I went here for the first time this past Friday after some friends have recommended it and couldn't agree more with their recommendation. This bar is a nice getaway from the typical Fanueil Hall/downtown bars (a bunch of Guidos/douchey college kids pushing their way into you to get to the bar/dancefloor). Everyone here was extremely friendly, including the bartenders who took no less than 1 minute to deliver our drinks. Prices are great as well. $3 Narraganset tall-boys and $2.75 mixed drinks. They've got a couple of pool tables and an awesome basketball game in addition to Golden Tee, Big Buck Hunter, etc... If you're looking for a nice change of pace and a solid dive bar, this is your place to go. read more

This is the sort of place where you instinctively mumble "That's OK" when the guy serves your PBR longneck and asks "Did you want a glass?" ST is dirty. So don't order a draft or mixed drink. Stick with mainstream American brews that they likely move in volume. Like you have much choice. And for goodness sakes, don't over tax the help; sit on either end of the long bar where they hang with their high school buddies, Everett Class of '72. The middle third of the bar is a dead zone full of first timers waiting for service. And waiting. If you think this is a Dive Bar you don't get out nearly enough. The Blue Sands on Summer St was Boston's last dive bar. This is simply a bad bar. There is a difference. read more

It is what it is. I worked there tending bar for most of the 90's. It's an all right place for the most part. It's part of a corporation that owns a lot of clone bars if you venture out. One of the best dive bars downtown. Plenty of space and games to play (including buckhunter and pop a shot). Very casual, very fun.

The phone number doesn't work - or they leave it off the hook? I get only busy signal or "call cannot be completed as dialed" - but tried with 1+area code, just area code, even no area code from a landline! I had left something there and couldn't get ahold of them for 2 days to claim it (as I was out of the area). Memories... Like the corner of the men's room where the flies circle and -- is that mold? But I can't deny that the hours I'd spent waiting for my train at Sullivan's Tap didn't have it's moments. That hole in one I got on Golden Tee (was it GT02 or GT03?)... Watching the guys with tickets to the Celtics or Bruins decide it's more fun to drink cheap beer and watch the game on the tv here than go across the street. The bartenders are actually decent enough -- they don't put up with much crap and they really can't since the place does tend to attract some of the more unsavory folk from the neighborhood. I've witnessed many a feisty fellow given the boot by the guy who'll cheer up if you play a Dead song on the juke, or by the guy who looks like Denis Leary's cousin (but don't tell him that). Heck, I don't even know if these guys still tend bar here but I'll go ahead and say that this dive actually does have a certain amount of charm. And two pool tables. read more

I really wanted to like this place, but couldn't. I wanted to try this place out while bar hopping before the Sharks Bruins game last month as I heard it had an old school vibe different to the other bars on Canal St. I liked that they had a pool table and some cool arcade style hoops. However, the bar tender we had just seemed to not want to be there that evening. It was much slower than normal than I understand as there were many no shows to the game that night due to the blizzard, so I expected attentive and quicker service since not many people were there. The bartender had his backed turned and was doing something for 5 minutes before finally turned around to acknowledge us. When I placed my order he would make odd remarks about our drink choices. I couldn't tell if he was joking, but I kept thinking, "Don't you want our money?" I'd give this place a try again, if I go back to Boston, but overall the service was subpar from the bartender. read more

my girlfriend and i went in here on a weekday afternoon and the first thing someone said her as we walked by was "wow, you're like the 11th girl i've ever seen here." this was immediately followed by the (funny) bartender going off about taxes and me drinking a "sully's light" that smelled like hard-boiled eggs. i loved every minute of it. read more

Sully's is complicated...it's a dive bar but due to its location, their clientele is going to be a) commuters waiting for their trains or b) sports fans waiting for the game to begin (and/or just getting out of the game). Hence, nobody really spends much time in Sully's and I wonder if they actually have regulars (other than the regular commuter who regularly gets the 6pm train). Things always seem a little edgy in here; the patrons, the bartenders...like they are sucking one down before they have to run - which is what they are doing. That being said, I like Sully's. It's a long skinny room that goes through the entire block with doors on both ends (although it can creepily feel like a cattle chute when the place is packed and then someone yells "tip off in 5min") and purportedly has the longest bar in Boston (I believe it). It's decorated in a mashup of Bruins/Celtics-iana and dad's den circa 1975 with some remarkable faux-stained glass 70's droplighting way up in it's high ceiling that has never quite recovered from the pre-ban smoking years. Drinks are pricier than you would expect from a joint like this probably due to the captive audience factor and...well...whaddaya gonna do? Tip for the wise: the bar and bartenders are arranged in approx four 20ft. zones which they cannot and will not cross so...if you see a juicy section of empty bar with no obvious bartender and sit there expecting service...you'll have a long wait. And they'll let you sit there too. Also, another tip (and this might just be hearsay): supposedly there are a couple of "regulars" that hustle pool in the back from drunken sports fans that they prob won't see again. But..again, could just be a rumour. So...I wouldn't go out of my way to go to Sully's but I have stopped in many a night on the way to the commuter rail, and, in my book, it's still a cut above the selection of overpriced fake Irish pubs and sports bars that surround North Station/TD BankNorthGarden. read more

