They would not even show us any settings, saying it would be around $2k. They suggested coming back in 3 weeks because of the pinched skin. They said my ring size would be different than it has been for 38 years, even though my ring still fit perfectly. Apparently they assumed we were bums and had no money. We were literally given the brush off! My husband recently purchased a pair of earrings for me there and has made several purchases over the years. We went to another local jeweler, we were greeted with a smile, they gave us all our options, showed us new settings. Examined the broken ring closely and said it not only needed a shank but the prongs were worn. We got a quote of almost half of your quote, to do a more extensive repair.
