simple beauty of everything. I am so thankful we chose them for wedding coordination services. Olivia was amazing and took care of each and every detail. She could not have been better. The immediate family and much of the wedding party was able to stay in their unique, charming cabins, which added to the ease and enjoyment of the whole weekend. The stunning Riddick House was an ideal place for our daughter and her bridesmaids to stay Friday night and get dressed the next morning in a relaxed setting. Unprofessional, not Trustworthy, they won't even honor their own contract. The owner Jennifer was rude and won't answer emails or phone calls. We booked our daughters wedding back in October for 7/4/20, rented out the entire property paying top dollar for menu choices etc,. Then Corona came 6 weeks out they called to tell us they couldn't accommodate due to governors mandate but would reschedule, my daughter & her fiancé wanted to keep their date for sentimental reasons. They offered a small ceremony of 50 or less, which would not work for us because immediate family alone is more than that. This was all nobody's fault, we did not blame them for these strange times we are in we would just do a backyard wedding at our lake house. When I asked when I could get my money back they would not reply. I sent 3 emails over 5 days, no reply. I called and left several messages over that same week, again no answer. The owner Jennifer, then proceeded to send an email to the grooms father blaming us for "cancelling" and threatening if we tried to hold the ceremony at a private location that it was illegal and there would be consequences. Of course the grooms father was livid, and ready to call his attorney to sue them. I calmed him down and called the catering manager to let her know what was happening, and of course when Jennifer heard attorneys might get involved she called me within 10 minutes. I asked when I could pick up the checks for the moneys we had given she was very belligerent and not until I told her I would be there the next day at 11:00 to pick up the checks did she concede but stated we would not be getting back the original $500 deposit. I pulled out my contract where it specifically states not only are all parties "free of obligation if cancelled due to government mandate" it also says the $500 is a fully refundable deposit. When I showed this to her the next day, she got very angry yelling "well you don't know what we've been thru, I am not giving that to you" Needless to say we still have not gotten that money back, but their unprofessional handling of this situation, and the fact that they won't even honor their own contract is the number one reason I will make sure nobody I know ever uses this venue! read more

A beautiful B&B on an amazing piece of property. The owners/staff are very nice and welcoming. We booked it last minute so we weren't able to stay in one of the cabins but was able to walk the property to check them out. We can't wait to come back and stay in one of them. Finally! A worthy subject for a milestone review: #400 is the inviting Stevenson Ridge, part B&B, part guest house, part event space, and part small resort. Stevenson Ridge is a wonderful place to base yourself for exploring Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania and environs, rich with Civil War history, small-town charm, and captivating natural beauty. It's situated on 87 rolling acres directly adjacent to Spotsylvania Battlefield. Owners Debbie and Dan Spear bought the property in 2000 and have since relocated to the property, and restored, half a dozen historical structures from throughout the Southern United States. A residential contractor, Dan's craftsmanship, eye for detail, and love of history are evident in every immaculately refurbished building. Dan and Debbie are warm and hospitable, as is their daughter Jennifer, the Property Manager and Events Coordinator. We felt like honored guests from the moment we arrived to the moment we checked-out. Guests can stay in the grand columned mansion, the Riddick House, with its opulent furnishings and décor; the Log Home, a rustic, chinked-log structure with full porch; the Corn Crib or Barn, open studios; the two-story 18th century Spy Hill House; or the Servants Quarter, a simple log and brick structure with sleeping loft. Most -- if not all -- of the structures have a small kitchenette and a wood-burning fireplace. Husband and I stayed in the Servants Quarter and found it to be cozy and welcoming, just enough space for the two of us. We were happy to be able to make use of the charming fireplace on one of the first chilly evenings of Autumn. The sleeping loft contains two twin four-posters but if you ask when you book, Jennifer will have them joined into a king. The only detail I found somewhat disconcerting -- I guess as a big-city girl perpetually concerned with safety -- was that there are no keys to any of the buildings. The doors lock from the inside, but not from without, so be wary of your valuables when you leave. The property itself is fenced and gated (with an entry code), so not entirely unsecure, but still... The pricing at Stevenson Ridge is a ludicrous steal. The Servant Quarter was $125 a night -- for our own-free standing structure with kitchenette and fireplace! -- and other rates are equally and relatively affordable. Breakfast is not included, but for $15 per person, you can have a breakfast basket of pastries, fruit, granola, juice, etc. delivered to your door in the morning. Stevenson Ridge is a relaxing, pastoral place to recharge and renew, only a short hour's or so drive from the hustle of DC...and at ridiculously affordable prices. read more

We stayed here after a wedding which was held in the large lodge building. The Log Home was amazing! Only 2 of us stayed but could have slept at least 4 people. It had a cute little kitchen with coffee, tea, and water provided along with a few little snacks. The living room was cozy and wish it was cool enough to build a fire! The decorations are adorable throughout the entire home. The master bedroom has a clean, comfy and huge bed with a quilt on it. My favorite part of our stay was being able to drink mimosas and coffee on the double rocking chair on the large porch with a view of the water. The owner of the property came by and talked to is and was so friendly. Wish we could have stayed longer. My only regret is not purchasing the breakfast package which I hear is amazing! My boyfriend and I stayed at the Log Cabin while attending a wedding at the main venue. It was beautiful and very cozy. The cabin itself is rustic. Plenty of room for others to stay if wanted. The staff was very friendly and brought us candles when a storm caused the power to go out. Our only complaint was the confusion checking in and out. It wasn't clearly indicated where we should go to do so and caused a slight delay in our plans. We highly recommend this place! And hope to go back. read more

