During a haircut in September 2025, I mentioned that I had had a positive travel experience to Russia in 1998 and hair dresser James Valiant somehow interpreted this as me being pro-Putin. His attitude suddenly changed after I mentioned my travels (and the hair stylist beside him declared defiantly that she is Ukrainian) and I can only say that he butchered my hair after that. In my defence, I have financially sponsored Ukrainian refugees to Canada and do not support Putin. As a client of Suki's since the '90s, I will not go back there again after this unprofessional conduct. I was willing to overlook him being an egomaniac but his lack of respect toward clients is beyond unprofessional. I should have opted out at ego-maniac. I used to cherish this salon due to the lore about Suki and loving the architecture of Arthur Erickson, but forget it. This salon is way past its prime. read more

Booked a haircut for my birthday. My initial experience was not good...the receptionist was cold and unwelcoming. Although I had known about Suki's most of my life, I'd never been and had no clue of where to go, where to put my coat, etc. Nevertheless I should have trusted my gut and walked out right then and there... big mistake. The wash was relaxing and when I met the stylist he was friendly and chatty. He had look at my hair and we made a plan of action. The experience while in the chair was good... what wasn't good, great or understandable was the finished product. I told him my preference for a centre part and loose waves... I got a slicked back, frizzy triangle poof. Looking back, I should have had him redo it all but was in a hurry and didn't want to make a scene. As I said, it was my birthday and i purposely booked this appointment so I'd look awesome for my birthday... instead I spent $100+ on a basic cut (which is fine) but walked away with a hideous style that had clumps of crusty hairspray that made it impossible to manage without a complete re-wash. So what did I do... got home, cried, brushed out the cement frizz, added a handful of silkening product and pulled it back into a low bun. Suki's sucks read more

I only go to Suki's for a Shanghai Pedicure. Mr. So is the foot expert at Suki's. Mr. So's younger brother worked on my feet at the Mandarin Oriental Spa in Hong Kong. When I found out that the older brother was working at Suki's Spa, I quickly made an appointment. Mr So's father started the business in Shanghai and passed the skills to his two sons. Back to the foot treatment. After soaking your feet for 10 minutes, Mr So will bring a tray of instruments, scalpels and knives.. It looks like he is ready to operate on your feet. He will use a knife to cut your toenail and clean the entire area. The best part is cleaning all the thick dead skin on your feet. After wearing heels, my feet definitely need this type of shaving. Don't worry about Mr. So's work. After several years, I find he is very gentle and knowledgeable about feet. He never cuts too deep. I have complete faith in him. After the treatment, the foot looks beautiful and ready for those heels. read more

I've had mediocre hair cuts and color at suki's. I thought the salon was overpriced but was a good place holder after i movef back to the city until I found a good salon to switch to permanently. That was until I had my hair done for my wedding. The girl was not who the appointment was booked with and she seemed very unsure of herself while fumbling with my hair. I asked her to redo my braid a few times. The first was because I have layers and had awkward spikes of hair coming out near the bottom of the braid. I asked her to stop the braid further up and curl the bottoms like in the picture I originally showed her. Then she didn't leave enough at the bottom and proceeded to grab massive chunks of hair to wrap around the wand. I have crazy thick hair so obviously what she was doing was going to fail miserably. Anyway no less than an hour after I left the salon my hair had completely shifted from its braid and I had to try and scramble to fix it minutes before my wedding. Then again at dinner and finally when we arrived at the hotel it my hair was a hot mess. It never at any point looked like the pictures I showed her. Also for I want to mention I am dissapointed every time I go to this salon because I've not once actually had a scalp massage while they washed my hair. It's a small thing but it always leaves me irritated because that's part of what I look forward to when visiting a hair dresser. Anyway I probably won't be back. read more

So I came here wanting to get a really nice short hair cut. When I called in to book the initial appointment the receptionist gave me 2 options for hair stylists and I said whichever is more creative with short hair cuts since it was my first time cutting it above my shoulders. She said they are both very good so I decided to go which whoever charges more thinking It would make a difference. The overall experience was great but my hair cut was just absolutely questionable. I asked him for a thin short Bob but instead I got a straight thick cut. I was in denial about it since I wanted to give my stylist the benefit of the doubt. After revealing my new hair cut to others the reviews I got back really freaked me out cause firstly, I told him I was most likely going to put extentions in my hair so please make it blend .. he definitely did not listen. Secondly, When my boyfriend asked why does it look like he just chopped it straight at the back and did not layer it the girl at the front said it will grow out nicer if it was cut like that. Wish I never came here and listened to everyone who has told me about their bad experience and over priced service. Would never return. Its unfortunate that it took a "bad review" for someone to address my concerns. After two visits and $800, calling the salon did nothing. Writing a "bad Yelp" review on the other hand got me an email from the business manager offering to fix my hair for free. Why? So that I would remove my bad review? Its a nice gesture, but a little too late. The damage is done, the color is horrible, the money is down the drain and I wouldn't want another sukis employee to burn off what yellow hair I have left. read more