I used to love this place. The service used to be fine, they used to have beer specials, and the staff used to actually enjoy women coming in. But the vibe has COMPLETELY changed.Me and 2 girlfriends went in to play pool and play some music on the jukebox. We are completely harmless and were not at all hurting the bar. They treated us horribly, gave us mean stares throughout the night, and at the end of the night, Patrick Lutz (the bartender) started YELLING at us (3 women!) telling us that we were idiots and that we should get out of the bar. Completely inappropriate behavior. They seem to hate women, aka are sexist, and hate people who have fun. It seems like the Sully's Tap staff hates people who want to actually pay them money for beer and are trying to scare visitors away by not giving their change back, by only letting men in, and by being douche bags in general. Please do not go in this establishment because they do not deserve paying customers with the way they treat them. read more

This bar varies depending on what time and day you go there, but it gets 5 stars for authentic diave bar category. It's best after work and can be a nice place to stop for a few cold ones on a Sunday afternoon while venturing back from a walk around the North End. It ain't nothing special, but it can be fun to people watch at the place. read more

I took my 21 autist son in after a Celtics game. A bartender got upset with him because he was charging is phone near the pool table. He said he was in the way of the men playing pool. When a asked him why he was so upset he said he said he wasn,t mad and not an asshole and told us to go somewhere else. Obviously their not sensitive to people with special needs. A bar in Boston that still has character. Dive bar, and always has been. Don't go here looking for a "scene." Cheap drinks, there are tvs, video games and pool if you're into that. Best times are before and after a game or event... especially after they stop serving inside the Garden. read more

This place is what you expect - it's a sports dive bar. People were nice and down to earth, we were served very quickly, there was pool, and overall a general good time to be had. If dive bars had a hall of fame,this place would one of the first entrants.I've been going there for over ten years and I'm never disappointed.Then again I have this thing for bars that look like you have been put in a time machine and sent back to the 70's and 80's.No B.S. old sage bartenders,coin operated pool tables,pin ball machines,juke box,etc.This is what I call a "primer" bar.You get "primed"up before the game and by the time you get to the Garden,you are "socially lubricated".Most nights I come here before and after the game.It's better than the Cask"n"Flagon because the bouncers aren't complete "D.B.s".Just no an no frills,old time Boston bar.One tip:The bathrooms aren't the place to have modesty.If you are a first timer,you will see what I mean. read more

Dive bars are my absolute favorite, dirty bars are not. I went here before a celtics game and had 2 blue moons on tap. A half hour later, I was getting sick in the bathroom. I had to leave the game early because I couldn't stop puking. I have no doubt in my mind it was from the dirty tap lines. Note to self- bottled beer only at dive bars. read more

This bar should be ashamed how they handle their customers. After waiting in the cold to get in after a Bruins game, I Was told they are full to capacity by the doorman, which by law i understand they can not have too many people inside, so I waited for people to leave. 4 of the doormans friends showed up and he let them in no problem so i asked why we cant go in. I was told this is a regulars bar and that friends and regulars get first priority. This bar is a joke, I recommend spending your money elsewhere, where you can be valued as a customer. read more

So. the general bar-tender/bar-manager is awesome, and because of him, I think this place has a lot of potential. However, I was really disappointed to be denied entrance to the bar after the Celtics game tonight. I was a bit giddy. Yes, I had had a couple of drinks, but I had also just sat in the best seats I've ever been in at a live game and the C's had just won, so I had many reasons to be giddy besides alcohol. I showed up to Sully's Tap after the game to hang out with my husband (not even to drink) and I was denied access to the bar. I have never ever been denied access ANYWHERE!!!! AND, I wasn't even drunk, just giddy with the excitement of the game. I'm not even sure what I said that got me denied. Anyway, I used to think it was a great bar, but I will definitely never ever return. They just lost mine and my husband's business, two people who really appreciated this bar. It's too bad, they shoudl think about the people they have working at the door. read more