I stayed two weekday nights in "The Post Office" -- the cabin is very clean and well appointed and the staff is very friendly and attentive. The location is close to the Spotsylvania Courthouse Battlefield Park which has well maintained walking trails. The most important thing to note is that the buildings are all in rather close proximity to one another and to the event hall and that traffic noise from the byway carries. It isn't a deal breaker unless you're seeking solitude and a more natural setting. It would be a great place to hold a reunion/event! read more

OMG! I think that sums it up, but I will rite more. EVERY year for the past 4 or so years, I have went to hotel for my birthday and enjoyed a me day to gather my thoughts for the coming year. Every year I have stayed someplace different. MY SEARCH IS OVER. This reasonably priced bed and breakfast is BAR none the end of my search. I paid extra for a early check in and thank goodness I did. All other "suites" were unoccupied or getting cleaned and because of this I was able to tour 8 of the 9 suites, one of which I was staying in (The Corn Crib). They welcome you to walk the property and give you a brochure with a brief history of all "suites". I keep " " suites because a B&B is usually one big house and the bedroom are where guest stay, mingle and eat. At Stevenson Ridge, ALL suites are private. No one next door to hear my plethora of moviethon's going all late and vice versa. My own entrance, my own kitchenette, my own fireplace and more then a bedroom to spread out. What more could you ask for. Granted, there is no one to serve breakfast or dinner, which SOME B&B's offer, but it is available to you upon request, delivered to your suite. The Corn Crib, I think, is the more modern of the 8 that I saw, but ALL have a TV and DVD. ALL have net access though the closer you are to the main house the better the connection. All have a fire place, of which I burned until I went to sleep. It is a gated property, which was comforting security wise since I was alone. The Civil War House, The Riddick House and The Log Cabin are 2 "bedrooms" all other are one. ALL offer a very fascinating plethora of antiques. I just can't say enough about this place...though they could use some or at least one in the middle, flood lights so the property isn't quite so pitch black at night. Needless to say, my search for a birthday retreat is OVER! read more

This venue was amazing. It was beautiful and the folks that work there were more than accommodating to what my husband and I wanted for our wedding. We worked with Bettina and she was so great! She responded to emails within 24 hours, if she was on vacation I could call their office and talk to someone right away. They were accommodating with the cabins and check-in times as well! They allowed us to bring any of our own decorations, they also had some there for rental. They had a food tasting before the event to pick our food and a wine tasting (in which we could bring friends, which was fun!) We ordered heavy hor d'oeuvres, instead of a full dinner, and it was more than enough food for everyone the entire night. Beautiful venue, great service! read more

We searched within a 2 hour radius of our home for the perfect wedding venue for our daughter's wedding and didn't expect to find it in our own backyard. When our daughter and son-in-law walked in to Stevenson Ridge their eyes lit up. They asked us to cancel all other site visits because they had found the place where they wanted to be married. Gorgeous scenery, beautiful accommodations on property, and a first class staff made their special day one to remember. We rented the Riddick House and could not have selected a more elegant home for the bride and bridesmaids to get ready. Lighting and space for hair and make-up was a stylist's dream. Friends and family rented the Corn Crib, Civil War House, and Log Cabin and all were thrilled with the accommodations and excellent proximity to the celebration. Jennifer and her team were amazing, they consulted with us, made recommendations, adjusted menus to our desires and handled everything on the 'day of' so that the MOB could enjoy her guests. This is our second year staying at Stevenson Ridge in August, but it is not our last. We are beginning to think of the Corn Crib as "ours." The setting could not be nicer, and Jennifer & Staff are the best. Next year we plan to take advantage of the breakfast package, as it has gotten good reviews here. The whole place is peaceful, historic, and just perfect as a central location from which to explore the surrounding area. We attended a conference held on the grounds, and being able to wake up late & walk over to the main venue was perfect for us. We love this place! read more

We recently had a wonderful 4-night stay at Stevenson Ridge (we were a group of 5). We rented the Corn Crib, the Civil War House, the Island Suite and the Post Office. All of the accommodations were great! The owners have thought of everything to make for a comfortable and enjoyable stay - comfortable beds, extra blankets and pillows, plenty of lighting options, well-stocked bathrooms and kitchenettes, comfy bath robes, nice towels, plenty of coffee, tea and ice in the rooms, complimentary wi-fi, very friendly & helpful staff and management, etc. My husband is very particular about lodging when we travel, and he was beyond pleased with everything. The historic nature and the beauty of the property were an added bonus. The history of the various cabins was intriguing, but don't let the word "historic" lead you to think things are 'old' or rundown. The homes and cabins all have modern amenities and decor, comfortable furniture, etc. The location is great - very close to all sorts of activities, dining, shopping, county courthouse, etc. This visit was for business, but we will definitely be back for pleasure! read more

Stevenson Ridge recently hosted our wedding in the Riddick House and we count not have asked for a more FABULOUS VENUE!!! The staff was very responsive during the planning phases, and they organized everything from the linens, to the set up, to the caterer. We stayed overnight the night prior to the event in the Spy Hill House (which was WONDERFUL!) and spent the night of the wedding in the Riddick House (LOVE IT!).