Yay I found another amazing and professional salon! I came in last minute because my usual hair stylist is currently away and I mixed up my appointment else where. I was disappointed and was in need of a trim! They quickly slotted me in and I was so relieved. Their prices are up there ($60-70 per cut) but you get what you paid for. I had John, who is a master at cutting took his time informing me how I can maintain my hair healthy with hair masks and heat protectant. He patiently explained important hair washing practices and really took his time explaining the needs of my type of thick coloured hair. I left with a nice hair cut, deep conditioning, a booking for 3 months later and life long practices on how to treat my hair. John also called back a week later to ask about my thoughts on my cut and our treatment. Suki was definitely a surprise find and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who could afford a nice vacation for their hair. John showed professionalism, care and skill! read more

If the fact that I have been coming here for over 12 years is not yelp commendation in itself, not sure what more I can say. This is a true full-service professional salon in Vancouver. From the moment you step into the modern, light filled space you could be in any of the top salons around the world. It's crisp, efficient and above all, very good. I can only speak for my stylist, Paul, who has been trained worldwide and a master of colour and cut. We have been through several shades of colours and cuts in my hair and even while I was living overseas (everywhere from The Caribbean to California), I waited months till I was in Vancouver to ensure I got my hair cut from Paul. Who cares if I looked like a wooly mammoth by the time I got back, it had to be Sukis to touch my mop. In 12 years no one has touched my hair colour other than Paul (or myself when I have been stuck in the wilds of Africa or Central America and had to resort to self colouring). I have had other haircuts, emit loud groan here, and I daresay, I would only go to someone else if it were for a very, very, very easy trim. Products used are top of the lines Kerastase which is caviar for your hair. Lots of options past haircuts including treatments, up-dos, blowouts, extensions, and more. Not for the faint of wallet. Expect nothing less than a starting price of $100 (all in) for the basic-basic of female cuts. $250+ for a good colour. Ive spent $350 some days and about cried my mascara off. Why this isn't 4 stars has nothing to do with the hair salon (if I was just rating the salon they would have 5++++ stars). I have been to the spa a couple of times and have to say, not a fan. Too sterile, a bit awkward and the front staff seem pretentious. Caveat, its been 5 years since last spa sojourn but unless they are going to comp me to review it, not planning on heading back. 5 stars will have to wait on that. -----Update----- After seeing my initial experience below, Larry, Suki's colour director contacted me within a couple of days to make things right. He called twice when I missed his first call, and was extremely courteous, apologetic, and understanding. He booked me to come in first thing that coming Saturday. When I arrived at the salon, I was greeted by Larry at the door, and he immediately apologized and thanked me for coming in. He wasted no time asking me details about what happened, and agreed that there was a great deal of warmth at my roots, not at all what I'd asked for. He and his team of skilled apprentices took care of me with warmth, courtesy, and world-class professionalism. The end result was a rich medium-dark ash brown colour to replace the former warm brown that shone orange under lights. Larry gave me a complimentary treatment post-wash that left my hair silky, as well as a mini-kit of D'Cinque treatment products to take home. All in all, Suki's is a salon with extremely high standards, and my negative experience with them before was clearly an aberration from their norm. I've already recommended this salon to my friends who have heard my initial hair woes, and I would definitely use their services again. Thank you so much Larry, you are a gem and paragon of your field, and I now love my hair thanks to you and your lovely assistants. ----Original Post------ My negative experience only concerns a colourist who'd recently moved from Toni & Guy on 4th to join the Suki's team on South Granville. The salon itself is top-notch, with courteous, professional staff. I have been colouring my hair for 3 years, several times with Lana, also from Toni & Guy, who unfortunately did not make the move to Suki's. I couldn't find out where she went, so I booked an appointment with Claire at Suki's after receiving a promotional email about the move, thinking why not. Before we began, we talked over what I wanted and what I was comfortable with. I explained to her clearly that I would like the path of least resistance - colour-wise and damage-wise. I said I'd be comfortable with brown, so long as it is an ash brown, no warmth. (I have naturally black Asian hair, that lifts surprisingly well, which I've worn at varying levels, from dark blonde to medium brown) It tones easily into an ashy brown once lifted. After about an hour and half of applying colour & rather lively conversation - where Claire confided she didn't think ethnic people should really stray far from their natural hair colour (a troubling and rather offensive view, coming from a colourist) - I was relayed to 2 different apprentices who washed and blow dried my hair for another hour and half (!) The colour came out a brassy mahogany around my roots, with the remainder of my hair its original light ashy brown. Claire did not bother to come speak with me at the end of the blow-drying. I was surprised by this. This should be a warning sign for anyone - a colourist that does not check up on her work. Usually a good colourist will dry sections of your hair to see how the colour's developed. I was even more surprised when she charged me $300 for the colour. Let me just put this in perspective: a full colour correction that took the lovely Chris Weber 5 hours at Barbarella (including a cut) was $300 and the hue was perfect. This was a poor slap-dash dye-job (1.5 hours stretched out to 3 unnecessarily) with a clear demarcation line (or banding) between the roots and the remainder of my hair. She only came down to see me when I asked to speak with her about the cost breakdown. She insisted it was a colour correction. It was a root-touch up and toner/semi-permanent application at best. I was too gob-smacked by her bold insistence that I "just needed to come back" when I expressed my discomfort with the colour and price, that I just paid and left. This experience has left a bad taste in my mouth. I regret not speaking with management. If you're looking for a professional colourist who actually respects and listens to her clients, I'd advise against Claire. I'm going to have to hunt down Lana, or go back to Chris at Barbarella. read more

I actually tracked her down at Suki's on Granville because I loved her cuts, style and conversations! The staff at Suki's is awesome too. You never feel rushed and it has a good vibe. So soon after my hairdresser left the country, ive been trying to find a new salon and this is it! I was initially looking for some colour work to be done at the Richmond location and then stumbled upon Amber who did my consultation (she's usually in south Granville) and I am in love with the new colour she did on my hair. She knew exactly how I wanted it to look like and did just that! Amazing at colouring and getting the right tones! Love it! Yes it's pricey but it's almost guaranteed that you'll get what your looking for! Service is also stellar and they also give you a hair treatment after too so your hair doesn't get damaged. I by far had the WORST experience ever at Suki's on Granville! I was visiting a friend from out of town and I walked in needing highlights. They booked me with Michael and I showed him a couple photos of what I was going for. He immediately asked me if I was a celebrity because if I wasn't there would be NO WAY I could afford to maintain the look I was going for (HOW DOES HE KNOW WHAT I CAN and CANNOT AFFORD?!). I was so taken a back I didn't even know how to respond. He was not trying to be cute or funny either he was really rude and dead serious. He then went on to tell me how he was a master stylist with more experience than anyone else at the salon and it would cost me a lot to do what he asked, - This ENTIRE time I was completely silent and just let him keep talking. One insult after another... I didn't know what to do and felt completely uncomfortable. I really wanted to leave but felt too embarrassed. I would not recommend this salon to anyone. Such an insulting experience and really an uninviting place. Besides, its nothing special for costing $300. I've come here twice in the past 2 days - yesterday for a haircut and then again today for a fix. This review is mainly for the second appointment and stylist. The first stylist, Krystle, was really sweet and did her best to give me the cut I was looking for. The overall cut was good but unfortunately the shape wasn't quite right, so I came back today. Krystle wasn't available so I ended up with senior stylist Mona. I explained to Mona what I felt needed changing and she agreed to touch up the ends of my hair to alter the shape a bit. After getting shampoo'd I went back to her chair and she allowed me to be seated completely surrounded by her previous clients hair... You would think that while a different person was shampooing me that she would at least fetch someone to sweep up after her, but no. The boy who washed my hair is also the designated sweeper, apparently. Why couldn't she have had him sweep and shampoo me herself? After carefully combing through it, she started literally hacking away at my hair. I felt like since she had been running behind (we started the appointment 20 minutes late) she was trying to rush because she was really rough and whipped my damp hair around so harshly that it pegged me in the eye and I had to scrunch my eyes closed from the pain. No apology, and didn't ask if I was ok. After she'd finished and asked what I thought, I told her it was way shorter than what I thought we'd agreed upon and that it still wasn't what I'd asked for - just a shorter version of what I had come in to have fixed (I wanted the ends to taper more and for it to be softer and not so blunt). All she offered was "it will grow out" and asked if I had everything I came in with and then she disappeared to the back somewhere. As embarrassing as it is to admit, I think this is the first time I've ever cried from a haircut while still in the salon. After this experience with Mona, I'm not sure I would risk coming back. read more

I am a woman in her mid-50's and while I could be wrong, I question whether ageism was a factor. Perhaps both stylists thought "the old lady" won't mind. I have been going there since I moved to Vancouver, and suddenly I decided to go somewhere closer " Elian Hair Salon in point gray". I went to a hair salon next to my house which they say it is a 5 star but it was awful and my hair is damaged in both color and cut, and they did not even apologies. There is a reason to why I have not been to this place since 2005! I guess, not much has changed. The fact that I am a new mom and I haven't had a hair cut since November 2013, I thought I'd give them another go, as I was in the neighbourhood. What a huge mistake that was. Firstly, the guy who was washing my hair, really had no clue as to what he was doing. He managed to get water all the way down my face, neck and back, which left my top soaking wet! Apparently, this is "supposed" to be the best part of my experience in this salon. Well, not for me. The stylist was quite friendly. We talked about my hair and what I would like, I felt confident that she understood exactly what I was looking for. My hair was long, I mean past my waist long. She showed me how much she would be cutting off, which looked like 3 inches and I was perfectly fine with that amount. Except, she cut off a good 6 inches and gave me very little layers, which has resulted in very heavy blunt ends. Not at all what I was hoping for. There is no texture, or blending, it just looks awful. I didn't say anything while I was there, trying to give her the benefit of the doubt that I'd like it once I washed it and styled it at home. I washed my hair after two days and it is exactly how I thought it would be after leaving the salon, I am so upset. I called Suki's and spoke with the manager, she was very understanding and offered me a full refund and to come back in and have it cut and styled again. I told her that I didn't want to come it because I didn't feel confident. She told me that she had to call head office to issue the refund and she'd call me back once she had the go ahead. When she called me back, she told me, she couldn't give me a refund because their policy states the client to go back in to the salon and have it cut to satisfactory. I told her that I didn't want to come in and that I didn't feel they will be able to resolve the issue. I told her, I suffer from severe anxiety and depression and being in that environment would set off an anxiety attack. She then told me, she can arrange for me to go to a different location but that is all she can offer. I told her that I don't want to go to another location, and that I didn't trust they could do anything for me. I'm disappointed and disgusted at how this salon handled the situation. Why would I want to back to a salon, who have zero empathy for someones illness? Even if its a complimentary hair cut. Why would I want to surround my self around such a heartless company? I told her to keep my money, and thanked her for their poor customer service. I wasn't looking for a refund when I called, I just wanted to let them know to how my experience went while in their salon. She is the one who offered a refund and set a expectation that could not be followed through. As a manager, you would think that she would know her company's policy before she would offer a refund to someone. read more

I will start by saying I did not want to write this review but after waiting 2 weeks I feel that I should. I went to Amber twice to get color and she was brilliant! I loved everything that she did. When I called for another appointment I was told she changed her days off and I wasn't able to get in with my days off. They recommended a Master Colorist to do my hair which I thought was fine. I said that she needed to look in Ambers notes and use the same formula. The receptionist told me that there were no notes in the file but she would make sure that this colorist would talk to Amber before my appt. I arrived for my appt and I said that I loved what Amber did, the colorist said ok told me she would brighten up the front and refresh the rest. I thought it sounded fine especially since she knew the formula. She went to work and after I was rinsed and my hair was blown dry I was horrified. It was exactly what I did NOT want. My hair was much, much lighter when Amber and I had been working to get it darker. I walked out of the salon hoping that I was just over reacting. When my husband saw me he said that you have to go back " its a weird color". I called right away and went in the next day. She could tell when I left the first time that I wasn't happy. She said she had spoken to Amber and that she knows to put in brown tones. She said that its supposed to be left in for 7 minutes but she is going to leave it in for double that time since she knows I want it brown. I was with the assistant the entire time without really checking the color. Again when it was rinsed out I was horrified! Since my hair was so light it grabbed the color and looked almost black. I was told to keep washing my hair and it would come out! It has been 2 weeks and it isn't much better. Oh and by the way, I paid for the entire bad job. 1. Why did the receptionist not communicate my message? 2. Why aren't there notes on what color is used by clients? 3. Why hasn't any one followed up on the result of this service I was clearly unhappy with? 4. Why would you charge me for this? read more
